  1. So is anyone else annoyed by this! I go into the store to pick up a bike magazine hoping to find one that has some tips and tricks that I can use on my bike. I try V-twin because I know that they have a good mix of metric bikes. No luck. They really only have "chopper" style bikes and upgrades. Good magazine but not what I am looking for. I see one called called Sport rider but a quick glance through that one reveals exactly what I thought: it is dedicated exclusively to crotch rockets. Oh, there is one! It is called Baggers. Surely it has some articles on metric touring bikes. Well that's odd. After searching the pages, I now see it caters exclusively to Harley riders. Is there a magazine out there that I might be interested in? Are the only magazines out there only full of Harleys? Don't get me wrong, if you ride a Harley, I have nothing against you. That is what you like and that's fine but what about the rest of us that don't want a bike just like the guy down the street? Is there a magazine for us or are we out of luck? I ride with several guys (not to mention the ones from this site) that have non-Harley baggers and feel the same way I do. If there is not a magazine out there than I think that the magazine companies are missing a huge demagraphic. Hopefully they will tap into it some day. In the mean time, if someone knows of a magazine that they want to recomend, please do. Ok, my rant is done. Brent

  4. Rode up to the gas station to get fuel, not a soul at Bridgeton except for counter person.. She commented too about how quite it is.. Quite,, real quite, to quite,, somethings up... Rode back to hangout at corner, place is never without at least 4 sleds and always another gearhead to yack at - especially on a weekend nightnight like this.. Not a soul.. Rode over to the red barn on Apple Ave,, apparently everyone has abandoned the planet cause NO ONE is there.. Came home, called my daughter in Manhatten to see how Med School is going... Said she couldnt talk right now cause,,,, something about a bowling party with her friends from Queens or something.. Called my other daughter in Greenville SC and her roommate told me that she was at a Bowling party with her boyfriend.. Something REALLY strange about all this is I have never known my kids to be bowlers.. Yes,, I took them bowling a couple times when they were little but they never ever showed any sign of particularly liking the sport... hmmmmmm 'Puc
  5. What does the trans. dept. of your city/state use for lane dividers on the roads in your area? Here in Houston they use what are called "buttons". They are circular approx. 3", about 1/2 to 1" high in the center and made out of a ceramic I think. They use them where an exit ramp seperates from the main part of the road to divide the lanes. When they are wet, they are just like greased rocks. The problem is at exit ramps they put them in groups of 8-10 about 1' apart and you can't get between them with a bike. Doesn't affect cars as they have 4 wheels but they scare the you know what out of me. I called and got someone who actually understands what I was saying about those things when they are wet and the effect they have on motorcycles. He said that he will check on them as they now have an epoxy paint they can use instead. I know that wet paint is just about as bad, but not quite as these things are raised and rounded. Just wondering. Don H.
  6. To who ever is guilty. My neighbor just called and said the door is standing wide open on the old house at the camp again. No reason to break the door down I removed the lock just turn the knob. Please close the door when your done. I have neighbors that watch the place and I really don't want to be called out of bed again like tonight. If you want the old wood burner just take it. My back can't handle 600 lb any more. The electric has been turned off but the old refrigerator is good. So is the electric cook stove.I wouldn't want you to steal something that was broken. You could steal the copper wiring out of the house but it might be easier to see in the daylight. If your thinking about burning the place down that would save me some work. It will probably piss the wife off she is looking forward to taring the house down in the spring. Have a good day LAND OWNER!
  7. Hi everyone: Instead of writing to each one of you, I figure all of you will find this. I have been to Sumter, South Carolina, to a Yamaha Dealer called Extreme Motor Sports. I wish to say, these are some good everyday folks. I was greeted with a handshake and the service manger listened carefully to me, introduced me to several people, they head mechanic took Cricket for a spin. While they were out with my Bike I went into the front of the shop and everyone was courteous, just plain nice. Business is clean, shop is clean , organized and very professional. So if you have a situation with a Yamaha.......you sure could do worse than visit this dealer, this is a good one. A keeper. So yes Cricket was diagnosed with the perpetual clutch basket situation. I was told again that the I basket will not ever completely remove the chirp, but those they have done, it has been a help and so far everyone has been happy with the conversion. So my genuine I basket will be ordered today........I will be called when it is in and we can set up a time to conduct the transfer. So until this time.......I will really have no comment until the final result is realized. I wish to also say......the dealer has bent over backward to help me, he told me as I have to ride the bike over.....it can most likely be handled in one day........so I can arrive.......my wife or someone can pick me up, we can run around Sumter and go shopping, eat out.....whatever......and go home the same day. That is service folks, with a smile. What a relief.........I was about to totally give up on dealers. Will keep you posted.....this may take awhile......but that is cool, Cricket runs strong and true, she is past the break in....hit the interstate this morning and wound her up coming off the entrance ramp........I am quite sure no 1st Gen can ever catch her. :stirthepot: Kit
  8. Yesterday after several emails and phone calls I struck a verbal deal with a dealer in Coldwater MI for an 07 RSV blue/raven for $13,679 plus a doc fee of $160 and tax or course. Now this was contingent to financing which was no problem. I have a fraud alert system on my credit so that no can look at it without my permission. After getting approved I called the dealer several hours later to see where things were at. The salesman had NO idea and said he was waiting on a fax from the fraud system that on my credit. So that was yesterday. Now move foward to today. At about 10:00 I called the salesman to again to see where things were. Guess what, he again had no idea and said he was still waiting for a fax. Well I had to go watch my daughter soccer game which was over at 15:00. I called him back just to hear him say he was waiting for the fax. At this point as you can guess I'm getting a little steamed. I asked him what kind of fax are you waiting for and what can I do to help. He say's I'm waiting for a fax to see if I was approved. I explained to him I was approved yesterday and that he shound have know this. He tells me he would get with the F&I guy and call be right back, which he did to tell me I was approved (no kidding). He then wants my credit card number to hold the bike. Before I would give him the number I of course wanted to know what the terms were that the F&I guy had come up with, well he had no idea. I had to leave to go to work and told him I would call back when I got to work to see what the terms were. I called him back at 17:45 to hear him say he did not know the terms but I could speak with the F&I guy to get them. So the F&I guy got on the phone to tell me he was able to get me a $212mo payment. Well ok that about what I was looking for. Now for the terms. 96 month at 9.99% ya right like I'm going to do this. I'm like "you got to be kidding me". I explained to him according to my math and my credit score of almost 800 I should be able to do 72 mo at 7.99 with a payment of just under $200 with my down payment several grand. So he re does the math at 72 7.99% and comes up with around $250 mo. I then ask him how much $$ he was trying to finance, thinking he foget about my down payment. $15,461 was his number. Why so much you ask when the sale price was $13,679. Heres why $425 frt fee, and $372 set up and a few other charges. And thats not the clincher the bike a several 1000 mile on it the the salesman forgot to tell me about. Needless to say I killed the deal on the spot. I thinks I'll go test ride a goldwing next week.
  9. Eck, just a note of warning for you and everyone East of the Mississsippi, L.A. Pryor is on the move. Left my house at 4:30 this morning heading your way. Get the coffee pot started. You may have to make him shave that scraggly thing he called a beard off before you let him around the family. I would have, but I was just too tired.:rotf::rotf: I got a two hour nap while he and Pat talked and then we all went to sleep. Good Luck
  10. Well, having ordered a set of 491s from Cycle Gear and waiting 3 weeks with no show, I decided it was time to try something else. Shoping the tire stores around here, most only carried the Metzlers in the sizes I need. Most of the dealers really push the Metz and praise them to the max. Just about fell for the sales deal, but went back and reviewed all the comments about the 880s and thought better of it. Checked around for the Michelins with no luck until I called my buddy at Southvalley Motorsports, and sure enough old Jay came through again. A brand new pair of Commanders with my name on'em. The reviews are great on the Commanders, but I haven't read about anybody running them on a 1st Gen. Anyone ride them? What do you think? I'll be trying to wear some out soon. Thanks DJ :mo money:
  11. Well, I took my bike into the dealer to have the clutch whine checked out and hopefully have it covered under warranty. After the dealer had it for 5 days they called me back and told me that Yamaha won't replace the clutch basket. Hearing this and reading the prior threads on the forum I called Yamaha customer service. In short, they are doing NOTHING to help me out. I even said to them, "So let me get this right, Yamaha's position is to do nothing in this situation - even though the company has paid to have this situation addressed previously." The customer service person agreed with my statement. Between the clutch whine and the HORRIBLE wobble in the front end (the dealer stated everything was tight and up to specs - even the tire balanced out perfectly) my enjoyment of riding this bike is going south very fast. Just a B*%&H sesstion here. Hope everyone's Venture is whine and wobble free.
  12. This past sunday I was riding my bike home from my dad's and I had the front right spark plug blow out of the cylinder. After talking to squidley, he said that we can heli coil it. So I went in search of info of what I need to do... and I came across a product called Time-Sert. I wanted to find out if anyone here has had experience with this product and what their opinions are compared to HeliCoil.
