  1. Wow, asking about a new truck generates as much or more input than a new motorcycle question. A good friend of mine just bought a new Toyota 4x4. He really likes it after owning 3 Chevy and GMC trucks, all 4x4. I do not believe a person could go wrong with a Toyota product. If I did not want a long bed I would consider either of the pickups from Japan. I am buying a new Ram 2500, 4x4, Laramie Longhorn, 8 ft bed, 6.4 L with everything except a sunroof. I haven't bought a new 4 wheeled vehicle since 1975, The Wife has but not me. Do I need it? No. But they make them and I want it and I can pay for it. Plus, since I am retired I have no idea what I might need to haul/pull with it. I have owned under powered light duty trucks then regretted buying them after I had to haul some big heavy stuff. Why Ram? Well I have read good reports and I originally was entitled to the price the dealer pays the factory for it since my father in law retired from MoPar as an executive. I did a lot of research on them. All sounded good. However, before I decided to place the order, he died so no huge discount. Since I put so much time into researching it I am still going with the Ram. Also I have had very good experience with Chrysler products the last 23 years. I'll just have to pay more. Good luck in you decision. It is a tough one.
  2. I am glad you had an answer for this one. Things like this bugs me until I find the rest of the story.
  3. Congratulations, looks good
  4. i haven't heard anything. I do know J&P founder died not so long ago. I have noticed in the last few years 2 or 3 places I have bought from and had good customer service are no longer around.
  5. That is a gun that would be fun to shoot.
  6. yep almost 50 years, 12 ga shotgun, pistol and rifle both in several calibers from 380 ACP to 458 Win Mag. Started w Lee loader for pistol to save $ when in school. But i enjoy it now. Haven't been shooting much lately so have a few rounds ready to go therefore been a while since reloaded. Lee was crap at best but got me interested. RCBS single stage great improvement and still like 4 rifle. started with lowest priced 12 ga then went to progressive MEC and Hornady progressive 4 brass. bought stuff to load 12 ga steel but never have loaded. The Hornady is good but a little trouble adjusting when changing calibers. many serious reloaders use Dillon, $$$. a buddy does a lot of shooting/hunting... reloads steel & lead 12 ga along with pistol/rifle. He prefers single stage for rifle and does it for accuracy. He enjoys reloading but says for just blasting with pistol, the aluminum Blazer is good enough, almost as cheap, and don't have to chase the empty brass. I have been told by a very knowledgeable shooter/instructor not to use the Russian Berdan primed ammo as the primer is harder thus rough on firing pin. Don't know if fact. You'll have to do a lot of shooting to pay for progressive. Start with single stage press as you may not like it. Use good dies and when available use dies that do not need lubricated. Also research b4 getting into it. It is serious business and can be dangerous.
  7. Thanks, I have been thinking of giving them a try. They appear to be a good choice.
  8. I own about 50 different types of ear plugs that I would try on each ride. But once I got to the Mack's Pillow Softs I stopped searching. I'm not saying there aren't better or more comfortable ones out there but I just settled on these. I guess earplugs are like a lot of things everyone is different. My daughter likes the foam better but sometimes they do drop out upon removal of her helmet. One hint an old timer gave me, like I am not an old timer, but I mean he had many more years of riding at the time I reentered. He said he put a little hand lotion on the ear plugs (not Mack's) to make them more comfortable. You can order a sampler pack of ear plugs from Aerostich, http://www.aerostich.com
  9. I know this is an old thread but I am somewhat new to the RSV, two years 20,000 miles. However, I average 15K/yr on my VTX 1300. Most miles on each are fully loaded, high speed, touring miles. So I will add my 3 cents.... I run 40/40 F&R lbs. The OEM Dunlop SUCK on both motorcycles. On the RSV, usually heavily loaded and high speed touring I got 5K on stock rear tire, 14000 on E3 rear tire, handling was good. I now have a Commander II on the rear. We'll see. Front tire is an E3 waiting on total mileage, 10K at present, still looks good. I got about 10K out of the OEM front. On the VTX with 130,000 miles usually heavily loaded, high speed riding Front 11,000 & Rear 8000 on OEM Dunlops. Metzler 888 14000 & 11000, Commander II 18000 & 14000. No E3s. That said I like the Commander IIs but the E3 was good on the RSV rear and so far the front. I am curious how this CII will last on the rear of my RSV.
  10. Yep, Lipitor and Zocor are know for the reactions described. I had bad luck with Lipitor so when I changed doctors for other reasons I told him no Lipitor. He put me on Zocor. It was fine for a while. I complained to him for over two years about my legs hurting. I finally stopped taking it. My leg problems went away. I told him. He then put me on Pravastatin, claimed the body processes it differently. It was good for some time. Now I have the same leg problems and have been diagnosed with restless leg syndrome. The med for RLS helped for a while now it doesn't. I believe I will stop the pravastatin to see what happens. I'm not sure which is worse, the bit or the treatment. I have also heard of dementia as a long term side affect. No firm source on that info.
  11. Cowpuc, I am not questioning your word just want to clearify. The carb syc guages you recommend below: When I put into their fitment chart my 2012 RSV it was stated they will not work on it. If I understood you correctly you have used them on the second gen which mine is. I need a set so just want to be clear before I order. Thank you
  12. Noise level is one of the main stated reasons to legalize sound suppressors in Texas so when the Feds lighten the regulations on buying them we are ready to go.

    DEER!!!!

Definitely more deer. I was born in Clermont County, Ohio, and I still have many relatives in that county, next to Hamilton County (Cincinnati). When I was a kid and even a young adult deer hunting was illegal in that county. We had to go two counties away to Adams county to hunt deer. I am not familiar with the exact law as of today but I do know (as my cousins hunt) that in Clermont County the deer hunting is much more relaxed and very good. I know one year a person could take a buck and two doe. They are actually a problem. I know in that county one reason for the boom in population of deer is they built a reservoir. Too bad as there were some great riding roads covered up. Not to mention the places to park with you honey. Across the country there have been more lakes built plus the number of hunters has radically decreased as casualty of the anti hunting campaign thus more deer. I now live in Texas. I have heard Kerr County has more deer per square mile than any place in the US. Not sure if it is true. I know that while riding on I-10 and the "Twisted Sisters" I saw more dead deer either along the side of the road or on the road than I have ever seen. I also saw many live ones waiting to commit suicide.
  14. Sure looks better than the new Venture. Too many $$ for me to consider. I'll stay with my VTX 1300R and my RSV. At least for a while.
  15. I live in the Dallas metroplex, 20 years, and hate riding in it. I don't even like driving in a car here but of course must. Been through Chi Town in car a few times, it made Dallas look easy. I think the drivers are more friendly up there and maybe they don't go as fast as they do in Big D.
  16. That one should be a good one. It is on my list to do. Not sure if I want to do the IBA ride or just tour around it. I just dread the Chicago part of the IBA ride. Over the years I have been around it by car but not on a motorcycle. Of course MC would be much more enjoyable.
  17. Wow, nice trip. I was up there last summer on my RSV from Dallas. NB I've been through twice mainly as a pass through as my target destination was Nova Scotia and Newfoundland/Labrador My best memory of NB was the world's longest covered bridge in Hartland, NB. It is just across the border near where I-95 ends. There is a lot more near the coast. I was going to get that on the return home but could not. I did go to the Bay of Fundy NP on another visit to watch the world's highest tide differential. The 12 mile Confederation Bridge to PEI is worth the cost just to say you did it. I was disappointed with the carnival atmosphere on the PEI side but once you are away from The Bridge area PEI is a nice visit. They might even try the ferry one way and bridge the other. I spent several days there in 1975, before The Bridge. A trip on the Cabot Trail in NS should be a must. Done it twice 40 years apart and it was great both times. This last trip I broke my leg at the end of it. So my trip to Newfoundland never happened nor did my tour around Nova Scotia. However, look at the map of NS and you will see there are many neat and historical places to visit. If you have never had a lobster roll have one in NS, not cheap but good. Besides it is only Canadian dollars. HA! By the way the Sidney Hospital is a great place for taking care of a broken leg. Plus, I had cute nurses. LOL I found all of the people up that direction great. Actually once I was north of the "mass of cities" in the US I found very friendly people everywhere. It might get cold in October.

    Bmw k1600b

I like the R1200 RT, just like the engine design and the ride. However, the K1600 is one heck of a ride. A good friend has the K1600GTL and a almost new R1200 GSA lowered. All three are great motorcycles. I am short so the 1200 test my comfort level. The K1600 fits me. I'll probably never own either the 1200 or 1600 as I almost have my two year old RSV farkled to where I want it. At 68 another new motorcycle may be out of the picture. At least a high end tourer. I not saying it is not out for sure. My uncle still rides at 84. That said, the K1600 is so technical that I would be limited on how much work I could do myself. The nearest BMW dealer is an hour away. BMW is very proud of their work = $$$. Of course I have been know to change my mind. And if I were to buy a new, current model year, luxury tourer today the K1600GTL is the only one that fits me and at the same time has what I would want except for some of the gee whiz stuff. My two cents.
  19. Any of you do the IBA 2017 Eclipse Saddle Sore 1000 or the SS1000 Gold? I rode to Hyannis, Nebraska, from Dallas with an overnight stop in Liberal, KS. Left Liberal at 0400 to start my SS 1000. I arrived in Hyannis, NE (400+ miles) before the eclipse. Saw the total then headed back home via Oklahoma City for the night, actually morning, after 22.5 hours. This should give me the 2017 Eclipse SS1000 Gold from Liberal plus a Bun Burner 1500 from my home. Only traffic issues was rolling into North Platte on the way back. It was sure a neat thing to see. Sort of weird during darker parts.
  20. Not today but finished a little over a week ago on a Friday. Lowered front with Race Tech lowering kit including Gold Valve. Rewired some existing electrics, installed relay for passing lights, rerouted some wires for HID, motolights, and USB/charger Installed Clearview windshield Replaced damaged fairing, front part only. Flushed brakes and clutch. Man, they were filthy fluid looked like coffee. The next morning I took it for a test ride. I met up with two buddies in Denver. Good BS and then ended up at Bear Tooth Pass. Returned home in 6 days for 3200 miles.
  21. Shaft drive is a "show stopper" for trike conversions? There are many, many Goldwing trikes out there. In any case I believe Yamaha developed a brick but I do like the CCs.
  22. Extremely disappointed with air cooled and belt. I guess Yamaha likes to keep one foot in the past. I would have bet big money on liquid cooled as it is easier to control emissions. I can do the V-twin part but not air cooled. Since it is air cooled what are the big Goldwing looking scoops up front for? Air intake for the engine or intercooler for a later turbo? My RSV is looking even better. If I get to buy another 2 wheeler I'll have to look elsewhere.
  23. Sloped station drives should be outlawed. I was leaving the station with a drive sloping down on the left side but going up hill at the same time to the a main street. I of course stopped to check traffic while still on the property. I was actually stopped and had my feet down. I looked left then found myself and daughter looking up at the sky. We were OK except pride. RSV not much apparent damage but when I got home from my trip with all the scratches and cracked fairing the insurance company was at 74% of value. One more percent and it would have been totaled. Unlike Illinois I would have bought it back but with a "salvaged" title. Good part is I am repairing the obvious damage myself and pocketing the rest.
