  1. Some cruise lines allow you to bring a couple bottles of wine at origin, but there is a corking fee if opened by staff in restaurant. Princess serves free champagne at Captain's Night, and Bananas Foster is good with extra rum. (Bananas, vanilla ice cream, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, dark rum, banana liqueur)
  2. Yes, cost of ocean cruise has many components. There is cost of flight to cruise origin, ground transfers, cruise itself (double occupancy/type of cabin), taxes and port fees, specialty dining fees, drink packages, cancellation insurance, land excursions, tips of $13.50/$14.50 per person per day, tips for bar services, etc. It all adds up. There are usually promotions offering deals on several components.
  3. Pics from Alaska Inside Passage cruises.
  4. We've been to Alaska four times. First time on land tour, second and third times on cruises of Inside Passage and fourth time combo land tour/Inside Passage cruise with Holland America. Combo package allows you to experience the most. Both land tour and cruise provide opportunities to see many things. Denali National Park and train ride from Fairbanks to Anchorage are very nice. You can take a plane ride to the Artic Circle or take helicopter ride to Denali (Mt. McKinley). Some excursions must be booked well ahead and can be pricey. Cruise through the Inside Passage is very nice. Glacier Bay National Park is breathtaking. You can book excursions to go watch bears, go view whales, go fishing for salmon/halibut or go on a crabbing boat. It's all a lot of fun. Best time to go is near the summer solstice, June 21. You can go directly through Princess or Holland America for all arrangements, like air, transfers and tour/cruise. Our Holland America tour/cruise was booked through Burkhalter Travel, http://www.burkhaltertravel.com. We also cruised the Inside Passage with Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, both very nice.

  6. Triking does not necessarily follow the progression of aging. Folks of all ages buy trikes for various reasons. Some like the looks, safety, comfort, reliability, being with other trikers, etc. As for the four-wheel option, everyone has a car(s), so that option is always there. Folks can ride two wheels until they are no longer fit and go directly to four wheels. Trikes are not wheel chairs for those who cannot ride two wheels. Instead, trikes are an alternative mode of travel and provide association with other bikers, that is not possible with four wheels. In my case, bought new RSV when I retired in 2010. This was my first touring bike, and found it to be quite heavy. I was very fit, and was able to renovate our home and landscape our yard. However, my wife was concerned about my lack of confidence, and so was I. Chose to trike our RSV, and never regretted it. Have met many folks and had many adventures on my trike. Starting at 62, was fit to make many trips around the country, and at 71, dream of more adventures. Traveled all over the western US and Canada on four wheels, but it is not the same as being on my trike and socializing with fellow bikers. More and more folks are buying RV's with toy haulers and are traveling the country. We have no place to store a RV, nor are we ready to sell our home to go full-time RV. Prefer to ride my trike, most times solo. My trike has brought me so much happiness and so many friends. Cannot imagine retirement without these experiences! Best of all, my journey continues! P.S. I have good knees.
  7. If your wife rides with you, you won't like a lighter bike. Don't wait until you dump your bike before you to decide to trike. Most likely cheaper to buy a used trike rather than convert. Working out is always a good thing to do. Good luck with your decisions.
  8. So wife is nervous about getting on Gen 3, but not riding at 75-85 mph? My wife would be breaking my ribs.
  9. Personally, I love secure feeling of a trike. Three wheels have saved my tail several times. Triked my '09 RSV in 2010 with only 100 miles. Since then, have driven 50K+ miles in 48 states with minor issues. Most of the time I travel alone, and trike has never left me on the side of the road. Yes, ride is different. Even with EZ-steer, you develop Popeye arms on twisties. Actually, I don't mind this workout. RSV looses top speed and gas mileage when it is triked. Can travel 80 mph, but fuel economy suffers. Try to stay at 65 mph on highways. Doing so, get 30 mpg. Trike really feels great on open road. 18-wheelers and cross winds don't blow me off the road. Have Michelin Commander II rear tire in front and Michelin 80,000 mile car tires from Costco in back. Tires are little concern and never had a flat. Sometimes miss sportier ride, but at 71, appreciate comfort of my trike.
  10. So sorry for your loss... Condolences to you and family. My dad was part of that generation, but he's been gone 38 years. Where does time go?
  11. My Battery Tender Plus seems to do the trick. Good to be a lucky guy!
  12. " Your new AGM battery, unless factory activated, will need a battery charger with an AGM setting on it, or one capable of properly "Activating" an AGM battery." Really! Bought AGM battery from Walmart years ago, added acid and used my battery tender to charge it. Never had problems.
  13. Use rear tires on the front of my RSV trike, but it is a different animal. Trike doesn't lean. Have mounted tires forward and reverse with no noticeable difference.
  14. About 40K miles ago, I did an oil change and put recommended amount of Seafoam in crankcase. Drove 20 miles and did another oil change. Never noticed any ill effects. Clutch still works fine. In fact, made 9,200 mile trip around the country since then.
  15. Puc, Observing a lot of the trees are already bare. Same is happening here. Foliage is slowly dropping before it changes color. Hope you are successful in your search.
  16. Fixed my neighbor's snow blower last year with Seafoam. Wouldn't start that night, no matter how much we pulled. However, it ran fine after it sat for a while. Sounded great!
  17. What beautiful memories, Puc. Brings tears to my eyes. So happy for you folks!
  18. Puc, We are cut from the same piece of cloth. Keep them coming, brother!
  19. Puc, Enjoyed watching all your videos. You certainly are a great tour guide. Love Trooper! Really fits the bill. Hope Trooper brings you many happy adventures.
  20. Congratulations on your retirement! Change is usually difficult, but you will adjust. There is much enjoyment to be had after employment. Wish you much happiness!
