If all four carbs can be synced together that should prove that they have equal vacuum right? If there was a vacuum leak on that cylinder it should show on my carbtune right?

Seems like only yesterday, lets go back to where it all began...

I don't feel like bikes today (or anything for that matter) are as cool or just generally as neat as they used to be. Very few bikes currently on the market that attract my attention. My dream bike that would be new would be an XJR1300. Which is still a throw back to the air cooled in-line fours of old... Really think sometimes I was born in the wrong generation... -
Youre right puc You can see the slides without the air box on. Im going to work on it tonight. Starting by trying to clean and blow out that pilot jet. Ive been doing the feel test as you've described. I think I could get away with murder cuz I don't think I've got much for prints left . I'll start with the pilot jet and if still nothing off with the air box we go. Doing research on this site is helping me aLOT!!! When you really think about it there is only really so much that can cause a lack of idle. Either pilot jet, diaphragm slides, no fuel getting to that carb, no spark or low compression. So I'm gonna work my way through it slowly. I don't think I missed anything. I'll keep You updated Thanks again and shoot now I guess I owe You lunch LOL

Should be able to unplug a spark plug cap, insert a screw driver then with the screw driver in the spark plug cap position the screw driver about a quarter inch away from the block. Crank the engine and look for a spark. Or you can just grab the screwdriver and crank it and if she shocks You VIOLA!!! You have spark -

Let's go half on it! You can have it every other weekend:missingtooth: -
Ok guys so this time i've actually got a few questions. The first one is. If you have a stuck slide (lets say its not out so its closed) the bike should be able to idle fine? I've been told that these bikes have an idle circuit and a throttle circuit. I do have a terrible memory though so i could be wrong. My problem is my bike isnt firing on the back left cylinder at idle. I dont know how to tell if its running under throttle though. The bike seems to have alot of power. so how do i tell if its running under throttle? I know i have good spark because if i spray WD-40 into the port the idle perks up quite a bit. Tried adusting the pilot screw but i dont think that did anything. And the carbs are freshly synced. Carbs are recently cleaned so I'm not UNWILLING to take them off just UNWANTING So where do I go from here. Any help will be really really appreciated!!! If you're within like 500 miles I'll even come and buy you lunch!!!!

So do you think that the XS1100 owners are always giving first gen Venture riders crap for having the "tuned down machine" kind of like you dirty old first genners do to us Second Gens? -
Well you guys may have read a recent post from me gloating about my success with the carb rebuild. Well it turns out I missed something. I noticed it wasnt idleing quite as strongly as I thought it should so I got down and did a real close inspection. If you remove any of the vacuum caps on any of the cylinders the bike starts chugging and about dies, which is normal and is what I'm looking for. However on the back left cylinder (I think this is number one) when I remove the vacuum cap there is no change in RPMs so I did the usual of spraying some WD-40 into the hole thinking maybe I had no spark and VIOLA the engine perked way up and it started running like a dream. Since I cleaned the carbs I guess what I'm going to try first is to remove the pilot screw on that cylinder. Spray a little carb cleaner into and and then give it a shot of compressed air. Hopefully this will wake it up. If it does no good then I'll remove the Air Box and double check the slides to make sure they're operating fine. The bike seems to have plenty of power, even lots of low end and runs as smoothly down the highway as it used to. So hopefully I dont have to fully remove the carbs to fix this. Any suggestions?

She sure is a peach! Never seen one fully dressed though. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that an XS1100? They had one at the stealership here for 3 grand... I didn't even make them an offer I will some day make it my own! -
