  1. That is coming along beautifully. RR
  2. Flyinfool is right. The minute you drive it off the lot, it is essentially a 10 yo used bike. Looking up KBB: $5700 retail. Trade in $3585. Offer them $5000 with new tires and an extra warranty thrown in or $4000 as it sits. If they say no, tell them you will be back next year (after they paid taxes on it again) with an offer of $4500/3500. Talk with the General Manager not a sales guy. The sales guy won't make any money on the sale. The GM just wants it off their floor. RR
  3. This is not uncommon. In other instances I've seen (Rocky Mountain ATV) it has to do with their agreement with a Canadian distributor. RR
  4. That's a GoPro mount. I have one on a helmet. RR
  5. Have you, perhaps, removed the cassette deck on your bike? If so, did you just cut the cable off? I helped another VR member several years ago that did this and a ground was making contact and causing the bike to start when the key was turned on. RR
  6. Dave, Open the back of the fuel pump yourself. Remove the right side panel under the seat and it will be staring you in the face. Black cover with a screw holding it on. Remove this black cover and look closely at the points at the back of the pump. If the pump is failing, this is what is usually the problem. If there is pitting/burned areas on the contacts, you can replace them for about $30ish. Search VR for the source. There are also pictures on here of what the contacts should look like and how to get to them. Look at this thread: https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?87556-fuel-pump&highlight=fuel%20pump RR
  7. Congratulations on your promotions. Being under a microscope (or at least having greater visibility) is always nerve-wracking, but it is the price of being higher in an organization. Heard an interesting phrase the other day - The higher up the pole a monkey climbs, the more visible his ass. Yes, you will occasionally fail. So does your boss and his boss. Just be truthful as to what happened, don't cover anything up, and don't ever blame an underling (nor take their credit when deserved). What type of work? RR
  8. With the extra $$ you could pick up a nice BMW. RR
  9. Is there a spec on how much fuel is supposed to be in the bowl? This seems simple but I am missing how this actually measures the float height. RR
  10. Interesting setup, but what am I looking at? Feeding fuel under pressure with the fire extinguisher (very cool modification) does what over having a hanging fuel bottle? Once you see the float level needs adjusted, do you need to open up the bowl, make the adjustment, then replace the bowl? Fill in some details please. Thanks, RR
  11. Africa Twin for the Win??? http://www.partireper.it/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/gionata-nencini-partireper-honda-transalp-anteprima-esclusiva-nuova-honda-africa-twin-crf1000l-adventure-equipaggiata-per-viaggio2.jpg
  12. Pinwall would probably be your best bet for a replacement.RR
  13. This is very curious. There is no way the bolt couldn't have been there at some time. Torquing that bolt on is what forces the flywheel up onto the tapered shaft. The flats on the flywheel center allow you to hold the flywheel/crank when you tighten the center bolt. That bolt gets tightened to about 140 ftlbs (just pulled this off the top of my head, don't hold me to the number). If that bolt backed out, there's no place for it to go without destroying the stator. Very odd. There also appears to be some light corrosion on the flywheel and on the housing. I see here this could have occurred since you've had the engine open for a while. This is a wet area and everything should be very clean. Really looking forward to hearing what the dealer says about this. RR
  14. For a tall man bike, you don't want to leave out the BMW R1200GS Adventure (with lowering blocks for the pegs). RR
  15. A measly 6'4" here and have owned and ridden both the 1st and 2nd Gen. 1st Gen is a great bike but is more upright. It has your feet under your hips which makes a very comfortable posture for long distances - if your knees can handle the bend. Highway pegs help. The 2nd Gen has your feet out in front an puts a little more pressure on your tailbone. However, there is a lot of room to move around and extend your legs. Adding a backrest, offset longhorn highway pegs, and a high quality seat makes the 2nd Gen a true mile muncher for taller folks. RR
  16. IIRC, there is a peen mark somewhere if the second gear has been done by a Yamaha dealer. Someone else can chime in with a correction and/or clarification if I am off my rocker. RR
  17. OOOhhh, nice. 600CC engine IIRC. Shares this engine with a few other models so engine/driveline parts should be fairly easy to source. Bodywork? That will be a little more difficult to find stateside. Seen some parts for sale on ADVRider for the old TransAlps. Good find. Had I found that, it would be in my shop, for sure. RR
  18. May have to see if my son bought it. He cruises CL often looking for deals. Thanks for letting me know. RR
  19. Don't know if you still need someone to look at the Venture. If you do, my son is in Phoenix (Goldenrider on here) and can likely take a look. He is a pretty good wrench and could likely see if it is in decent shape. He's not on here a lot, so best to call him (number in his profile). Let me know and I will ping him to expect your call. RR
  20. This is an 'air in line' / master cylinder / slave cylinder issue. Will not be fixed with a Barnett or spring upgrade. The Barnett / spring upgrade will help if it will not fully engage. Does not help if the clutch will not disengage. Condor is the man! RR
  21. Are you sure it isn't Thumper instead of Bambi? We had to put tight chicken wire for the bottom 2 feet to keep the rabbits out. Regular fencing above that. RR
  22. I've got a couple of sets around that I would be willing to provide. Chatterbox and J&M probably. What type of helmet? Full face? 3/4 face? Brain bucket? RR
  23. As mentioned, the speakers in the SENA headsets are kind of weak (doesn't matter if you are using earbuds). They are difficult to hear if you are wearing earplugs, and the fidelity is very limited. Just saw a video of a replacement speaker system for the SENA. Basically, you buy a fairly inexpensive pair of Panasonic over the ear headphones and pull the speakers out of it. Un-solder the speakers from the SENA and solder in the Panasonics. That may be a winter 2018/19 project. RR
  24. It works!! It lasts longer than a set of tires. RR
  25. Freebird, I have the Sena 20S in my helmet. It comes with speakers to install, but also has a port for earbuds. Speakers are kind of weak, but the battery life is fairly good and the BT connectivity has been flawless. Will work while charging which is important for the IB runs. As far as I know, it only works within a helmet (which you should wear anyway ). RR
