  1. Below is link of what I did to side stand to 'permanently' fix it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48342 Gary
  2. OK, VMax stuff has my attention. PM me with available goodies. Gary
  3. Try running power 12v+ directly to TCI on the Red with White tracer wire. This will by pass starting & kill circuits. Also disconnect the Black with White tracer wire into the TCI, this will bypass tip & side stand switch. The tip over 'relay' will kill the TCI if jumped. You want to unhook it. Paragraph above will do this. 419-589-4175 Gary
  4. Pictures from Quaker Steak & Lube on Friday and others of MD festivities. Gary
  5. I do not recall seeing a torx head bolt on a 1st gen used anywhere. But then I am not all knowing. That's my wife !! Parts fiche & parts number cross reference I have show same screw used on trunk from 1986 thru 1993. May help if someone has an unused trunk lying around. P/N 90159-05132-00 Gary
  6. Heather & Rachel followed me to my house in Mansfield Sunday morning. Heather had the side stand bolt break on her 84 Venture near MD this weekend. This failure also caused the side stand rear ear to break off also. No welder available at Freebird's. I wasn't sure I had one at house as I had just sent one to GAWildcat a couple of weeks ago. If I didn't I was going to put Tweety on center stand and take side stand from it and put it on Heather's bike. She had a long ride to Florida to get back home. Would have been a long ride with no side stand. Turns out I did have another spare. Took less than 30 minutes to get it modified and put on bike with a bolt that shouldn't break. Another satisfied Venture Rider !! Gary
  7. You really should put a relay in. Air horn is a lot of current through a switch like horn button has. PDF of one way to do this is attached. Gary
  8. The blue relay is the side stand relay. This one has a blue base due to it being different from the other relays in bike. The contact on this relays contact opens when coil is energized. All other relays on bike the contact closes when coil is energized If you remove this relay, it is bypassing side stand safety functions, you may be able to put bike in gear with stand down & not kill motor. Gary
  9. I will have the Polaroid XS100 tomorrow. TigerDirect.com $139 with $5 shipping. I'll try it up to Oberlin this weekend. Gary
  10. Sandusky, Ohio is having the annual bike week, last weekend through the 9th of June. No entry fee, at least never has been. Rather festive happening, about 12 blocks of downtown Sandusky, right up to Lake Erie, shutdown and lots of things to do. About a 40 mile ride from Don's place. Map link next. http://y.ahoo.it/w6lYqhLv Website: http://www.ohiobikeweek.com/ If anyone is interested in riding over Saturday afternoon, get in touch with me. Coming back you would be on your own. Like herding cats there during bike week. Gary
  11. Yamaha 2nd Gen VMax's are a V4 1679 cc fuel injection with YCC-T and YCC-1. Brand new in 2009, all different EPA rules for new introduction. Gary
  12. I would probably have a used set of #125 mains. I doubt this is your problem with not running. The idle jet is a #42.5 and is the source of many idle problems. Very small orifice and it clogs easily. The orings I don't have new ones, but may have a used set. Not sure. Gary
  13. Have you unplugged the connector going to the fall over switch? If you unplug connector, switch is no longer a factor. Bike will start if this was the problem. If not then it may be in the starting circuit. Bike will crank with fall over switch activated, just not run. Let me know if you have it targeted to fall over, I have several and can send you one in tomorrows mail. Gary
  14. I have 3 of the Ignitech TCI's for 1st gens still available. See 1st post for details. Gary
  15. Attached is one I made several years ago. All 4 tubes are tied across bottom manifold. You want vacuum tubes on top, to try & lift the column of fluid. And if one starts pulling real hard, then adjust the corresponding sync screw. Idle setting is # 2 carb, sync others using #2 as reference. Procedure is in service manual. I attached a PDF of a few pages from 86-93 service manual. 83-85 is same. Gary
  16. Something that might affect LED's is the dimmer switch is more than a rheostat. There are some electronics in the dimmer. Might be a start. Gary
  17. I'm not 100% sure, but I am leaning towards, YES. Don't have a clue what's wrong in there. Sorry, that just begged for a sarcastic 1st reply. Gary
  18. These readings should be taken with the pickup coil connector unplugged from main harness. Gary
  19. Not really. Ground gremlins are very sneaky. Gary
  20. Air ride only works in ACCY position. Probably a safety thing to keep riders from messing with it while under way. It can be bypassed though. Gary
  21. Signal fuse, only 20 amp one on the 86-93's Horns, tach, volt thermo, CMU all run on this fuse. Gary
  22. Clutch slave packaged up and will go out today. You should have it Monday. Put hex head cap screws & rebuild kit in package. See you Friday !! Gary
  23. I have a very good used unit. It is off a 2001 RSV. It is on 1st gen block for hybrid. But far away from needing slave if it gets you moving. I can overnight it to you tomorrow, and you will have it Monday. Also have an extra set of new hex head cap screws. Like them better. And I have a new in the package slave rebuild kit. Gary
  24. A number of us have tried opening air box up and it does not make it better. It drastically kills any throttle response 2500 rpm & above. Loosen top of air box and put a very thin shim in so lid won't close all the way. This will allow more air to come in. Try reving motor or a very short ride. Picture is of correct air box orientation. Gary
  25. See your other thread, just posted 2 fuses to check. Gary
