  1. I believe the Pearl white ones go the fastest...
  2. Sweet! I totally want one for my pup... but as it is the wife and I are already exceeding yam's weight limit for our RSTD. I'm not sure pulling a 230lb trailer (plus pup) after were already exceeding by about 60 lbs is a good thing.
  3. So what kind of oil would you suggest for an 06 RSTD? I've read a few things about some syn oil being good at reducing the wine/chip a little and others increasing the whine/chirp. Thanks in advance.
  4. Yeah that's pretty much what I was thinking. In the same bag with the insurance papers and such. That "hope I never have to go into it" zip-lock bag.
  5. According to the website they "print on demand" but if the original ones were missing things... Oh that was one of the other reasons that I wanted the hard copy was the PDF seemed to have some incorrect information in it. Like the proper shifting points. If I remember correctly the PDF said something like the proper shifting points were from first to second @ 13 mph, from second to third @ 13 mph, from third to fourth @13 mph, etc.. However, thumbing through the manual that may have been downshift points and 16 mph. I also see that the fork PSI info in the manual matches the PDF. Nothing appears to be missing from the manual but it appears that I could have just printed the free PDF, ended up with the same basic thing, and saved myself $30.
  6. So when I bought my bike from the dealership (2006 RSTD) it didn't have an owners manual. For my old Honda, the owners manual was a little book about 5" wide, 3" tall and about an inch thick. It fit on one of the side covers for the bike. This way if you were ever on the road and had a minor service issue, you could refer to the book. I never needed it, but like wearing an armored jacket and a helmet, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Anyway, I ordered the owners manual from Yamaha's site because I was expecting something about the same size that would slip right into one of the little pockets in the hard bags. I figured that it was worth the $$ to have the right sized manual that fit into the pocket (where I assumed the manual went) rather than print out the Owners Manual PDF that I could get for free online from Yamaha. The Owners Manual showed up today and I'm a little disappointed. Rather than being the little small booklet that would slip right into the pocket, I've got a book that's 8.5" wide by 6" tall and not quite a quarter of an inch thick. It won't fit into what I thought was the "manual pocket" and now I'm kind of bummed that I spent $30 on it.
  7. When I looked at IKEA yesterday, they said the product isn't available online. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70026822/ http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60114112/
  8. Ok, so I'm giving up on having anything for this weekend. I've seen a few sites recommended and I've looked at a bunch of them. They all seem to come up pretty similar. ~$70-80 for the seat and closer to $120 if you want to cover the drivers seat and pillion (which I do). So now I guess new question. Which has the best fit and does it matter? Here are the places I've looked at that I remember (any other suggestions welcome) http://sheepskinfactory.com http://www.blacksheeptrading.com http://www.alaskaleatheronline.com http://www.wildthingsfur.com http://www.hartcoseats.com http://www.aerostich.com http://www.sheepyhollow.com Basically if I'm going to be dropping $120 on a seat cover I want to be really satisfied that I purchased the right thing. Suggestions?
  9. I went out tonight to try and find a lambskin or sheepskin car seat cover that I could cut down. Believe it or not, I could not find one! The best I could come up with was a seat cover that had a center strip that was actual sheepskin (not big enough to cover the cycle seat though) and the rest was synthetic. So I guess I'll just shop around at some of the links that I've seen suggested in other posts and not have any cushy for my tushy this weekend. Such is life. Thanks for all the advice guys!
  10. Yeah, yeah... just call me the cat curiosity killed ... or in this case scarred for life.
  11. Ok, I can never un-see that now...
  12. Ok, now I'm curious and must investigate the back story about the pond monsters!
  13. I know I'm just the new guy and all so I'm going to try real hard not to ruffle any more feathers, but there seems to be a bit of a hornets nest that was kicked here so I don't know if it's possible not too. My $.02 worth, I think it's unwise to attack the dude. Yes, it's only $12/year. Seems like a reasonable price to pay. I've only been a member for 2 days but have already made a friend and been invited (repeatedly) to the maintenance day that's near me (which unfortunately I can't make). I've been offered PDF's of the service manual saving me from having to buy one and aside from this thread which seems to have gotten a little hostel, seems like a friendly group of guys. If Don makes $1.56/year, $15.60/year, $156/year off the site, great for him. If he makes $156,000 off the site, even better for him. Now that being said, and this is the part where feathers are gonna get ruffled, when I make a donation to UNICEF, ASPCA, United Way or any other charitable organization, I like to know where my money is going (IE if 80% of my donation is going to overhead costs while only 20% is going to the actual cause, I may choose to donate my money elsewhere). When I pay membership dues for any organization, I like to know where my money is going. When I buy something from a business, I know the money is going to buy somewhere between groceries and a 2nd house in the Bahamas for the owner of that business. I don't think that the OP wants to see "the books" or anything but is just kind of curious to know where the money goes, IE into Don's pocket, into a charitable fund for members down on their luck, into meet & greet or maintenance days, or whatever else. I apologize in advance if I've ruffled any more feathers.
  14. No worries! I think I'm liking the "cut the car seat cover down" idea.
  15. Heading over to Madison, WI. It's about a 2.5 hr ride, which will be the longest ride either of us have done to date. Before I got the 2006 RSTD, I had a Honda Shadow. Wasn't big enough to ride the wife and I so I never really went anywhere on it. Just a little tooling around town to to work and back (about 40 miles each way). I think the longest ride I did was to Janesville which is around 90 minutes or so. We both want to up our riding stamina and the trip to Madison this weekend will be a big step. I'd just like to make sure we are both comfortable.
  16. Pff, I wish. I've really yet to run across one of those! Altho, the wife did work at Bed, Bath, and Beyond last year. She was occasionally on the register, so then it was the cute checkout gal!
  17. Hmmm, the rubber waffle sheet (as you put it) glued to the bottom of the cover (I don't want to glue it to the seat) might just be the combo I need. Looks like I've got to go to Farm & Fleet! (if you knew me, you'd know that I've got a relationship with F&F, while not so bad this summer, last summer I didn't go 3 days without having to get something there)
  18. Do'h! Just called over to Don & Roy's as well. They don't have anything in the area of seat covers either. I may just take the suggestion of the car seat cover cut down to size. I'm a little bit worried about if that would be slippery though.
  19. Sportland is where I bought the bike from. Was thinkin about stopping there on the way home to see what they had off the shelf. Yes I know Madison is 1/2 way but my family would be cranky if I skipped out. Next time when nothing conflicts! ****EDIT***** Just called over to sportland. They don't carry anything in a generic or specific seat cover for the Yamaha. Special order only according to Jamie.
  20. I'm familiar with that IKEA. I'm about 90 minutes or so north of it so it's not at all on the way. I think I may run out to the local Yamaha stealership at lunch to see what they have for sale off the shelf.
  21. Oh, I'd totally not thought of that idea!
  22. Sadly no. I've got to head out to Madison for a family reunion. I'd love to have been able to make the meetup though.
  23. Wife and I are going out of town this weekend for our longest ride yet. I think I'd like to at least get myself a lambskin or sheepskin seat cover for the ride. It's kind of late in the week though. So what would you folks suggest for a 2006 RSTD that I may be able to have shipped to me by Friday? (anything on amazon would be preferred because I've got an amazon prime membership so get free 2 day shipping) Thanks!
  24. Oh, ok. Then I won't worry so much about it. Thanks!
  25. The "non DOT approved" thing kind of worrys me? Should it?
