  1. It's not THAT bad!! First thing you need is a trunk rack from an '85 only!!! Otherwise you need to get a trunk rack from a MK2 and also the rear subframe from a MK2. You will also need the antenna mount from an '85 on up! If you find an '85 trunk rack (what the trunk mounts to) you can use your '83 trunk mounting hardware on the MK2 trunk, or get a trunk from an '85, and it will still be removable! If you go the route of swapping the MK2 rear subframe then you can also mount the larger MK2 saddlebags if you want even more room!! Of course you will also want to (actually need to) use the MK2 rear fender and lighting... The MK2 trunk rack can be made to fit the MK1 but you need to saw off the two down arms so you won't need to use the MK2 subframe. Regardless you WILL need the longer antenna mount...
  2. We would love to see you there even if it is only a day or two Chuck!!

  7. You think gas is expensive, try buying a house there...
  8. There is another fix for the whine here on the site somewhere, it involves installing an oiler line to the clutch are from what I remember. Other fix is to replace your clutch basket with a Rev "I" basket but that is not a guaranteed fix. Turn up the radio or put loud pipes on, the whine is characteristic of the 2nd gen and there is no ill effects other than being irritating. We just accept the George Jetson sound...
  9. Uhhhh, Dave, that first picture is pretty obscene, this is a PG site...
  10. I saw an ad for an upcoming 3 part series on Discovery on the history of Mr. Harley and his motorcycle beginnings...

  13. Well, glad you asked that Big Tom!! Spragues is a place in Portville, NY where we are going to have breakfast on saturday morning, and let me tell you, the food there is absolutely delicious and the portions are HUUUUGE!!! Actually the official name of the restaurant is called "Spragues Maple Farms" and it seems like just about all the food tastes of maple syrup! Here's a link so you can see what they are about! https://spraguesmaplefarms.com/ I need to tell you something important about the breakfast ride, Saturday, August 27th is also Ventureriders annual "In Memory Of" ride day, so we are dedicating this year's ride in memory of our beloved departed friend Ed "Freakin' Jonsey" Jones who attended several of our previous rallies. Ed will sincerely be missed! Now, you would think that the big breakfast ride would be the only event of the day but NO NO NO!! It's just the beginning of a great fun filled day!! In the afternoon we will be having all sorts of fun games to play, leading up to a GREAT Picnic dinner catered by Chanderson's Restaurant for a VERY REASONABLE price of just $10 per person, and believe me, it is well worth the money, the food is GREAT!! But wait, there's even more!! Starting about 7:30 there will be a LIVE BAND with great music!! Be prepared to be entertained AND have fun dancing the night away!! Don't worry about looking foolish, we ALL will be doing our part at that as we enjoy the music!! Rumor also has it that there will be samplings of "Black Death" and Gas Monkey Garage Cinnamon Tequila available to those that would wish to try out! All in all it is going to be a REALLY FUN PACKED DAY!!!
  14. Yup! The coil is an "autotransformer" which is in reality a very big coil with a "tap" on one side of the coil to make it act as a primary winding. As Jeff stated, the TCI opens and closes the ground to the primary side of the coil, and 12 volts is always on with ignition on. Now, theoretically because the voltage applied to an open circuit is the same at whatever point along the circuit you measure it, you should see 12 volts at the end of the coil, and at the plug side of the plug wire...
  15. yes Jay, they are!! I have a rear E-4 in the front size mounted on my trike as of last week!!
  16. Uhhhhh, pass the brain bleach?!!?
  17. Pucster, glad you chimed in about the exhaust gaskets, they do indeed cause popping on decel! Yah, the YICS plastic box IS known for developing cracks, especially on the seams! Also the rubber hoses can, and do, deteriorate. The YICS is something that makes a difference in theory, but in reality does not seem to make a difference! Yamaha stopped using the system, now the vacuum ports are plugged off with caps that you remove to sync the carbs on the front carbs. Interesting note, a newbee GFRicky recently bought a 2nd gen, and we noticed someone had modd'ed the system and interconnected the vacuum ports on both sides with a tee adapter on the left and right sides, making it look somewhat like an attempt to "equalize" the carb vacuums sort of like what the YICS does...
  18. I was actually being serious, some of the very first cars had kerosene headlights, electrics didn't come out for a while...
  19. Headlight on car...

  23. Yup! Many people have noticed smoother shifting after an oil change! I guess a good indicator of needing an oil change is how it shifts...
  24. Well, actually with my risers I did drill and tap 1/4" holes to install short shafts the same size as the handlebars but never got around to fabricating the short shafts, and really never noticed any huge issues so I left the pucks off. Good idea with RTV'ing them! Waaay back when I first installed the Baron's risers back in 2010 I had heard of someone actually sawing a hockey puck in half and wedging the pieces in! Anyway it's been 6 years and the fairing hasn't suffered any damage...
  25. Manual?? We don't need no stinkin' manual...
