    Help!

It idles ok but then the revs change up and down. If I rev it up it backfires and the two left cylinders cut in and out. It seems to be associated with the revs.

    Help!

Bike just crapped out on me. The two left cylinders keep cutting in and out. I am supposed to lead the toy run on Saturday. No way to get it off the island to a shop. I have cleaned the air filters and I have a socket that fits the carbs but I don't have an extension that will fit the socket. I have poured in a can of Seafoam and am hoping for the best. Any other suggestions?
  4. I read an interesting study done a while ago and I wish I could find it again. They examined every aspect of the accidents including age, experience, road conditions types of bikes, speeds involved etc. They found no common cause. It was not until they started looking at the vehicles involved that they found a common thread. Most involved suvs, vans and jacked up pickup trucks. They did computer simulations and concluded that in an accident with a car the rider would often be thrown over the car and survive. With an suv or van the rider would be thrown into the vehicle and die. The number of suvs and vans on the roads has increased greatly. Another study showed that most police reports were in error as they relied solely on an interview with the driver of the vehicle who usually claimed the biker was speeding "just came out of nowhere" is a common statement. When the scene was analyzed , damage to vehicle, skid marks, position of bike after the accident etc, they found that most times the biker had not been speeding.
  5. We are getting some together for our biker games this saturday at our toy run. For those who don't know the girl stands still and holds the roll of toilet paper between her thighs, the guy has to cover about ten feet of distance with the toilet plunger between his thighs. Nobody may touch either object with their hands. The plunger is supposed to be inserted into the toilet roll, I say supposed to because the plunger seems to have a mind of its own.
  6. My dog did it. I had an empty wine glass sitting on the coffee table and the dog walked by and hit it with his tail. The glass broke in just the same way. The top of the bowl came off and the rest of the glass did not move.
  7. Enhanced licences are available in BC, BUT when we went down to the Dalles I noticed that those of us who had passports got through way faster than the reserved line for the enhanced licences or the scanners.
  8. You know they were not ignoring each other, they were just too busy texting and tweeting or twittering or whatever it is.
  9. Got a garmin gps to use as a speedometer for my 49 chev P/U. Just ordered a holder so I can use it on the bike as well. Should work out great. I like being able to shift it from vehicle to vehicle.
  10. If you are like me and not serious about golf then the bag I have is great. It is soft and folds up when empty and has room for 4-5 clubs and a couple of cool ones, balls and t's. Just sling it over your back and go. If you are more serious then use your full compliment of clubs and leave the bike at home. Either way you are going to have an enjoyable day.
  11. RedRider...If you love old english cars I would guess you haven't owned many, or you are a masochist. Lucas..prince of darkness ring a bell? I have had a '49 Austin A 40, 56 MGA, 57 MGA, 59 MGA, 56 Austin sedan with AH engine, 59 Hillman, 65 Triumph 4A, 65 Austin Healey 3000 mk III with the BJ8 engine. I have a picture of the 59 MGA and the Healey 3000 side by side but don't have the skills to post it.
  12. Way back in prehistoric times we had pagers...no cell phones. I had to have a pager for work and I picked it up in Victoria. A couple days later we were building cement floats for our sailing club docks. I was riding a block down to the water when the cable snapped and I had to jump into the water. First pager down. I got a new one and was out in a race a couple days later when a line caught it and flipped it into the water. Second pager down. I got another pager, put it on the back of my belt, went out and got into my Austin Healey with its bucket seats and heard a crunch. Third pager down. One week...three pagers. I took the pieces back in and for some strange reason they refused to give me another. I still don't have a cell phone.
  13. Would like to but that is the day of our Saltspring Island Toy Run. Since I lead the run as Santa I can't duck out. We are expecting about 150-180 bikes this year.
  14. They got Canadian beer there or do we have to bring our own?
  15. That is really sad to hear. We currently have 72 forest fires in B.C. of 24 acres or more and 12 of them have evacuation orders for residents. One is getting close to my cousins house in Kelowna. Long hot summer.
  16. Years ago i had a girlfriend who loved the bike. That was the Madura. No back seat armchair. At one point I was riding along and reaching back with my left hand to hold her on the bike as she was sound asleep.
  17. We went to Telegraph Cove and came around a corner right into fresh gravel. How fresh? The dump truck still had its back up. How deep? 6-8 inches. I went down to low gear and powered through it. Just barely made it before stalling out. They are doing gravel work here patching cracks and holes. Lots of loose gravel on top of the pavement. Like riding on ball bearings.
  18. So....who are you leaving your bike to?
  19. For example .......today....get up, make coffee, fetch newspaper, sit on deck and read paper with coffee. Later I will take the rat rod to a rockabilly concert and rod show in Chemainus. Back in time to have pizza and beer on the deck and watch the sun go down. Rarely wear a wrist watch any more. Did I mention the boss is out of town?
  20. Retired at 59. Loved the job, loved the people I worked with. hated the dysfunctional company I worked for. Took a cut in retirement pay just to get out. Bonus...I have had a 2% raise every year while those who are still working got nothing. Not good but that is the market place. I looked at the alarm clock and threw it away. I now do whatever I want, with SHMBO's permission, Hot rod shows, bike runs, rod and gun club, I am Santa in our local bike toy run. I have been retired 12 years and have never been so busy.
  21. Cruise works fine. Light is not always on unless I turn cruise on.. When I turn the bike off the cruise goes off and I have to re set it. If I push it to on it stays there and if I push it to off it also stays there and when I set it in the middle it stays there.
  22. Backfire seems to be fairly common. If I get the carbs tuned it stops for a while but always returns.
  23. I don't know about anyone else but on my 02 when I push the switch to turn the cruise on it stays down.
  24. The Venture I have (02) has one on each side.
