  1. Wow guys..very helpful info you are providing. I looked at a G2 once but it had evidently been lowered and I didn;t even like that particular one enough to sit on it. I'm 6'5" and I actually like the height of the G1 altho as I get older it is getting harder to lift my leg over to get on and off. I get 39-41 MPG routinely on my commute to work and back thru the hills of KY but mostly hwy. 130 miles round trip and I always take a scenic route on the way home. I also have a 2001 Connie that gets a bit better mileage but isn't nearly as comfy. I am considering selling both current bikes and getting something that needs less upkeep. Like the 1800 Goldwing but not enough MPG...I have a cage that gets 35 MPG. Really like the looks of the G2 and have the familiarity with the drivetrain..so it's gonna get first dibbs I think. Really appreciate the feedback so far. It's hard to find a G2 to test drive or even sit on around here. Bob
  2. It's actually the drivetrain and MPG I really like about this bike as compared to some of the bigger cruisers. My plastic parts are pretty much taped and zip tied together any more and I'm sure it's time to do some more serious engine work. I still constantly get compliments on the G1 but got to say it's not in that good of shape...lol. Do the G2's handle same or better? Power and gearing about the same? MPG's still over 40? Sit lower? One of these days is right..lol:backinmyday:
  3. May GOD be with them both(and family) in time of need! Prayers sent!!
  4. Here's a question for ya's. What are the biggest differences between the two? Style certainly but I mean do folks that ride a 1st generation eventually move on to a 2nd generation?? Or are they so different one would not even know they were related if only by name? I have a 1st generation and I luv it but she's getting older and needing lots of work and I'm not really interested in becoming a mechanic and not too many shops want to work on her anymore. I'm thinking about a 2nd generation but have never ridden one yet and gotta say I like the looks except for the dash. I can ignore the dash if all else is good so just wondering what folks that have ridden both think of the differrences. Bob:stirthepot:
  5. Jeremy, Yep pedal seems to be dropping lower and lower and I find myself pumping altho I'm not sure it really helps. They will eventually work but you have to really be pushing hard if you are in any kind of hurry to stop. Poor ole bike. I sure wish they would go back and make this one again but yeah I know...If a frog had wings...LOL. I'll take a look next day off.
  6. Earl, I'd also like to know if the calipers are a simple plug and play to the existing system. What year bikes will they fit. And what kinda money we talking to get a rear caliper? I haven't even checked mine yet but I've noticed lately a severe loss in rear (pedal) braking so I'm gonna guess I better ask now and look soon... Replaced the left front pads recently and had really good braking for a short time. Bob
  7. Thanks again Condor...common sense but still helpful to a brain dead like me sometimes...
  8. Thanks guys I really appreciate the replys. Still have one more question.... is there a specific year R1/R6 set of calipers that will fit? Ok I lied another question would be is there also a rear caliper switch out that can be done also? I just had a new front tire put on and the dealer noted my left front pads were needing replaced and he said when I questioned him that when he tried to get that caliper to compress back in to put on easier he was not really able to get the caliper to compress and that the caliper needed rebuilt but he really wasn't wanting to get into all that (Honda dealer). after riding about 70 miles yesterday I parked bike took off jacket and helmet and checked rotor temps with bare hand. Neither front rotor was holding any heat to speak of but the rear rotor was still fairly hot. Is this a fair way of checking if calipers are not releasing? I know they need done either way I'm just curious. Thanks again guys.
  9. How can a fellow get a kit from Earl and what is the cost for it...is it even still available? Would it be simple plug and play for 1990 VR ? What is MK? I know these are simple questions to you experts but I am certainly not an expert by any means. After sliding into a guard rail last may mine doesn't even ride truely straight anymore and I was planning on scrapping it but she just doesn't want to quit running so now 5000 miles after wreck I'm starting to try salvaging the old girl.
  10. Good luck on your recovery !! Took a spill this spring myself on my '90 Venture and not sure how I managed it but I now have two bikes...lol. Bought a 2001 Concours thinking the Venture was a goner... But got it running again and now have two bikes that are both very nice in their own respects. Altho I have to admit I'm pretty sure the Venture suffered some Dain Bramage (which makes us about even...lol) cause now it thinks we should be turning slightly left at all times. Makes me keep my hands on the bars all the time anyway. First day I had the Venture back on the road I went and rode the exact road I went down on and ...have riden it many times since but it always gets more attention than usual roads. These bikes got heart and mine wasn't ready to be put down yet altho she's a bit "rough". Fix yourself up physically and mentally, fix up the Venture, and get back at it asap. Glad you're going to be ok ! Bob PS..Wife thought sure I would quit riding so she's not too happy about the addition to the family...hehehe....but she's a good sport!
  11. Just went to the Dunlop E'3 (MU90B16) for the rear of my 1990 and so far very happy with performance. Went thru several sets of the 404's and still have a 404 on the front but will probably change that to an E3 also when worn out altho I haven't researched sizes for the front yet. The rear 404's got 7k miles if I was lucky so hoping for many more miles on the E3. I also have a 2001 Kawasaki Concours and just switched from Dunlops to Avons on that bike and the difference is extreme in a very good way. But then again that bike takes radials and I may not get the miles on the avons but handling is totally different. Not to mention that the Connie is 200-250 lbs lighter than the Venture and I always felt the 404's were just not a heavy enough tire for the Venture.
  12. Thanks Condor, I think I'll go ahead and get the one on ebay since I am an experienced ebay-er and not sure how to do the transaction with you.I really appreciate your help and think you are doing an awesome thing in handling the "brace buy" for everyone! Also thanks to BJ for pointing out the brace on ebay!
  13. OK Condor, Thank you ! Mine is OEM for sure! Had no idea the super brace was so flat and square looking.IS that one on ebay the equivilent of a super brace? Would it be worth purchasing in place of the "super brace "brand?
  14. BJB, IS THAT A SUPER BRACE? Looks like what I understand one should look like but I've never seen a super brace yet so you tell me...lol. Thanks for the link !
  15. Hey all , newbie idiot here and just two months into Venture-ism. Thought miine had the super brace already but turns out from last description I read it doesn't. Mine is about 1/2 inch thick and has hex top bolts. Since I missed the gi-normous order at the good price what would be my best option at this point to get one? Sorry Condor because I messaged you once when ordering and told you I thought mine alreaady had one but I didn't know what I was talking about.Did do the clutch upgrade already tho and wow..what a difference ! Any reply's would be appreciated! Bob-1990 Venture Royale
