Be ready to invest some money into it, there are going to be things that need to be replaced, afterall it's a 30 year old bike. Things I would look for: condition of the plastic, is it missing tabs, cracked, paint condition. Bottom of the trunk will crack out on some bikes. Paint condition. Age of tires, sure they may only have a few miles on them, but how old are they. Things I would plan to go over before I ride it: Brakes, including a caliper and master rebuild. All wiring connectors taken apart and cleaned and then coated with fluidfilm. Check and lube the steering head. Change oil, including the forks. Lube all points on the swing arm and remove the rear tire for complete service.

I think it's an excellent choice for you, barring any issues that it has. Ridability should work premium for yah.

You might have a loose connection at the battery or a failed connection. Take the cables off, clean them and then try again. Testing voltage probably won't tell anything seeing as you need to see amperage, unless you test the connectors under load, then things might show up for you.

I would look on the right side lower frame member where the vin number is, if not there possibly on the triple tree.

Did you check the paint code on the manufacturer sticker?

Yep I remember those days, snow banks 6' high easy, and lots of forts, had to dig the driveway out on almost a daily basis so the milk truck could get in, skated on the field all winter long, tobogganing already in November, cold enough that the only vehicle that would start was the VW, no heat in the bedrooms but lots of frost on the blankets and ceilings,,,, yep, that was southern Ontario back in the 50, 60's.

Best take your bike, that would be tops on the list, then my mother always said to take clean underwear, so I would add that. Later in life I also learned that a pillow and something soft to lay on would be a nice addition. Also I learned, and many others would back me on this, if you take a passenger and that person happens to be female, get a trailer!! Other than that, I'm READY!!
