  1. So just how did you get it to start on fire?????? Inquiring minds need to know.
  2. Normally this mod is wired to the accy fuse, check that connection and fuse first. It is possible that while you were tracing the wire, you may have broken a poor connection made by whomever did the mod.
  3. Congradulations, I hope you really enjoy what was supposed to be my trailer.
  4. WOW all of my favorite things mixed together. A bike ride, FREE FOOD, flying. Beer is bad so no loss there. Now if there is Ice Cream for desert then..........
  5. Those crispy wires should have no effect on the turn signals. The 4 way and turn signals are all the same flasher. So have found it.
  6. If it is already on the trailer, does that means that it is beyond fixing?????? And the rest were still repairable???
  7. To steal quote from Mike Interested,,, hell yes. Make it,,, very possibly yes. More details please.
  8. But look at the bright side. Once it is is fixed it should stop bothering you, and you can go on with life, with one less pain to deal with. Good luck with getting it fixed. If I had ever thought that I would live half this long, I would have taken better care of this body.....
  9. You can post deals, people do it all of the time. You just have to post it in the correct place. Deals go in Links to Classifieds, Craigslist and Ebay
  10. If all else fails get a bigger hammer.
  11. Existing cables will work, 4ga will work better.
  12. The stock starting system works ok. doing the ground mod on the 2 brush starter makes it better. Doing the wire upgrade makes it better yet adding an AGM battery also makes it better. a 4 brush starter added to all of the above makes it the best it can be. My stock system never failed to do its job. With each upgrade starting got noticeably better.
  13. Most of chat is working. Chat does not remember the selection that you pick in "options". You have to set it all up every time you log in. The "send image" button does not work, it did work for the first couple days. Other than that, It looks good. No hurry, it can wait till you get home and unpacked. Thanks for getting it back up.
  14. At first I was going to say a bad ground wire to the cluster. but if the brake light is also going out, there is no ground connection for the brake light circuit in the dash, that would imply one of the 2 connectors got knocked loose.
  15. Brake fluid is hydraulic fluid. By using the same fluid as the brakes, there is one less type of fluid to be stocked and installed by the factory. There is no chance of using the wrong type fluid in the wrong reservoir by either the factory or the owner. There are components in the system that are shared between the brake and clutch, if different fluids were used the specs of the shared parts may need to be different thus increasing the number of stocked items and the possibility if installing a wrong component in the wrong system. Water absorption is not an asset, it is a bad thing, but not bad enough to use something else. Bottom line is that it is cheaper to use the same fluid and it does get the job done. Stocking units are a big deal to a large company. Besides, if you spill some of most hydraulic fluids on the plastic or paint it just makes a mess that has to be wiped up, if you get messy and spill brake fluid on your plastic or paint, they get to sell you new parts.
  16. It is!
  17. I just voted 107.
  18. Ohhhhh the plot thickens........ We need pics.
  19. Nice pics. :crying: But I'm not there......:crying:
  20. I also use Pledge, buy the unscented unless you like a lot of bees flying around your bike.
  21. The 2nd gens just think that all 1st gens have nitrous or v-boost..... The switch could be to turn off the spark to a couple a cylinders so that you can ride WITH a 2nd gen..... That switch is not an OEM switch, follow the wires to see what they are connected to. It could even be for something that is no longer installed on the bike.
  22. You silly boy, I made a practice run part way there on Sunday just to be ready to go and get MY new trailer. Especially since I was so nice as to let another member here snag that Bunkhouse camper that I found last week. I won't need the bunkhouse with the new trailer. Silly boy.......
  23. There is a lot of basic troubleshooting you can do with no need for a dealer. 11.61 to 12.47 even at idle is not good, but by its self is not enough to diagnose the problem. Start by charging the battery fully. Charge at a 2 amp rate. It will take at least overnight. Take out the battery and take it to a store that sells batteries to have it load tested. There are a lot of stores that will do this for free. If the battery is good, put it back in the bike and get a digital volt meter. If you do not have one, you can pick one up at Harbor Freight for under $10. With the meter set on the 20VDC scale check the voltage across the battery with the engine running over 2000 RPM, and let us know what it is. We can take you to the next steps from there. It is still way to soon to be gussing that it is the Regulator, unless you are the type that prefers to throw money at the problem till you hit it....... We can talk you thru almost anything that you need to do with out involving a stealer.
  24. I got to help a member get his new to him trailer set up to pull to Galina. Then got to escort him part way there. Man was it hard to make that u-turn when I was already headed south on I 43. So now I get to look for pics. Whine kick the dog. whine cuz I got bit. go to work. take my honey car shopping. buy her a new car point out the IR would have been a lot cheaper. go to ER for head trama whine go to work look for pics whine show honey pics of where we could have been whine Back to ER. kick the dog again get bit again. whine some more back at work looking for more pics
  25. #6 seems to imply that it is electrical and not fuel related. The fuel flow at moderate RPM in neutral is very low compared to full throttle under load. This seems to be RPM related and not fuel related. I am not sure just how the rev limiter works on a 2nd gen. Does it skip sparks to reduce power, change timing, shut off cylinders, other? Could it be a bad tci, a coil breaking down at higher frequencies? Is it a PITA to swap TCIs from sons RSV? Maybe do a compression test or leak down test to see if maybe you did float a valve like Dingy said. A weak valve spring could have allowed a valve to float even before the rev limiter stopped it. I never heard of that happening to one of these engines, But I have had it happen on other engines. I'm just tossing ideas out here, I am not that familiar with the parts of a 2nd gen that are different from a 1st gen. But I did ride part way toward Galina with a 2nd gen last night.......
