  1. I thought I did good to keep you out of it...I knew good and well this was caused by my upbringing but thought to respect my elders (much more elder!)...guess I blew that one!
  2. Also, I might suggest you not get too tied to looking at ONLY the ipad. There have been a few new tablets come out lately that are MUCH cheaper than the ipad. One is the Android based Archos 5. I haven't used it but it is an Android system and I really like my Android phone. Much more open than Apple stuff, so you can put more files and formats on it. Here's one on Amazon right now for $250 for a 500gb. That's a 1/4 of the apple for 10x the storage! 3. I've got the 8g wifi only version. I really like it but it depends on what she's going to do with it. If she is only going to be reading books, I think the ereader would be a much better choice for you. The reason I say this is that the iPad is more like a mini laptop...the screen is backlit, so eyes tend to get a little more tired and the battery runs down much faster. If you are using it all day, the battery will last about 8-12 hours...depending on brightness, etc. Most ebooks will last you at least several WEEKS. This makes a big difference when traveling. The advantage of the ipad is that it can also double for you computer, so when you are traveling, it's great to check the email or look at upcoming weather or check google maps.
  4. In case you guys were wondering, it's the little bloody spot between my eyes that got hurt, the rest of my face is naturally that way, can't blame the trailer on that one!
  5. Okay...most of day one was running around getting supplies...Didn't get a whole lot done. Here's what I did do: Removed lights (need replaced) Removed tie downs around sides of trailer (will be covered with wood) Painted frame and sides (sides will be covered with wood, only painted incase there are gaps it won't show silver, just look like a shadow) Removed, cleaned and repacked bearings Caulked holes and corners from outside (will do this again from inside too) Did have one incident...I had the trailer upside down while I worked on it. I was lifting it from the tongue to flip it back over and the tongue hit the bike ramps that hang from the ceiling. The ramps started to come down so I let go of the trailer to catch the ramps...Unfortunately they weren't lying in school when they taught me about gravity, so down comes the tongue of the trailer...But don't worry, the trailer is okay, I caught it with my face while catching the ramps with my hands...got a nice little gash between the eyes, nose bleed and a heck of a headache but I think the trailer is fine! After a few choice words and a look in the mirror to ensure my nose was still there, I went back out, finished flipping the trailer, pushed it to the side and cleaned up the garage...I'm done for today!
  6. It's always nice to take a trip OUT of the country once in while!
  7. Beer30, Did he make any other modifications? extend the tongue, new grease, etc... Also, did he just seal the joints by putting a bead of caulk inside? Thanks!
  8. I don't know where the tails came from. The previous owner had put them on there. I like the look of them too. He also swapped out the pipes, so they are a little bit louder than the stock ones. From what I've read, that might be an issue with sound bouncing off of my trailer...
  9. Nope! That was it. I figured it was something simple like that...I thought that link was to insert ANOTHER sig picture...I already had the one I wanted showing...LOL But it's fixed now! So thanks for the help!
  10. I went to the website and saved my picture of the states that I've rode. Then went to userCP and added it to my signature. It shows the map uploaded and I see the pic in "your current signature picture" but the map isn't showing in my signatures when I post...Any suggestions about what I'm doing wrong? Thanks
  11. Here's my trailer in work and some pics of my newly installed hitch. Hopefully I can keep this thread updated as I modify my trailer...
  12. Well, dad drove almost 800 miles (one way) to spend Thanksgiving with my family. It was an awesome time but I had an ulterior motive for him coming up. He's been a long time Venture rider, so I wanted his help installing my new trailer hitch and wiring, changing the oil, and just generally showing me around my new (to me) Venture. We had some good weather and my plan was successful. We got the trailer hitch installed, fabricated a bracket to hold the plug (see pics), installed the wiring harness for the trailer, changed the oil, blew out the air filters, added some seafoam to the gas, and he showed me some other areas of interest to pay attention to. Was a great visit and working in the shop with dad is ALWAYS a good time!
  13. Wife already put the foot down on a BBQ...LOL:mugshot:
  14. How about a mini hottub to go with that? Might have a little problem with the weight distribution of the water moving around...but those are the breaks...
  15. Thanks for the idea dad. One idea that I had was to make it look like an old time supply wagon...the kind that would pulled by a horse when you went to town to get supplies...The idea is that I'd be pulling it with an "iron horse"...The idea would be a seat in front (cooler holder) and the top would be flat with but with a few fake shapes on top of it made to look look boxes, barrels and grain sacks... Not sure if I could do this and make it look good, but that was just one idea I was kicking around...
  16. This is my first "big" bike so I figured I need a trailer just to be official! I picked up this Harbor Freight trailer from a guy on CL for $100...Hopefully over the next several months I'll fix it up and customize it...If all goes well, I'll have a good trailer ready for the summer. My plans are to do something "different" and make it a truly custom trailer, not just throw car topper on it and call it good...we will see how much time I have...I'll keep everyone posted along the way if I can. Suggestions and recommendations are always welcome. I have some ideas of the "look" I want, but if you have any neat ideas, throw them out, it might give me more ideas.
  17. I like the idea of a sticky in the water hole section...The way I usually review the forum is drop in several times a day and just click the "new posts"...unfortunately it doesn't show new classified ads, so I miss out on those often. If there were a stick in the watering hole though and the seller also posted a short note about what they posted, I would see that pop up in the "new posts" search...
  18. Thanks! Any other suggestions on how to fix the broken bolt anyone?
  19. Wondering if I should get a new seat...Since I've only had my '06 RSV for a few weeks, I'm still slowly going over it and "fixing" it up. I had the driver seat off the other day and noticed 2 things. 1) there is a small (less than an inch) rip or cut in the side of the seat (can't really see it unless you are looking). 2) one of the 2 bolts that hold the seat on is missing. PO had used a sheetrock screw to hold that side on... I'm going to be sending the seat in to the member on this site that does the seat mods for lowering/narrowing anyway...so I'm not sure if the bolt can be fixed at that time or if the rip will prevent the cover from being restretched...Been spending money already getting a few "extras" for the bike so hate have to buy a new seat if I don't need to. Anyone got a stock seat collecting dust they need to get rid of? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!
  20. Mike, My concern with bending the frame back was weakening the frame integrity. Twisting it one way and then the other makes me wonder if the frame will give out even if the welds on the brackets are good...beyond that, I don't know if I can apply the physical pressure required to bend it back...and if I could, it makes me wonder if an 800lb bike wouldn't apply more pressure than that when it leaned back over, just re-twisting the frame again...but I'll talk to the welding shop about that option too...thanks for the suggestion!
  21. The dealer suggested that the previous owner had transported it with the kickstand down. Then if the tie straps weren't tight or there was a lot of bouncing, the pressure on the stand would twist the frame (or mount?)...either way, they claim their manager even made an "extra" call to Yamaha to try to get them to cover it, but they still said no... I stopped by a welding shop after picking up the bike and I think he's going to try to modify the stand to get it at the right angle while not dragging in a left lean. My only fear is the strength of the weld afterwards...I'm sure it will be ugly but I know know guy that does powder coating, so maybe he can powder coat the entire stand and it will look good, just not chrome... Any other suggestions are still welcome!
  22. The pivot bolt looked good. No slop or anything. Dealer called back and of course they aren't going to cover it under warranty...guess I can't blame them, it probably is the previous owner's fault, I was just hopeful...So now I have to figure out an alternative...try to bend it back, cut off the mount and reweld in another position, make custom kickstand....I'm afraid that if I take it to a welder he's going to want me to take the bike completely apart to heat the frame...that's more of a job than I want to do! Sure wish I lived closer to dad, he could fix it!
  23. Not that I know of...The seller didn't mention it even though I mentioned making some mods like that...but I can fit two 2x4s under the stand to get it at the right angle...so I would think that even if the back had been raised, I would hope it wouldn't affect it THAT much! Regardless, it doesn't "look" raised... Thanks!
