  1. The thing that drives me nuts about our boat is deciding where to go next. I could go over to Minnesota with the 10,000 lakes or stay in Wisconsin with over 12,000. Then the north border is Lake Superior (where I grew up, but makes my wife nervous) or the east with Lake Michigan, or the west with the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers. I have not had ours out on lake Michigan, yet. Maybe that will be next. Might be easier to go see an old pal that runs a charter out of Sturgeon Bay, though. He would make it fun, for sure. Bit of advice, though. Take the safety course if your state offers one. Good stuff in the class I took. Even though I had 6 years in the Navy, there was stuff I didn't even think about.
  2. If you go to the Sierra Audio store, they have a replacement antenna that folds and is almost identical to the original. It is here: http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=AO-GL12-ANT Price is $45. The add says it needs an antenna splitter, but you already have one since you have the CB.
  3. I decided to try some new LED fog lights on my 1st Gen. These are cheap ($30) Chinese (Mictuning) lights, but I figured I would only be out $30 if they don't work. These have a white LED halo on the outside and a LED spot in the center. They are not true fog lights, since the beam pattern is a spot and not a flat beam. I haven't tried them at night, yet, but they are really only there to make me more visible. I do like the fact that they only draw about .55 amps each. They are wired so the halo is on with the rest of the lights and the center beam is switched with a relay that is powered with the ignition on. This is halo only. This is halo plus center beam. It is easier to see the difference in person. I will update after some time on the road.
  4. Good job Fool. Meanwhile, here in NW Wisconsin it is 60's and sunny. Saturday will be 70+ and b-e-a Utiful. Time to ride is finally here.
  5. Those HD parts are trying to revert to their natural state, which is laying on the shoulder of the road.
  6. If you can't get a factory manual, I would go for a Haynes.
  7. I think the Fram cartridge style for the 1st gen is waaay better than their typical spin-on. I have been using them since I got my bike because they are right next to the gallons of diesel oil in Fleet Farm. They also come with both of the o-rings to do the job.
  8. You can get some of the more affordable 3D printers to run an aramid filled nylon, but that is not very common. I am not sure what the tolerance or finish would be. We typically do a secondary step to get something useful when we print parts for assembly fixtures at work. I have made a few ABS parts that just happened to fit on my bike over a weekend or lunch hour.
  9. I don't think 3D printed parts could take the heat.
  10. Try a Harley (gasp) or similar hand pump for the shock. If the front has Progressive brand replacement springs you may not have or need any air in there.
  11. I just got back from a Navy reunion in Vegas on Tuesday morning. Went to the Dam tour (elevators were not working), Fremont Street (pretty cool if you go with the flow), did the High Roller ferris wheel and went to Piff the Magic Dragon in the Flamingo. Did not do the grand canyon tour, but have been there before. Lots of free stuff to do and a LOT of real expensive stuff to do. It only hit 90 degrees over the weekend. Not bad.
  12. Try a RAM mount. They have several options for bikes. Some with waterproof covers and some without. I am going to be looking for one of them myself.
  13. Also when you change the filter pay attention to get the spring and washer in the right order. If it isn't right the oil will just bypass the filter.
  14. Yeah, I agree that does sound consistent with lifters that don't pump up until they warm up a little. Any bearings under load will get worse with more pressure. Valve trains don't see much change in load, so they would typically be worse before the oil film is up to snuff.
  15. Sorry, I'm going to Vegas. Navy reunion. No pictures. No videos. Deny, deny, deny!
  16. How about trying out your toboggan on a ski jump hill. All we had left was the rope and a sprained ankle or two. Then we tried to substitute a car hood on a smaller hill.
  17. Skitching a ride behind the cop car on a snow covered night. Building a ramp to launch our bikes into the deepest hole in the creek behind our house. Peeing on the neighbor's sauna stove. Trying to see who could slide closest to the open hole above the spring in our pond.
  18. That is a great gesture. Not to mention one heck of an email address. I am at a loss for words.
  19. I wandered through Hayward last weekend and saw all the prep they had in place for the Berkie despite the 48 degrees and rain. Saturday was supposed to be the "Book Across the Bay" going from Ashland to Washburn across Chequamegon Bay. I wouldn't be out on that ice this year. We got about 4-5 inches through noon today, with another 3 or more coming later today. Not a lot, but enough to make it feel like February again.
  20. I had an Accord for a few months. You had to pull the motor mount to change the alternator belt. Then the front suspension fell out (rusted out) and I said goodbye to Honda's.
  21. I gotta say a ride in mid-50's is really tempting, but I can't justify going out until the salt is gone from the northwoods blacktop. It is bad enough on cars, but even worse on bikes. The sand in the intersections doesn't help, either.
  22. http://www.reuk.co.uk/OtherImages/ohms-law.gif Current (amps) is Voltage divided by resistance. So current will go down if voltage goes down. Current will go up if resistance goes down.
  23. My way to deal with long northern winters is to get on my trusty old 120hp sleigh and hit about 60mph across a frozen lake. THAT will wake you up! You do have to watch out for the guys out there fishin', though.
