carb adjustments
Prairiehammer replied to ltl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That great annotated picture of the carbs was first posted by Mike Brood (mbrood) here back in 2012. Credit where credit is due: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69490 -
That looks like redwood or cedar. Cut-offs from a planing mill? Too nice for firewood. In fact, redwood and cedar don't make very good firewood and will deposit a LOT of creosote like stuff in your chimney. If you ARE going to store it outdoors, 'stickers' should be placed between each layer and an air space between each piece. I know you aren't worried about air circulation to facilitate drying since it is kiln dried, but stacking those pieces tightly together will encourage mold and insects (and rot, if not redwood).

carb adjustments
Prairiehammer replied to ltl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
NO! Don't drill and remove THOSE caps. Those are staked plugs to the float valve seats. As Brian and Neil have stated, the pilot adjustment screws are in a deep well, cast into the carburetor body, located at 6 o'clock below the diaphragm covers. The pilot screws (or as some call them the idle mixture screws) meter a fuel/air mixture for the idle to mid throttle range of engine operation. The passage(s) that this mixture passes through are tiny and convoluted and yes, this entire circuit can be plugged. Since you did not remove the pilot screw anti-tamper plugs, you of course did not remove the pilot screws and thus, despite your soaking the carbs, you most probably did not get the pilot circuit clean. -

Does the Second Gen have a 'roll-over' valve? It is a one way check valve to prevent fuel from spilling in the case of a laydown. -

They also are on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/96-royal-star-master-cylinder-sight-glass-lens-window-/360261321427 They currently do not have Venture sight glasses listed, but if you go to the above cited eBay item, you will find their phone number with an offer to sell any sight glass you need. -

So, the Classifieds upload doesn't have an automatic rejection (as does the forum threads) of attempted too large uploads?

I don't know what parts you are looking for, but Pinwall has a few 2000 MM Edition parts, including right and left front lowers and trunk (check both pages): http://stores.ebay.com/PinWall-Cycle-Parts-Inc/_i.html?rt=nc&_nkw=00%20venture&_sid=12458664&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1581&_pgn=2

Monty? It looks like you been sweating. Is it hot there? But, why isn't your 'daughter' sweating?

Most of mine are because of PEBSAH.

J.A.W.A.S.= Just A Wild Ass Supposition? Most peeps would say JAWAG, but Jack, being from the Left Coast, well...

If the float valves stick open, then the fuel overflows out one of the four tubes (exiting in front of the rear wheel). Try rapping the float bowls with a dowel and mallet to try to jar the sticking valve into closing. It is not a death knell for the bike. Just may need some fuel system cleanser. Close your tank petcock after riding until the issue is resolved.

Yes, for a FJR. But the First Gen Ventures from 1986, all the Royal Stars, all the Second Gen Ventures have the same final drive design. The trouble with lubing the rear most driveshaft spline by hand is that you run the risk of ruining the front final drive seal when removing and reinstalling the driveshaft at the final drive. If the final drive lube is lubricating the rear drive shaft spline (and it will if you maintain the correct final drive oil level), why risk damaging the oil seal when removing or reinstalling the driveshaft?

The two bezel screws are sheet metal screws that thread into a 'spring nut'. The spring nut slips onto the upper fairing. One likely scenario is that someone put in a machine screw instead of a self tapping screw, with a resulting misfit. Another possibility is the spring nut is just spinning, especially if the original spring nut was lost and someone installed a 'non-U' spring nut (Tinnerman nut). Take off the center fairing air intake (four 'Phillips' machine screws) and you should be able to see up in there and see the back side of the headlight bezel screws. Determine the problem (inappropriate screw or nut) and using a pliers, either squeeze the tab on the OEM spring nut to engage the screw threads or hold the Tinnerman nut with the pliers to keep it from spinning. -
'Tis truly 'high-tech' but $1500!

I don't know about others, but I've not had much luck with screw--- while she is PMS.

Here are a couple more pics of rat Ventures, not Zagger's, though. Just some that I have discovered. No information.

Scott, In another thread, you wanted see some more pics of Zagger's 'rat Venture'. Rather than hijack that Leaf Looker thread, I'll start a new thread just for you!

Steve, If your points still have some 'meat' left, try taking your 'point file' (you have one from the good ole days, right?) and cleaning up the points on the fuel pump. Same principle as the points on a distributor; the points become pitted, increasing the arcing, that increases the pitting, that...well you get it.

I can't speak about the '89 maroon, but my '90 maroon had a black background on the mascot. And my black '91 has a black background. According to the microfiche, the '89 mascot is same part number (color) as the '90 and '91 (black). The '86-'88 and the '92-'93 are the same (apparently red/maroon).

The Brown guy with the rings in a jewelry store? I have no idea.

Is that a replacement or an addendum to the RSV?

Perhaps your mixture is too rich with B12/Techron (not volatile enough). Drain the mixture from the bowls, reinstall the fuel line from the tank. Even though the bowls are refilling, perhaps the bowls are not refilling FAST enough to sustain the engine? -
Are you talking about the lower cowl that hides the oil filter on the MKII (1986-1993)? That piece was not on the MKI (1983-1985) Ventures. You don't have the lower cowl from the factory on your 1986? FWIW, the lower cowl from a MKII will not bolt onto the MKI without changing the engine guards. The engine guards (crash bars) on the MKII have tabs intended to receive the lower cowl. The MKI crash bars do not. Perhaps your 1986 has been 'modified' to eliminate the lower cowl and the MKII crash bars? Is this the part you are talking about?
