Tuning the progressive springs.
yamagrl replied to Flyinfool's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Jeff, Squidley and I did mine last fall at his house during SETexas Fall MD. I used only the top washer (I think it's item 14 in your picture above) and 1 inch of preload only. We did not reinstall the aluminum spacer with the Oring. No air. Even with this small amount of preload it was IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL at low/creeping speeds. When I got back home I immediately replaced the 1 inch preload with 1/2 inch preload that I cut from the same diameter pvc pipe. I found it easier to cut the pvc on a chop/miter saw than to fool around trying to cut an already small piece in half. I was not worried about having too little preload because Venturous Randy had stated that he used Zero preload with his progressives because of some condition he referred to as being "inseam challenged". Big Red rides perfectly and has never bottomed out. I'm about 5-10 and approaching 180. (Don't ever tell anyone I said that...I'll deny every word of it!). As we speak, Big Red is in my shop for fork seals, Mk2 lower fork tubes, blue-dots, de-link, SS lines. I have all of the parts, etc., just awaiting freetime. Get rid of the aluminum spacer and shorten the preload. You'll be just fine and you'll love the ride. Another benefit to going to the opposite extreme is that you will have a high and a low standard of comparison. -

That's a great post but it's not the one I'm looking for. I will book mark this thread. Thanks Jeff The one one I'm searching is very recent...last few weeks. I do not recall it being a lengthy thread. It said something like "I finally got all of the lights changed out to leds" and he listed all of the lights and their costs and also the reduction in Wattage.
-
Within the last few weeks someone posted a complete list of LED replacement bulbs for all lights on the 1st Gen including resistors/load equalizers and the costs. For the life of me I cannot locate that thread. If anyone recalls that thread or hopefully the original poster please point me in that direction.

Don't need to do anything to it. Just stick it in a 17mm socket and go for it.

84 VR clutch issues

I prefer to reverse bleed. Here is a link. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?118688-Bad-clutch-master-cylinder-and-slave-cylinder&p=964314#post964314 -
Sometimes independent MC shops have someone that is very knowledgeable about what is available aftermarket. At Precision Tune in Milton Fl they are pretty sharp and also offer significant discounts to be competitive with online suppliers. I'm sure there's one like them pretty close to you. It might be worth giving them a shot.

We used Memphis Shades Batwing on our 2003 Roadstar 1600 Classic and also on our 2007 Vstar 1100 Classic and they work great. They also offer a bunch of accessories for their fairings but I'm not sure about radio installation. http://www.memphisshades.com/metric-shades/metric-fairings/metric-batwing-fairing

Bookmarking sure helps. I used to write notes to myself and then forget what I wrote it on. Then I'd end up finding it later and wonder what it was about!

Lately there has been a few mentions of the Shotgun Method of carb cleaning. While looking through my bookmarks (yeah Puc, more bookmarks) I ran across this link. http://vmax.lvlhead.com/tips/shotgun.htm *** A "sticky thread" might be on order.
-
Actually Puc, what happened is that I read and bookmarked that thread when it first rolled out... and it sounded logical and had a great pic, to boot. I never saw Prairiehammer's correction in the subsequent post. When I read the post on the day it started I said to myself "Hedder, your gunna need that sometime. Better bookmark it." (I bookmark most anything I might want to come back to. So today when I saw Lenk42602's question I simply went to my Google Chrome Bookmarks and retrieved the link. Unwittingly putting out misinformation. Thanks again YG

I stand corrected. I went back and read farther down and Prairiehammer cleared that up about that ping mark in post 7. Apparently it indicates the stator issue has been corrected.

With only 36k it probably has not been done. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?117969-Good-price-for-1984-Venture&highlight=gear

Now I thought you were talking about a generator that makes petrol out of rubbish. That would be the ticket, Mate.

Way Cool! This guy probably has a few side covers for your son's bike. He is located in Brewton, AL, about 45 minutes from me. He has Over 3000 bikes, hundreds of 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s Yammis, Kawasukis, Hondas. Only 1 or 2 Mk2s, no Mk1s though. At least the last time I was there about a year ago. Don, PM me you need help on this end. Heather Click the Pic

Use a coupler for metric all-thread. I got it at the hardware store. Just wrap it with electrical tape so it doesn't slip out of the socket. $2.00

Welcome aboard. You have come to the right place for everything about the Yamaha Venture. Everyone here is very helpful. I even did an online search to see what your options might be. This is what I found and I think they just might help to flat foot the bike. They can be found in "his and hers" What color is your bike? Heather

...or maybe his own can of whoopass!
