  1. 1.) Fuel tank capacity. There are several threads on punching the filler neck to attain the full six gallon capacity. 2.) Windshields. There are also many threads on windshields. 3.) Carb syncing. There are many threads and how to's on this. 4.) Backfiring. This popping back through the exhaust is not normal. There are many threads on this. I am NOT a proponent of disabling the ais system though. I would rather find and fix the problem. 5.) Oil and tires. There are extensive threads on these subjects. Just be aware these bikes can be oil sensitive and if you get one your bike doesn't like it may scream at you. So you are in the right place to have your questions answered. Just let the form search engine be your friend. Good Luck Mike
  2. I bought my Clarion c-bus cable on e-bay. Mike
  3. Having taken several riding safety courses where a great deal of discussion was focused on taking curves. A lot of attention is paid to entering a curve, the apex and the exit. My personal feeling is 'if you have to worry about the apex SLOW DOWN you are going to fast". Mike
  4. Sounds like a bad bulb. The only way to burn out a bulb is with too much voltage. Yours seems ok. A poor connection will cause heat and eventually burn out the connector. Yours looks ok. Low voltage, poor ground or bad connections will cause the light to be dim or off. Not burn it out. If it happens again it might be time to put a voltmeter on the bike. Mike
  5. I have the ones from Larry - Carbon One. My wife and I both really like them. Mike
  6. iridium plugs will not make it run worse. Make sure you didn't drop a plug and crack it. Make sure you have the correct plugs. And as suggested check the wires and caps. Mike
  7. Yes you can do that. I usually use a spare battery, a piece of hose and some jumper wires to see if it will pump water from a pot. Or paint thinner or kerosene from a can. I don't like to use gasoline because of the chance for sparks. But yes just connect the wire harness to just see if it turns on. Mike
  8. 1. Coolant splashed all over is not normal during a fluid change. Why did they run the bike on the dyno? Did they run the bike on the dyno and overheat it or what? I am concerned about heads. 2. Battery below 12 volts indicates a problem. Battery, stator or connections etc. 3. Tail light on bright sounds like a brake switch stuck on. Possible coolant contamination but unlikely. 4. No start. Yes check as k9cottage suggested.
  9. +1 Agreed. It sounds like a low battery or bad connection. Mike
  10. Best of luck to you Bubber on this endeavor. I generally like to confirm the problem before disassembling the pump. I use a couple of jumper wires and see if it will pump water etc. I would replace the points either way. It's just that I would feel better if I confirmed the issue. Mike
  11. Last time that happened to me it was because I failed to turn the petcock on. Hey it happens. I'm old so it's ok. Mike
  12. Dang It. On my previous bike (08 Venture) the speedo was off but the odometer was right on. Well I just came back from a trip to Mt. St. Helens and on my 2010 Venture both the speedo and odometer are off. It looks like about 7.5% on the speedo and 4% on the odo. I guess I just need a taller rear tire to make everything ok. Mike
  13. While the speed on most Ventures (Gen-2) is off by about 7.5% the odometer calibration is usually accurate. I was able to confirm this on my 08 Venture on a long trip. I have not been able to do so yet on my 2010. Perhaps this weekend I will get a chance to check it out. Mike
  14. Slow vehicles blocking five cars or more is illegal in some states. Many two lane roads have 'pull offs' for slow vehicles to pull over and allow others to pass. Problem is some drivers do not realize they are going too slow. And some drivers do not realize they are going too fast. Pull outs may not accommodate a group of bikes and shoulders may not be available. Either way I believe in being extra courteous when I am on my motorcycle. I can't speak to the scenario above. I can only say be as safe and courteous as conditions allow. Mike
  15. Knowing how hard it can be to stand these bikes up. Especially if you happen to get stuck on a left shoulder somewhere. I carry a few small triangles of scrap 3/4 inch plywood in the left saddlebag. On occasion I have been known to put one or two pieces under the side stand so I could lift the bike. Then riding off and leaving it behind. Some people have suggested putting a piece of string on the scrap wood to retrieve it with. So far I just leave it behind. Mike
  16. You could always go down to the hardware store and get one of those rubber cups that go on a chair leg. It least that would be an inexpensive way to find out if you really want a longer side stand. Mike
  17. The picture is not what I expected to see. Most fuel lines have a round connecter which you can push in slightly. You then slide in a round release tool and pull the line apart. The picture I see looks like a flair nut. I'm surprised but it is not the first time I've been surprised. Use some liquid wrench and a pair of high quality tube wrenches. Good Luck Mike
  18. I'd have to see a picture. Because most high pressure fuel lines use a special fitting that requires an equally special tool to remove. Mike
  19. If they don't come out with a new Venture then Yamaha won't even be in the hat. Mike
  20. Thank you very much MasterGuns Mike
  21. Geez I don't know. But if you go to the Napa Star Chapter 445 http://www.napa445.com/default.html you can probably e-mail Pauline Carlton and make arrangements. Mike
  22. Randy Thanks for the post. Mike
  23. I frequently don't see moon walking bears. Mike
  24. Cowpuck Every penny helps. Thanks for the kind words. For me I can pay back my bank card over time. Mike
  25. Freebird If this post is not allowed please delete or move it. I received this e-mail about Lin Tomy today. I met Lin last June when I had my motorcycle accident. She was behind me and stopped to perform first aid. She helped make sure I was transported to the hospital. Then she made sure my wrecked bike was towed back to my home. All of this for a stranger. She is one of the kindest people I know and an avid bike rider. I am truly saddened to hear of this accident. But I am also glad she is still with us. If you can, please go to the 'gofund.me' web site and give a little assistance. Mike Subject: ** RIDER DOWN ** HELP NEEDED Good morning everyone: Lin Tomy, the Napa STAR Chapter #445 Vice-President, and Contra Costa County STAR Chapter #186 member was sideswiped by a vehicle on Saturday, April 11th, 2015, coming home from the Merced STAR Chapter’s Vet Run. She suffered major traumatic injuries, has had two surgeries on her left leg where the rods and screws inside are now permanent. The doctors have indicated she’ll be off work for a year, and won’t be able to ride again. As you may recall, Lin was with me when we rode up to the NW STAR-B-Q last year. As we speak, she’s been moved to a rehabilitation center closer to where she lives, and is starting physical and occupational therapy so that she can live a more independent lifestyle when she’s released. She’ll be at this rehab facility for 2-4 weeks. The left leg is non-weight bearing for at least four months. Even though an application has been sent to the STAR Family Foundation, a GO FUND ME account has been set up through FACEBOOK. This link will get you there gofund.me/sxc3u4c. It’s a request for assistance in getting Lin a vehicle with an automatic transmission necessary for day-to-day living, but also follow-up doctor’s appointments and ongoing therapy treatments when she goes home. I was hoping that maybe you could forward this request along to the STAR Chapters within your areas? This will really help to expedite and get the word out in STAR land that one of our riders needs some help right now. PS and BTW, employment benefits will be ending June 30th. Her only source of income after that is going to SDI, and we all know how far that doesn’t go. L THANK YOU for your anticipated assistance with this. J PAULINE CARLTON, President Napa STAR Chapter #445 gofund.me/sxc3u4c
