  1. My Mother in Law was a secretary in the ER. Me riding while I was dating her daughter was fine. Once we got married the BS started that we were going to die and that a helmet wouldn't help us. I finally got rude with her one day and walked out. My Father-in-law had a discussion with her and my wife. No issues since then. I've only heard a couple stories about what he said to them but he was pretty hard on them. Smart Man he was. Anyway, I wore a half helmet for about 10 - 12 years. I developed Tinnitus after a 12 hour ride in very windy conditions. Several of us had this happen on this ride. We all wore half helmets. I loved it for the airflow down here in Houston. Then I started using a Cardo comm system and was putting in pocket holders over my ear for the speakers. Just recently went with an Aria Full helmet. Not cheap but it was the only one that fit my big odd shaped head. It's a little hot at times but overall very comfortable.
  2. So an all electric touring bike? I don't see that plausible with today's tech. You can do short jaunts in an electric car but then you have to charge for how many hours? A hybrid, a little more plausible but getting a battery of any size to really make a difference in mileage I'm skeptical of. In a normal year I average 12000 mi just to and from work. This takes into consideration that I travel - a lot. My round trip to the office is between 70 and 80 mi per day. Electric or hybrid is a little more feasible for this. No for the other 8 - 12K I put on the bike, these are days of 500 mi or more. The range on such a small battery for this type of travel would be unacceptable.
  3. This could be a very good reason why Yamaha went they way they did on the Gen 3. Low RPM, the manual recommends shifting at 1900 RPM and the rev limiter. I've bee reading good reviews about Ivan's Performance finishing their ECU changes for the Venture/Eluder Ivan's Performance Products (ivansperformanceproducts.com)
  4. Glad your all OK. I've hit multiple crows and one duck. The duck it was about 5 years ago while my wife was learning to ride. I was behind her on my gen 2 at about 30 - 35. She spooked the duck. It came up and all I could see and feel was it's wing across my face. I was wearing a half helmet at the time. Scared the crap out of me but it gave us nothing more than a good laugh.
  5. I carry a small gallon can in my saddle bag. Have for years. I personally have never used it for me but have for many others. Bikes and cars. If it is not used within 3 months I pour it into my truck and refill it.
  6. I'll give you a good laugh about grass. We moved from Northern OH to Houston 15+ years ago. 1st time I'm mowing a neighbor comes out and starts telling me how I shouldn't mow in the middle of the day. Asking why he's "you'll die of heat stroke" because your from the north and not used to this heat. After I get done laughing I explain that the 15 - 30 minutes it takes me to mow this postage stamp lawn we have isn't going to give anyone heat stroke. Well I finished mowing and just cleaning up and started pulling this 'vine'/weed. Ove the next few weeks and months these things just keep getting worse - I couldn't get rid of them. I was telling a friend about the issue since he's a native Texan and he comes over to take a look. I show him what I was talking about and after he stops choking on his beer he looks at me and goes "That's your grass, dumb@#$." 🤣 I had never seen St Augustine grass before. LOL
  7. Great job. I wish I had time to do more. Ad a nice cool shop to do more in. We're expecting to get to 95-100 most of the week.
  8. Here's another but I think you could almost buy the whole bile for what they are asking. 99 Yamaha Royal Star Venture XVZ1300 Tour Pak Back Rest Luggage Trunk Speakers | eBay
  9. Can we safely assume its for the 2010 in your tag line? This one should fit the bill after some paint to match. 2007 Yamaha XVZ1300T XVZ 1300 TFW Royal Star Venture Tour Pack Trunk Complete | eBay
  10. OK So I am googling this and what do I find on YouTube - Your short video of the problem 🤣. I'll keep looking as time permits.
  11. My '18 Venture gets 40 when I'm in touring mode, Sport mode Well let's just say that is still being evaluated. My Truck and the Wife's Tahoe are both older like us but they get about 15 - 16. Raining in Houston today and it was painful putting $70 in the tank of the truck and we have some of the lowest gas prices in the country at $4.16. Hell it was just below half a tank.
  12. Sorry I won't be on but we don't like nice LOL. We prefer naughty. Wait did I just think that while typing? Yeah, I'm sticking with that.
  13. That's a great bike even today.
  14. More pictures. I love the early model Gen 1s I just don't think I would know how to work on it and the dealers her post they will not work on anything older than 10 years.
  15. 2 weekends ago up on the Pitbull it went. Oil change, check the air filter and a general look see and check 'most' bolts. Then a good bath cleaning of the underbelly of the beast. A lot of road grime now washed down the drive. Then Thursday out for new rubber on the rear.
  16. An interesting read and also points out what happens when a bunch of people work together. https://www.theepochtimes.com/astronomers-discover-cosmic-angel-wings-caused-by-collision-of-2-galaxies-in-leo-constellation_4433343.html?utm_source=ref_share&utm_campaign=copy&rs=SHRJBKNC&
  17. When I used to do this a lot (before wife and kids) I always carried home made fire starters. I would grab wood from around where I would be and start a ground fire. I always had a small hatchet with me. For the meals I always carried tin foil and made foil packs. This way I could stop at a small store and grab what I wanted. I only carried a small metal cup, a metal spork and used my pocket knife to eat. The metal cup was good for boiling an egg if I had them but mostly cowboy coffee. I also only use water from nearby streams. I used to drink directly from them and by todays standards I should be dead just from the water. Fire starters were basically a cardboard egg carton add a mix of saw dust/shavings and wax, (thick on the saw dust) and add a candle wick sometimes but the egg carton worked just fine.
  18. Well, when we were in school we were responsible for our actions, not a teacher, a parent or a friend. You take away that responsibility of action you take away any deterrence of said action. And yes, I've done street racing, burnouts etc etc but we ALWAYS chose areas of little to no traffic or housing. Those in NE OH should remember when sections of the new 4 lane (20, I think, from 57 to the JVS) were held up in court (or something) in the early 80's. (Same happened with sections of 480). It was built but not "open" for a year or so. That was fun. Racing up one side and down the other with only farm land around.
  19. I miss the country but my wife is from Long Island and loves where we are. I keep beating the we need land drum but alas I believe it is falling on deaf ears.
  20. I build a small wood box for my '06. Worked great to hold smaller items.
  21. I saw pictures of an adapter someone made for a 2 post lift. I can't find them now though.
  22. We had an old Farmall Cub and a larger Massy Ferguson which both had the PTO drives. One of them we used to run a neighbors small saw from the 40's. It was pretty cool how it worked. When he moved to southern OH, near Seneca Lake, He bought a new one with a front bucket, a backhoe, forks, brush hog and a side mower. That side mower was awesome for him. He had rolled one of the tractors mowing a dam on the small lake they were on. That side mower made it so we didn't have to worry about that as he got older.
  23. Does that has a PTO. Would be cool to run some vintage stuff off of it like a sawmill etc.
  24. I'm not a big Birthday guy either. I can only say we're glad your (all of our) parents made the right decision. Happy Birthday
