Ahh good! If he doesnt do anything with them at least I know where to find them -
Well as you may remember I recently added a post about the first ride of the year. I was seeing mom and dad off to texas for 9 days as we were loading up their goldwing I decided to take a ride and it definitely didnt help extinguish my riding fever! So here it is thursday and as promised I went home to work on the bike. Not like I had a choice though, I need to take mom's cat out every other day. So i got home and got to work. I approached my old, stripped, but never self concious Royal Star Venture with what I could only describe as a gut feeling for glory (or last nights burritos) I walked to her left side and pulled the choke and within a second she fired right up. She still doesnt want to run on the front left cylinder with the choke on, but really that doesnt concern me too much. I let her warm up As i made some final adjustments. Put the right front cowell on. Fastened the gas tank and the front seat on. After she warmed up and was purring on all fours I shut her off and did the final try on the back tire. Put the washer back where its supposed to go and threw the side bags back on. Man I gotta tell yah that I really missed seeing her with her bags. Definitely just doesnt look complete without the bags! I lowered my dads bike lift (he's spoiled I know) thew the new antanna on and straightened her out in the garage. I excitedly ran to her left side eager to plop my but on that old familiar seat but when I did, something just didnt feel right. I scratched my frazzled hair the frazzlyness of which can only be matched by my frazzled brain and wondered why it felt so weird. Clearly somebody was tampering with my bike, and then suddenly like a light bulb it came to me. Some fool raised the back end an inch higher off the ground and boy what a difference that inch can make. So once I came to terms of my new butt position. It was time to ride. This next part is for Puc because he wanted to hear my opinion of dark siding. One word for you Puc... Different! When i first got going I decided to kind of swirl around the road like i usually do and with the new leveling links along with the car tire. I had to learn to re-ride my bike. Kudos to whoever came up with this whole leveling link idea by the way. With the new tire, leveling links, and relubed suspension it almost rivals my 85 in handling now. I'd have to say the most different thing about it is sharp back and fourth cornering, but I also didnt get to play with my air pressures much. I'll probably wait until a 40 degree day to do that! As far as traction goes... Gobs and gobs of it, I even have proof! Notice that nice fat Tread mark on the back... Now notice the skinny one in front of that? Yeah even with the back tire broke loose the front still couldnt hold it still. Now thats traction! (probably also a good indicator that my bike is running stronly) What made me happiest of all though, is that when I installed my new to me OEM slip ons. It had a terrible backfire. Nearly as loud as a gun and would scare the crap out of me. I decided I didnt want to plug the AIS because to my understanding it works like a check engine light. If a cylinder dies she'll tell you with a LOUD bang. Took her on her first run. Rode it nice and rodded the piss out of her and not a single back fire. All cylinders run at idle, light throttle and full throttle. I even held it at about 4000 rpms in first gear to see if i could feel any cylinders die out while feathering the throttle and nothing. COULDNT BE HAPPIER!!!! So I'm nearing completion of my bike and i'm getting more and more excited for an amazing summer! When i get it done I need to put on about 200 miles and double check for any loose bolts!!!

One thing that they could be useful for is sticking them on the bag without cutting into them! Put 2 on the trunk and one on each saddlebag! I doubt they'd need a battery swap often!

Well my mom and dad loaded up their Yellow 1800 wing in the trailer and headed off to Texas this morning. My brother and I were over to see them off and help them get the trailer ready. I moved the cars out of the garage and fired up the goldwing and let it warm up. After I got everything moved they were still piddling with the trailer in the back yard and that quiet humming goldwing was calling my name. So I ran over and nabbed a helmet quick like and carefully got the bike over the ice in the front of the garage and took off. Accumulated about 8 blocks with a light jacket and no gloves. I figured it would help with my fever, but no... on the contrary Now I HAVE to finish my bike up and ride

If you get out my way go to Martinsberg, NE or Belden, NE both have huge burgers!!! -
Definitely would recommend those saddlebag guard rails. Also going to be the first bit of safety chrome for my bike!

I actually had to reset my phone to factory defaults and I dont digitally back anything up other wise they would be gobs of pictures. Especially of little individual parts to help me remember things. I've never been great with pictures though, one of my VERY few faults

I saw you were working on that mobile center stand thing. How did that work out for you?

Well too bad! I'm gonna tell you anyways! I got my 99 RSV a 2 years ago almost to the day. When I got it she had about 20,000 miles on and i've put about 10 on since i got it. This next summer, however, I'm going to Arizona on an 11 day trip and I've got mini trips planned all summer. All in all i want to get over 10000 miles this summer. So being at 30K I decided it was time to do some maintenance. Step Numero Uno: The back tire on my bike was completely shot, probably to the point that I had absolutely NO business being on it so that was step number one. I had bought some used OEM slip ons from ebay for a RSTD so this would prove to be a good opportunity to install those. So i got ahold of a nexen car tire and decided to try being a darksider. While i had the tire off it was also a good time to install the leveling links and I also packed the swing-arm bearings. I managed to save the old seals and everything. The bearings were in perfect shape. I have to admit the though, that bearing grease was starting to get pretty thin, so I did my usual of wayyy overpacking everything. While i had it all apart I took the opportunity to lube all of the suspension linkage. I had to put the car tire on by myself because the shop wasnt willing to go over 60 pounds to seat it and didnt polish the rim before installing the tire. So i did that reletively dangerous procedure in dads garage, but as you can see, I'm still in one piece . Greased the "axle" splines or whatever you call them and re-installed the tire. I noticed however I put a washer in the wrong spot so thats where she sits until this thursday. So at 30K miles I knew it was time to do a valve adjustment so I contacted SkyDoc and ordered a set of gaskets and he let me borrow the shim kit. Huge Thank you to skydoc for that, he saved me a ton of dough!!! During dis assembly of the bike i noticed that the intake boots from the carbs to the cylinders had cracks all the way through at the top and decided to replace those. Also the boots going from the air box to the carbs were cracked on the right side and upon further inspection proved to had been letting dust into the carbs so I replaced those. Decided to go through and clean the carbs for kicks and giggle while I had it apart. They were really clean so I put them back together and reset the float levels and finally got all that put back together today. When I first started the bike (and this was the first time in over 2 weeks with sub zero temps) it only ran on 3 cylinders with the choke on. The front left wasnt waking up quite like it should until i shut the choke off and let it warm up for a bit. Took no time to start, but as these ventures do it took quite awhile to warm up. She was running on all four cylinders and as far as I know will fire on all four with the choke engaged now too. The bowls were completely drained so i think that may have been some of the problem. The only problem is now on the right side of the choke linkage where the philips head screw goes in it comes loose.... Damn I though i lost a lock washer. So when I go back thursday I'll throw some threadlock on it to help. Got the throttle cables adjusted somewhat and lubed them as best I could. Replaced a few vacuum lines and got the lower fairings installed back on. The bottom strip on those lower fairings both broke, but I'm not a super cosmetic guy so two nice black zip ties will hold me content enough I went to the a 6 dollar offroad headlight from Amazon and I dont remember who referenced me to that but thank you IT IS BRIGHT!!! I'm now waiting for my new windshield so I can put the fairing together and I need two male P-259 connectors so I can go to a one antenna system, new speakers all around and really thats about as far as I've gotten. I want to say thank you to everyone who's helped me on this site, including the people who did the tech write ups. Those are brilliant and lifesavers! This really is the best website on the internet. Now all I have left is to take the tire off and put that washer back in the right spot. I need to also mount that strip for the windshield to the speaker studs. Lube up the front and rear brake calipers. Change to a new front tire and tighten the needle bearins and I'll be done for this summer! If i missed anything and someone catches it I really hope you let me know! Spark plugs are new and fuel filter was changed last year so I'm going to wait until the next valve job for the filter

I'd give them Kudos but its been like that for 10 years. I find it hard to believe i'm the first person to complain about it.

If you're gonna have the covers off anyways you may just get lucky and not need the tool

Noticed yesterday a huge pot hole in the parking lot. Got on the local exchange site to see who to contact and the owner of the Burger King there contacts me immediately saying he got ahold of a contractor to get it taken care of right away. He said safety is number one priority and was just generally really nice about it. It makes me happy I'm such an avid bk customer! Looks like a good place to drop a venture....
