  1. '88 VR - slow oil seepage at this bolt head. Never been removed and still tight. What is the fix? -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  2. Yes, it is a carb issue. Likely blocked pilot (idle) circuits that are very small, small enough that Seafoam will not clear the passageways. I've used small dia. copper wire plus spray carb cleaner to clean the openings. These circuits affect throttle response from startup, idle, and thru mid-range. -Pete, in Tacoma Wa USA
  3. Missing....and 'clicking' sound that is synchronous? Sounds like an ignition short circuit for LF cylinder. Sparking to frame maybe....... -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  4. Got down on the cold floor and took this pic for you. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  5. I had a 1979 XS1100 for years, then switched to the Venture and never looked back. Oh, and you are late to the party, but better late than never. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  6. The 4 tubes are indeed vents. Originally came with rubber hoses routing to the rear and downward along the frame. Also serve as overflow tubes for when the inlet valve sticks open. The large tube on the 'twinke' is crankcase vent, usually routed up to the air cleaner housing, but that results in condensed oil buildup and dripping down on the engine. Some of us have rerouted the vent tube down opening to the underside of the frame....with condensate dripping on the ground. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  7. 150 lumens is a dim bulb!!. Look for something with more than 1200 lumens -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

  10. Rust and corrosion are the enemy, so if the piston is rusted and/or the cylinder is corroded, replace with new. Otherwise if spotlessly clean, simply replace the seal and reassemble. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  11. In my city, a vehicle must be moving in excess of 11mph for the red light camera to function. One could literally creep into the intersection on a red light and not have it flash -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  12. Whose lifetime? -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  13. Kinda looks like an enclosed motorcycle. BTW, I've had a convertible in one form or another for at least 30 years. Enjoy them in their own right. The ultimate decadence is top down on a really warm day with the AC on full arctic setting. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  14. I'm recommending the removal of the Pinwall Cyle Parts link from the website as they have proven themselves to be disreputable. I've done good business with them several times, but when I had an issue with them misrepresenting a used part, and my submitting a claim with pics to e-bay that was decided in my favor, Pinwall Cycle Parts blocked me from any new purchases, and this despite Pinwall giving me excellent feedback every time. Truly bad form on their part. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  15. Soak it with SEAFOAM or penetrating oil, then whack it with a hammer and it will loosen. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
  16. We already knew Yamaha was most reliable...........that's why we have one (or more). -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

  19. Gonna be working on water pump on my '88VR XVZ1300DU that should have the metal impeller. QUESTION: Is it more practical to disassemble the pump first to determine what parts are actually required, OR, get new parts before taking it apart? Now after studying the parts list I find: 11H-12438-00-00 SEAL, MECHANICAL $28.74 1 PART OBSOLETE So now what, is there a substitute? -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

  24. You could bypass the fuel system for a short start test by using starting fluid sprayed into the airbox. Regarding using a jump start, DO NOT JUMP START FROM A RUNNING VEHICLE. Jump start from a known good battery only. Damage to the voltage regulator can occur if jump started from a running car/truck. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
