  1. Damn...looks like it has the tall sissy bar... been looking for one of those! Looks like a great parts bike for certain!
  2. If the funds allow... I highly reccomend this product. I do not have a carport...and this is my storage solution for the winter. With the last set of rain that blew threw last nite in PA (several inches) and heavy winds (tornado watches / warnings ...whatever they mean)...not an issue. Snow...just blow off every few inches when snowing (6inches or more can be supported without knocking off) A bit pricey....but it is AWESOME! http://cycleshell.com/
  3. I am interested in adding self canceling turn signals to mr 96 royal star. Can anone reccomend a module? How hard is it to install ? Issues? I have a few mechanical genes... But zero electrical, so the easier the better! What is involved? Thanks!
  4. Two thing 1 assuning you are right handed too much finger in trigger causing all fingers in shooting hand to compress, driving gun to left and usually low. If left handed to little finger in trigger. 2 anticipating recoil drives it lower. Changing sights is masking issue. Another possibility is that you are weak eye (comapred to dominant hand ) dominant. That can affect things to a point. But the low would still be anticipating recoil. I'm willing to bet 1 or 2 is the culprit. Grip and trigger press are VERY important.
  5. When teaching ... I try to refrain from shooting. I find that it tends to put students off a little. Thant being said, I do upon occasion...when the student is constantly blaming the sights being off.. too high, too low... left right...sights are set for a right hander (etc), take the opportunity to verify that the sights are off. I was able to verify that the sights were dead on and took two X's out of three (there was a nine or an 8 for the third)... not my type of shooting, as I prefer the combat accuracy style of shooting of IDPA... can you hit the circle as fast as you can as often...keep the groups tight is what I try for. I do OK I felt good to get back to the bulls eye type of target shooting. Shooting the Sig was WAY different than my Kimber 1911... but good technique is good technique.. that is what we were trying to go for in the training. Break bad habits, and instill good ones...let them know what they are doing incorrect...let htem make hte mistakes and then once they start knowing the mistakes... they usually get better by the next session or two.
  6. Actually more to the point ... A deer hit me last nite. On my way home from the range last nite ( teaching a pistol refresher class ) I decided to take the long way home... Nice nite, relatively clear, why not. I headed out to phoenixville, and took rte 29. As I was heading past someof the horse farms (back side of valley forge mountain) heading toward the covered bridge. I saw several herds of whitetail on the side of the road.. They scattered as I came riding through. When I got to the third herd... One broke away from my left and decided that crossing the road toward the loud thing was the safer way to go...instead of into the woods. Good thing it was a little one (for me) and it smacked right in to my left leg and saddlebag. Bike didn't waiver a bit. Took the hit, remained upright and no damage ( that I could see) to the bike. Man was I lucky
  7. In another life I used to detail cars. I had a few bikes come in. Make sure you tell them no armor all (or whatever protectant they use ) on the tires. There is a great product for other leather / vinyl that works quite well ...303 aerospace. It is SPF 40 for your stuff. I use it on my seat(s) and is not slippery. Also, be careful of the degreasers used on the motor... Don't want seals or gaskets to go bad. Be specific when asking what they use. And what yo don't want used.
  8. I usually cayy an inexpensive lexan (plastic Bon Jour) french press from Bed Bath and B... it works very well. The strainer is a little finer than many presses, and has a strainer at the pour spout to catch particles... I usually roast my own beans...when I'm not feeling lazy... and this little press is awesome. I also have a small pot / pan to boil water in... making the coffee is the easy part... boiling the water is the trick!
  9. I have several k miles on my bracket I bought from this site ... Still looks new. No cracks. Even with my carbs being out of whack for most of the time .... This bracket didn't move a bit and shows no sign of wear (I have not checked the underside ) Good bracket. Good service.
  10. Acting on a whim, I checked the screws ( not sure the exact name) that are directly dead center under the carbs... All were almost all the way screwed in... From other posts... These should be 3 to 3.5 turns out? Backed out to 3.25 turns...oh man! Idle went up a bit...seems like is pulling a lot better. Smoother? I no longer have the smell of gas fumes at a stop and fires right up under choke... Will re synch thos weekend.
  11. Peg, I have a 96 Royal... basic model gussied up to look like a Tour Classic. There is some sort of a free flow exhaust on the bike (bought it used this year) I too am a little underwhelmed at the power. It is not anemic... but a little above that. Alot of noise, but not much go (compared to my 82 Kawasaki 750 Ltd...that little thing had some GO!). I usually do not use 5th at all... unless on the hwy doing 80 and not trying to pass anyone on a slab. I have executeed a carb synch,... (bought the carb tune) but probably need to do it again as I'm not sure I got it right and had to move on. It ws running better for a bit, but feels a bit out of synch again. I do not have a tach... so just set the idle to where it leveled out on the carb tune and was not too jumpy (yes, I did put the restricters in) Any who... without doing the carb swap, I was wondering of going to the Barons Pod Filter, Dyna 3000 and a re-jet will net me a little more... or am I just going ot be making more noise and not much gain and less fuel milage (mid 30's around town and higher on highway to LOW 40's) While I am slightly mechanically inclined, I do not have many tools (divorce, and had to sell most everything for the lawyers behalf) and live in the Philadelphia Area. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
  12. I had this happen to me. Ths only thing that you could have noticed is when you took pressure readings before each time you rode... if there was a little seepage when applying pressure to the valve stem. Since I was not as dilligent as I am now, I was riding mine...new to me at the time, so I was getting used to the feel of the bike... and it felt like in a hard turn the front tire was slipping a little...felt like it handled like crap! I did not like this bike at all...what did I get myself in to! checked tire pressure, noticed the leak, added the new valve stem...no problems since. handles much better
  13. I use one similar... Except it has two legs that fold out. While not adjustable for height it packs thin and is STABLE. Got it at walmart for not much$$
  14. Lancaster has some GREAT roads. Take a look at the one's I listed if you are ever back this way again. 125 is a little ... rough on the lower sections (not un safe, just not perfect) but hte top end is FANTASTIC when it gets closer to 61 over the mountain.
  15. That is the exact route i took to go home... 61 to 125 (what a CRAZY road!)... .they must have a few 120 degree turns (or more)... when they say 10 MPH... they meant it! There was a slew of sport bikes in that section...for good reason I suppose. then to 501 and 287 ... 322 (there is a GREAT BBQ place on 322 - Something Grilled in Honeybrook!) 82, 345, 401... backroads unknown to get home. a Great ride. When I went there, I took 147 up from harrisburgh (at the camp owners -bob - suggestion) and then to 405. it was an OK ride.
  16. Hummingbird... looks like you are in Malvern... PA? I am currently working in Chesterbrook. Small world. I am eventually looking to get a hitch for the scoot and be able to tow my gear... Funds are super low with having to support a recent EX (still working out the details... FUN FUN FUN). Once I get my finances in order , update the bike with New Rubber, Brakes (etc) I will be looking for a hitch (seen a few out there for the 96 Royal) to tow a Tag along...should be enough to get me to a campground for a weekend and not have to deal with the power supply issues.
  17. Me neither... did a google search for motorcycle camp grounds... and it came up in my state... about where I wanted to be for the wekend. Most places will do a "cabin" as aq rental... like KOA or other places... didn't really want that. Was very impressed wit hthe quality of the matress (comfort) and the sheets... and cleanliness. I am definately going back and use as a base camp for a few day tour of the area...covered bridge tour, grand canyon (of PA) and a few other destinations.

    Daughter w/ Bike

  19. So I was without my daughter this past weekend and had a wild hair to go camping. After getting all my gear together that I normally take (in the car) ... there was no room for me on the bike. King size Air mattress, Tent, Deep Cycle Marine Battery (have to run a CPAP to sleep at nite), etc.... I started to look at options. Most places wanted 30.00 to get a site without electric....so I still would need the battery... 40 or more for a campsite with electric (a bit high but saves me from lugging the battery) Cabins were 100+ (not going to spend 100 on a cabin for myself... might as well get a hotel room) Then I foound this place...almost right where I wanted to be camping ANYWAY. http://www.steelsteedscamp.com/ for 45 a nite... they gave me a HUGE tent with a REAL king sized bed (no air mattress) sheets (nice thread count too), electricity to my tent and all the over fluffy towels I needed for the wekend! Bob was super nice (owner / manager) They also had travel trailers for rent (A/C etc) and other tents with air mattresses (for a little less). Bathrooms were SPOTLESS. If you find yourself in central PA Up around Bucknell (williamsport / State college is close enough) give them a look for a place to stay.
