Just came across this, haven't watched it all yet, but it's supposed to be an analysis of that shot. Just thought you may be interested... It's supposed to be a link to the video but it posts it here, sorry if that's not allowed please delete. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzwY6jIwr2o One thing that comes over on this thread is that we are ALL thankful for & indebted to our military & those who serve. To the guys & ladies that are willing to offer up everything to protect our lives & our safety, whether they be Canadian, US, UK whatever. We are proud of them, support & thank them all for their service & I for one wish them all the luck in the world. Stay safe, alive & return home to your loved ones. Thank You All!

Been holding back all day, but I just gotta tell it now.

I really like the Nomad, one thing to watch... a friend had a 1999 model 1500cc, not sure when they changed the design (I'm thinking early 2000's) but some (including his) had a plastic oil pump gear, this eventually wears out or breaks & is an engine out/ split to replace. There is a guy in the US that makes a revised oil pump gear but it's a lot of $$$ but less than an engine rebuild. My buddy fixed his with this solution & it seems to have worked. Like I say not sure of the year bikes it affected. Annoying thing is in the USA the repair was done by Kawasaki regardless of the bikes age, but here in Canada nix, nothing, nada it's sadly up to the owner. -

Love that Nomad, that's what I was looking for one when my RSTD fell into my lap. I've only ridden an older 1500 (the 1600 is similar) & it was a great bike to ride & didn't feel top heavy (which can't be said about an RSTD) But Vulcan your's isn't stock is it? Up here the 1700 Nomad doesn't have the "armchair" for the passenger, or the front fairing, just a big padded backrest & stock plastic screen. -

Well I was going to say something along those lines (I had heard that a lot of HD stuff now comes from "outside of the USA") but I don't have the details or any hard facts so thought I'd just stay quiet on that score -
Just purchased a '84 Venture XVZ12 .... Wow !!

No way does that bike look 33 years old! :happy65:Absolutely Superb, you lucky person. Hope it runs as well as it looks! If I could find one in that condition..... -

You've got to hand it to HD, they did one helluva brainwashing (sorry "marketing") job on the public. Even though they were using 40 year old technology they still managed to brainwash (sorry, convince) people that they were somehow "the best" (they also played a lot imo on patriotism) & keeping things American. People bought into it in a big way. I agree that some HD Stealerships are arrogant as are some car/truck stealerships. I know I could easily afford a HD, but why? when I can have the same fun on a bike costing less than half the price? Just so I can say I ride a HD?... I don't think so! Did anyone happen to notice that they (Harley Davidson) are preparing a bid to buy Ducati? (which is currently owned by Audi & VW) One has to wonder why as the Ducati & HD bike lines/ models would seem to have very little in common. -
No offense intended but I can see why people are "misunderstanding".... Your earlier posts imply (obviously to more than just me) that it's all luck & very little skill... especially with the comment about blind squirrels.... Just sayin'
-
Not sure anyone wants "proof" Those that don't believe or think that there is no skill & that it's all down to blind luck, are not going to change their minds, no matter what proof is put before them. People who don't believe will simply say the videos (or whatever other proof is supplied) are faked or altered. In addition I just saw that for the first time ever a Canadian Infantry Soldier is commanding the "Royal Guard" (Queen's Guard) in the UK. The Royal Guard is charged with protecting the Sovereign & their Palaces. Oh! the Infantry Soldier also happens to be a woman! Go Canada! not the first time a woman has commanded the Royal Guard but it is the first time an infantry soldier has (but maybe that false news or it never happened either! LOL)

Talk about ... (but Na!.... they wouldn't do that!)

Can't speak for the Ovals but I didn't do any mods when I fitted the LA Choppers. Bike runs great, occasional popping on the overrun when cold, doesn't seem to be any worse than any other bike I ride with & doesn't bother me. No saying I'm right of course, I bow to greater minds! Hope that helps

:icon_lurker: Yep! Just plain luck
-
Eh?..... &..... Being Canadian he probably apologized afterwards! LOL Saw a comedy sketch recently by Tim Allen, he said something like "Canadian Military... Wow! only 140,000 to defend a country That Big, Just Imagine how bada$$ those guys must be"

3450 metres = 2.1437 miles. I was out yesterday & measured that on the trip odometer (actually 3.4km) hell, I can't even see that far never mind shoot that far!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luck? Possibly some, Skill? Definitely! To the doubters, it is a record & it stands! Just 'cause it's never been done before doesn't mean it's not correct & accurate! :canada:

Don't know what led to the "kick" but generally in my experience bikers do not do that sort of thing for no reason. I agree best just to get out of the way of these morons. That bike rider sure has some skills. The accident was caused imo by an idiot cager trying "to show who's boss" & in the attempt losing control of his vehicle, & that was nothing to do with the biker. Not excusing the kick at all, he shouldn't have done it, & as has been said, best to shake your head & GTF out of there! My phrase is "Not today a$$hole, go have your accident with someone else, not me!"

You know when I was a young fella, my first "bike" in the 1960's was a Lambretta Li 150 Scooter ('cause my Dad wouldn't let me have a dangerous motorbike!) I was a reluctandt "Mod". The scoot was a two stroke 150cc did around 70mph (with a tail wind ... I also weighed a lot less back then too! LOL) Carried two without too much complaining, often took my Dad to work on it. We are considering a move from the "Metropolis" to one of BC's West Coast islands. (Salt Spring is a favourite). So Maybe all I'd need would be a smaller scoot for nipping to the shops etc. perhaps I might look for another Lambretta, really don't know but I do remember enjoying that little scoot a LOT & that's what it's all about after all. Dunno, maybe now it wouldn't be as much fun (& I know I'm not a daring as I was then) but I used to ride in a group with an older guy who rode a 200cc Vespa Scoot & he kept up with all us guys on our big bikes & always had a huge grin on his face! Wow! Memories huh? I remember on the day before my road test, the kickstart broke & jammed, my cousin offered me the loan of his 50cc Honda bike, but I wasn't used to it & ddin't want to use it for a test. So on the morning of my test I stripped the Lambretta, got the part/s put it all back together & made the road test appointment just in time! I passed btw!

I have LA Choppers on my RSTD, look ok & sound good without being too raucous, my wife who rides pillion says she doesn't find them overly loud. They do change the tone & are more growly than stock. I did put the baffles (perforated tubes) in & wrapped them with the correct muffler insulation. Very easy to put on too.

:sign yeah that: & c'mon get a move on... we want to see the end result!

Looks like a superb job in progress, but as Sylvester said your workshop is far to clean & tidy! LOL

Puc my friend, I love your posts, (well most of 'em) we've never met so I wouldn't presume to call you a Geezer, (you may be one, but I wouldn't call you one! :whistling:besides you might be bigger than me!) it was more a reference to myself phew! hope that gets me out of the hot seat! LOL don't want to be in the Pucter's naughty boy book.
-
I have friends (I do! Really!) who have the V Star 950 & they love 'em. Nice riding position too. & after riding on an RSTD they feel so light.
-
I don't often LOL but I did with your post. It's also getting a bit too near to the truth. Good one. Good to see us old geezers are maintaining a sense of humour!

Tweeksis and the cheap Kenda Challenger tire - an exclusive Puc report.
Kretz replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I have Kenda's on my Kawasaki Vulcan 900LT. Very pleased with them grip & wear (but must admit that I don't do a lot of mileage). They were recommended by my local repair shop & he's a pretty straight up guy. -
Hope this isn't classed as Political it's not meant to be.... What I don't like & it's happening here too, Politicians of all colours, seem no longer to tell people what THEY will do for them, but rather spend more time doing down their opponents by muck raking, trying to make them look bad, name calling etc. I really wish that they could come clean tell me what they intend to do for their electorate & then more to the point if elected do it, not suddenly decide after promising something that "oh! dear we can't or won't now do that"

Personally I see no problem in Responsible people having firearms, or knives, or crossbows or vehicles or anything else that could be & sadly has been used as a weapon. Unfortunately, it’s not the Responsible people who cause the problems. It’s the “others” & there is little way to legislate against that. I, like a previous poster, see no real reason for “ordinary people” to have military weapons, but understand that in the USA that is your right. I would however like to see more “checks & balances” on the process of getting a firearm & perhaps more training in their use. It’s a fact that most crime is committed with non registered firearms & by non licensed users. Here in Canada (contrary to popular belief) we ARE allowed to own firearms BUT the process for getting approved is quite strict, & their use is also much regulated. Thought you may be interested.... Firearms in Canada are split into three distinct groups Non-Restricted, Restricted & Prohibited. These groups are defined by the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) basically our Federal Police Force. The RCMP have the power to change the classification of any firearm at any time & to move it from one group to another. This does happen & suddenly firearms owners can become criminals overnight because guns that they legally owned have now been placed into a group for which they (the owner) is now not licensed. The guns can be seized with no compensation paid to the owner. There are two types of “licence” in Canada A PAL (Possession & Acquisition Licence) which allows us to buy & own Non-Restricted Firearms e.g “long guns” basically rifles for hunting, shotguns & the like. We can also own semi-autos BUT they are not allowed to hold any more than 5 rounds of ammunition. If they are produced as standard (by the manufacturer) with say a 10 or 20 round magazine the magazines are modified appropriately. The second type of “licence” is an RPAL (Restricted Possession & Acquisition Licence) which cover firearms not in the PAL category & is basically all handguns, semi –auto pistols, revolvers etc. Magazines are again limited & may hold no more than 10 rounds. Again if larger magazines are produced by the manufacturer they are modified to comply with the 10 round maximum. For an individual to obtain a “licence” eg PAL he/she must attend a one day course of around 8-10 hours with an approved instructor/ school which includes history, instruction, rules/ regulations, theory, hands on experience & must then take both a written & a practical test. Pass mark is 80% in both. To obtain an RPAL (for handguns) you must first have completed & passed the PAL course. Then you take another one day course, this covers similar topics to PAL but related specifically to handguns & rules regulations use etc. Again passmark is 80%in both written & practical. Once an individual has obtained the necessary course passes (as above) he/she then applies to the RCMP for the appropriate licences. The applicant must provide TWO references, plus a photo & photo ID reference. In addition the applicant must have the written approval of his/ her spouse/ partner & also of any previous spouse/ partner (within two years) The RCMP contact all said references & once the necessary, references/ approvals are received & background/ criminal record checks done the RCMP will then issue the appropriate licence/s. At their discretion! There's no guarantee. Usually this happens within approx 3 months BUT we’re not done yet, although we are than allowed to purchase (subject to minimum waiting periods) & own firearms per our licence restrictions, all firearms purchased/ owned must be individually registered with the RCMP & they must be stored in a certain way, locked, (case/ safe/ trigger locks) unloaded & separate from ammo. We may NOT carry, but are allowed to transport our firearms between our homes & a registered shooting club/ range etc. (except in the case of rifles/ shotguns being used for hunting). Again there are specific rules/ reg's as to how the firearms must be transported. It is also stated very clearly in the courses we attend that a firearm may NOT be used for personal defence of self, property or family. If it is then the user WILL be arrested, WILL be prosecuted & WILL most likely go to prison. There used to be a requirement for a licence holder to obtain a “Permission to Transport” for EVERY firearm, EVERY time he/she wanted to transport it to the range. This requirement has been done away with (for now) BUT our Gov’t wants to reinstate it. Anyway, sorry this has been such a long post but just thought you guys may be interested in what an honest, law abiding citizen has to go through to obtain a Firearms licence here in Canada. One more thing in obtaining that licence, (which is only good for 5 years & costs $80!) we are required to give up certain of our “Charter Rights & Freedoms” in that the RCMP can at ANY time enter our home & search it without reason & it's nothing to do with the Firearms, they are granted the right to search one’s property. PERIOD. Even convicted criminals, drug dealers etc are not subject to this infringement of rights! Not getting Political here as I know it’s not allowed, but there are those that think the above rules & regulations are not strict enough & want the Gov't to tighten them & introduce even more legislation (for law abiding citizens)! Of course this would reduce/ stop all gun crime as it would make it much more difficult for criminals who want firearms for nefarious purposes to obtain them! Oh!... wait a minute.... do these scumbags go through the procedures outlined above?

Hmmmm! Talk about rose coloured glasses. Most Canadians don't lock their doors!" Really??? I don't of ONE that doesn't & we live in a small town. You may want to look at this report & comments made by your Chief of Police... https://www.therecord.com/news-story/6776327-crime-rate-up-in-waterloo-region/ about crime rate etc in Waterloo (which I think is pretty close to you) I'm not looking to get into an argument & I'm glad that YOU feel safe (even in big cities) but I really think you're understating the crime in Canada.
