  1. does anyone know the part number for a first gen carb diaphragm? are they the same for a second gen? just jt
  2. I contacted the seller of the diapragms on Ebay questioning him about the application of them on the 1stGens as stated in his title. I don't know if anyone has tried to seperate the rubber from the slide, but I find it nearly impossible. This is a copy of our discussion. I'd be very carefull if any of you were thinking about bidding on this auction. Are you sure these will fit a XVZ12 XVZ13 VENTURE ROYAL The reason I ask is that, unlike other daiphragms, it's almost impossible to split the rings without damaging them, and the alignment tab on the edge shown in the pic will not fit the recess on the carb body. Comment?? Thanks Hi, well, Herman in the Netherlands, ebay ID storm-h( 72) was my first customer, he had installed these in two bikes, we worked togheter a long time trying to find out if these diaphragm will fit that bike. You may contact Herman for feedback. Regarding the tab you can just cut it off. Hope this helps. Any doubt contact me. Rob Well, that may take care of the tab issue, but I still can see a potential for a developing an air leak as long as the indent remains empty. What it doesn't address is how your friend Herman split the flanges to replace the older membrain as the rings are a press fit, very fragile, and very difficult to seperate with out breaking. If you're lucky you may seperate one out of the four successfully. That's why replacement diaphragms are sold already installed on their plastic slide. Unless you plan on backing up your claim, you may want to post a disclaimer to your application claim, or guarantee they will work, which I know they won't. How do I know that? I've owned a lot of Ventures over the years, and rebuilt a few Venture carb sets during that period. Just a word of advise. I'd suggest rewording your auction title and discription. First I need to thank you for your time and help in this matter, I need to say that I am a honest seller, I has been contacted by a Venture specialist from the Netherlands really interested in these diaphragm after Herman's purchase so at this point after your email I am really confused and unfortunately really ignorant in this matter. Please advise on how I should rewording my auction according your experience in this matter. I don't want to deceive people if these parts will not work and obviouslly I will refund money but at this time I am thinking in cancelling this auction....sincerely. Rob Hi Rob. Perhaps the expert friend in the Netherlands could supply you with pictures of a Venture diaphragm membrain being replaced, like those you've posted in the auction using another diaphragm type?? Perhaps he knows something we don't?? Until then, I'd relist just for the bike the membrain was designed to fit. If you don't absolutely know what it fits then more research is in order. I know it was not designed to fit a Venture when the tab has to be removed. Thanks, I am concerned about al that so just cancelled auction until I can make sure what I am selling, thanks again for your help. Sincerely. rob. Probably best all the way around Rob. Good luck. Thanks Jack, I appreciate your comments, awaiting response to them from my experts in the Netherlands. Rob Jack A LITLE UPDATE I just received an E-mail from Rob the seller and he sent me the response from his friend Herman. Personally I've never had any success removing the diaphragm rubbers as discribed. Maybe it can be done?? Anyone here ever tried it? Goodmorning Rob. I can only tell you about my own expierience with changing the diaphragms. All four came off pretty easily with a bit of twisting and pulling ( they were busted so there was no need to keep then in one piece ) . This means that you don't have to split the carb, slides and after a bit of lubrication you can install the new diaphragms, with care ofcourse and that's it. I think that it all depends on the skills and the patience of the person installing these diaphragms, nomatter what kind of bike you have. So I think that maybe you should mention a certain amount of mechanical skill or background is needed to make this a succesfull operation. I hope this provides you with enough information. Take care. Herman
  3. I am visiting family over 200 miles form home and my bike isn't running correctly. Ran between 55 and 60 all the way and got just about 46 miles per gallon but when I am at low rpms and hit the gas, I have a bad hesitation, I think it is missing on one cylinder until rpms get up a little then it takes off. Changed the plugs but no help. Put sea foam in and no help. Wonder if I have a diaphragm that went bad? If so how hard is it to replace? Any help would be appreciated. How do I tell which diaphragm it is?
  4. Anybody replaced just the rubber diaphragm on a first gen carb. I have a set of parts carbs and one of the plastic slides/tube has been crushed. From the looks of it the rubber is still fresh. I'm curious if the rubber can be taken off and used on another slide without distroying it???
  5. i know i've seen it posted here, a dozen times, but does anyone know off the top of their head, what the part number is for a first gen carb diaphragm? i tried a simple search, and came up with nothing. maybe i used the wrong "phrase". just jt
  6. I noticed the other day that the 83 was smoking some on high rpm's sitting in the garage did some checking and found that my diaphragm's had pin holes except #4. Also checked the plugs all but #4 was trying to foul out - wet fuel. #4 excellent shape. diaphragm's that had pin holes also had traces of fuel in them except #4 which was dry. So what I'm asking is will a bad diaphragm cause the plugs to stay wet with fuel? #4 diaphragm is in good shape and the plug look great as well tan color. If not what would I be missing to cause the plugs to stay wet ? maybe float levels to high? plugs -caps-wires replaced first of last season - carbs synchronized What's funny is how well the beast runs too. good idle runs out good no dead spots just noticed it started smoking on high rpm- fuel. buddy
  7. While searching for causes for mileage being down from ~ 45-46 to 40-42 I noticed gas weakly spraying from the bottom port of #3 Vacuum piston at idle, the diaphragm has no visible tears and the float level is correct, the only ports that appear to go to the cover side of the diaphragm seem to be the purge jets. Any ideas what's happening here? Carbs are synched and compression is within 5# on all cyl. Thanks
  8. OK here goes. I was inquiring if anyone had a power loss from installing HD pipes on their RSV. Everyone was telling me that they experienced no loss of power just better sound. I kept changing pipes and still a loss of power and loss of top end. I found a set that seemed to bring my power back that came off a 05 HD Road King. Thought the problem was solved. Wrong. Well here is the tale of the tape so to speak. Changing pipes was not the only thing I changed. I also at this time added a set of the Yamaha Billet Carburetor Covers. Those who have installed these no where I'm going with this. The install requires you to remove two bolts from your carb diaphragm cover to use in the installation and replace them with the supplied bolts. There are two shims that fit into the diaphragm holes to secure the covers. Well....... You really should make sure that the shims are seated in the holes...... If you don't you create a huge opening for air to enter the carb from the outside, bypassing the air filter. The result is that when you twist the throttle full you create a vacuum in the carbs and the diaphragm gets sucked into the carb from the rush of the outside air. The tech working on my bike said that when the diaphragms got sucked in, I was then only getting fuel from two carbs instead of four to the cylinders. It turned out to be an easy fix. Re seat the diaphragms and realign the shims. Problem solved. Now I wont say who installed the carb covers or who might of forgot to check the diaphragm covers to make sure that they were tight. He will here from me ( I did it) later on this. Just as a side note... When I was trying to find out what was wrong with the power I took my bike up to 95MPH where it quit accelerating. Now think on that....... A V4 that will do 95MPH on two carbs into 4 cylinders and still be as fast as a Harley. :>) Moakster
  9. www.flatoutmotorcycles.com has the best pricing for slider diaphragms. $55.53 on website as of this morning. That is 20-30 bucks less than anyone else. Web order only, plus shipping. Their counter guys work off of comission, so if you order over the web, that's what you're saving. I live 10 miles from there. But if I order over the counter, they cost me $72.00!
