  1. The part numbers for the belts are available here on this post of "how to fix" your unit. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15376 Hope this helps answer your questions. Red Baron
  2. A couple weeks ago I asked for some help with my tape deck. It was "eating" my tapes. I got good advice from this group. I did a short "how to" of what I did to affect repairs. I put it all in a "word" format, complete with photos, and was going to load it in here for submission to the group. It won't copy the photos. What am I doing wrong ? Thanks for the help Guys ! 3. They are listed in my Dennis Kirk catalog. The part number they use is 19-5357. Price is listed at $27.99 Price may not be correct as my catalog is a 2006
  4. I have a 1990 VR. The tape deck has always worked well and I enjoy listening to different music tapes when I'm on the road touring and can't get a local radio station. Recently, while on a 7000 mile tour of the northern US, the tape deck "ate" my tape. I tried to see what had happened looking down from the top but all I could see was the tape was hopelessly wrapped around some component in the bowels of the machine. When I got home, I took the tape deck out of the holder and removed the bottom cover, exposing the area where the tape was all entangled. I removed the "mess" very carfully and after inspecting the parts for wear or damage, reassembled the player, as all looked OK. Put it back on the bike and it seemed to work just as expected. Today I made a new tape to replace the one that was "eaten" while on tour. Tonight I put it in the player and tried to play it. The damn thing "ate" the tape again. What should I look for to repair this unit ? Can it be repaired ? Or is it just worn out and time to think about junking it ? Thanks for any help in resolving this dilema. Red Baron
  5. Thanks for your responses to my question about the carb repair kits. The "problem" was noticed after I had an incident with "no fuel ? " for start after a stop at Devils Tower. May have been vapor locked as the temp was 103 and the engine was very warm after the slow climb up the hill to the visitor center. The reason I think vapor lock is because the fuel pump ran for an extraordinary long time after I turned on the key to start engine. Usually I don't hear the fuel pump run at all after the intial start up of the day. Anyway, later, after this occurred, I can occasionaly smell gasoline a few minutes after I shut down the engine. Makes me think I might need needle / seat replacement and float level checked. Again, thanks for your input. Red Baron
  6. While on a recent tour of the northern United States I experienced a problem that made me think it is time for a carb overhaul or re-build. I have a 1990 VR with 82K miles on it. The question I have is: Is there a carburetor rebuild kit available for these carbs ? If so, where ? This would be a kit containing gaskets, needles, seats, etc. I see some good data on the tech bulletin board about rebuilding the carbs but no mention of where to get parts or if a kit is available. Thanks for the help Red Baron
  7. Thanks to the suggestion from SKID, I went back and did a second look at the fuses. I discovered a second, smaller fuse box, in front of the battery, below the primary fuse box. It, did indeed, have a fuse for the hazard lights. Yes, it was "blown". Replaced that fuse and problem resolved. Hazard lights work perfect, again. This just reaffirms what a GREAT site this is with eveyone sharing knowlege to keep these 1st gen ventures on the road. THANKS AGAIN !!! Red Baron
  8. I have a 1990 VR that I was getting ready for a nice road trip. Turned on the key and started checking all lights, turn signals, horn, etc. Everything functioned as it should until I tried the hazard lights. They always have functioned just fine in the past. Now, this time, they are "dead". Turn signals work just fine, front and back, both sides, but hazard lights won't come on at all. Anyone have an idea where to look to make repair ? I looked for a broken wire or loose plug in that maze behind the headlight. I checked the hazard light plug and switch. Where is the "flasher" located. Everything looks fine. HELP !!!! Thanks. 9. A couple years ago I got a new airfilter for my 1990 VR from DENNIS KIRK. It's a paper filter that looks and fits, exactly like the OEM filter. It was a IEMIGO brand, PN 12-94470. I think they call it EMGO. I think it was about $27 US. Hope this helps.
