Glad you're ok. Maybe you can leave "your mark" on his insurance too. I think there should be a law that requires idiots to be sued when they cause a motorcycle crash.

Premium Vs. Regular gas - Interesting Investigative report
yamagrl replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
When I fell in love with the Venture and decided to do my own maintenance and wrenching I have had to research e-e-everything and I have done a bu-u-unch of research. Early on I wondered if premium fuel would be better. What I learned is that octane raises the flashpoint of the fuel which renders is harder to ignite, thereby preventing pre-ignition in the combustion chamber due the extreme temperatures created during the compression stroke in engines with a high compression ratio. This is what is commonly referred to as engine knock and more accurately called "dieseling". It also helps the high compression and higher ignition advance curve to work in concert resulting in hp/torque increase in high-performance engines reminiscent of the muscle cars from the 60s and 70s. In engines with a lower, more moderate compression it is harder for higher octane fuel to combust. With modern electronic ignition and computer controlled fuel injection the modern engine is capable and designed to overcome the variances in fuel quality and additives. In carbureted engines with a moderate combustion ratio such as in the Venture that is not the case. I use regular. Are there any chemical or mechanical engineers that can add to this? -
A friend of mine runs 10 wt non detergent. He got it at O'Riley's. I think they ordered it from their warehouse. He did his forks in our shop last month. The empty Qt bottle may still be out there. If not and anyone wants to know I'll contact him.

Pilot screw adjustment/running lean

I like this for tuning etc. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-Tachometer-meter-TACH-DWELL-Tester-Multimeter-Ship-from-USA-/271112134682?hash=item3f1f8ae01a&item=271112134682&vxp=mtr You are only reading #2 cylinder (the grey wire from the tci on 1st Gens) The same position should work on 2nd gen. So you will set it to the 1cyl setting http://i.ebayimg.com/images/a/T2eC16hHJIIE9qTYMbO1BQtSEPqySw~~/s-l400.jpg -

Here's a 20% off coupon and other coupons too. That link works pretty much all of the time. So bookmark it if you don't already have it. http://www.harborfreight.com/digitalsavings.html -
We recently rebuilt the forks on one of our friend's Vstar 650 on our HF table lift. We placed an m/c scissor jack under the engine area, secured the rear to the lift and elevated the front sufficient enough to remove the front wheel. It also helps to strap the handle bars to prevent the forks, etc. from moving back and forth. ¡No problema! As we speak, Big Red is on the lift awaiting his turn for new fork seals and the other replaceable fork parts, blue dots, rotors, ss lines. I'll do Big Red on the centerstand. So, I too have been researching, etc. All of the parts and components have arrived. I'm now just waiting for the time. Fortunately, we have more motorcycles than riders so I've been riding our 03 Roadie. Here's a post on the read only by Freebird about rebuilding the forks on the bike. It's a pretty good post. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?496-Fork-Seal-Replacement Here's another good one by MiCarl http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?101822-Rebuilding-Forks Here's a two-part Youtube video. It's pretty good, too. Good luck. Heather

Windows 10 Upgrade Review, Tips, Tricks, and Traps

It's hard to speculate where your contacts are but it's quite possible they may not have been transferred or they may be there somewhere. If you still have your old computer go fire it up and then open the program where your contacts are located. Somewhere in there you will find an option to "Export" contacts. This is a good place to start. Export them and save the file to a jump drive or save the file to the desktop or somewhere that you can easily find it and then copy the exported contacts file to a jump drive. Then put the jump drive in the new computer, open your email program, find the "Import Contacts" option and go from there. Export and import functions are in most all email programs but may be different from program to program. You can probably email the exported contacts file to yourself or if you use some type of cloud storage like One Drive, Google Drive, Icloud, Dropbox, etc. you can save it there and not need to use a jump drive. -
Purolator Oil Filters - 14610 & 14612
yamagrl replied to Du-Rron's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Here is some interesting oil filter info. Yamaha Royal Star, Roadstar and some others use spin-on type 5 at the bottom. Cross reference for most motorcycles California Scientific http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/FilterXRef.html Cutaway http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/FilterStudy.html -
You should be able to match them up a good hardware store.

Hi Art. Say "Hi" to Sherrie for me. Why don't you just visit the tire manufacturer's website and ask them. Then take that info to the shop. Heather

Windows 10 Upgrade Review, Tips, Tricks, and Traps

For most people (other than advanced users) I would recommend to use the "Get going fast" option. I have upgraded several computers of three different brands and all were seamless, fast and amazingly easy. So don't be intimidated by the Win10 upgrade. Of course, W10 is going to set it's preferred apps and programs but those are simple settings to assign your preferred apps. And it also tries to gather a bunch of information and usage tracking but this is also easy to configure. W10 free upgrade allows reverting back to your previous version for 30 days. I presume that it creates an image but I'm not sure. I does create a windows_old. Also, I copied the download file to a jump drive so that I do not have to download it again. It is easy to find but right now I'm on my tablet. Silver, the free upgrade download is likely already on your work computers so just save the file and you can run it later. -
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!
