I went to get my son from school again today on my 1999 RSV (58,000 miles). My clutch kept slipping really bad today. It done this on the way there and back. I bought this bike back in August of last year and it didn't start this until this year. I changed the oil in it last month before I did any riding. I used Mobil 1 racing 4T fully synthetic 10w-40. I bleed most of the black fluid out of the reserve and put fresh in it. It looked pretty clear in the clear hose I was using. Do I need to keep trying to bleed it or what? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks hairman

I'm looking to order a set of speed bleeders for my 2nd Gen. Is the clutch bleed screw the same size as the brake bleed screws? And are the brake bleed screws M8X1.25"? I could, I suppose, pull them and compare them but I would like to only have to pull them once...this winter:)

Yep the Squid did it again. He has helped out another Venture Rider in distress. He stopped by on his way home from work and showed me how to back bleed my clutch and get it going again. I say thank you Squidley and I hope you had a great ride home. Maybe your not there yet but again I say thank you.

Ok, this is where I am. I have rebuilt all 3 brake calipers and the rear master cylinder. After plenty of bleeding, both the bike and me, I finally got the blasted thing to hold pressure. Went for a quick test run and everything was going fine and then the darn brakes locked and would not let go. I pulled out the ol` wrench and bleed of the rear and wamo`, I was off again. Did a few laps around the pond and then they where dragging again. This time I bleed of the left front, and then I was off again. OK, I check the rear master cylinder, made sure the little hole was clear, and tried it again. After several goes, sure enough they started dragging again….. So what do I do now? You guys have been a wealth of info and anymore would be great!!!!! Oh Yea, if it helps I have a 1985 VR. and the right brake (front) is working just fine.

After having gone thru all of the hair pulling and discussion of this particular parts ancestery I finally got the the brake bled!! The problem started out as a simple pad replacement which proceeded to go south at a very rapid rate and ended up in my having to take the caliper off and to the mech to replace the seals which decided that this was the time to give up the ghost. After getting the caliper back and the new pads installed and the caliper mounted, I started to bleed the brake, (right front). Now this is where the hair pulling and dicussing the caliper's ancestery began. I tried the regular way of pumping the brake handle with the bleeder screw closed with no success. Aha, I thought. I will go to the Venture site and do a search to find out how to bleed the brakes. I found and tried the reverse bleeding method, again with no success. Now this was beginning to take on all of the aspects of a 3 ring circus! So, I thought why not try the reverse bleeding method again but with a minor modification. Instead of filling a bottle and holding it up like a IV bottle, why not use a 60cc syringe which I had in my tool box. Btw, my daughter is a nurse at a local hospital and she got me a couple of these. If you are a nurse or know one, get a couple of these and keep in your tool box, they are handy as a third hand. But I digress. It worked GREAT!!!! This way you can use pressure to reverse bleed and it only took about 20 minutes to fully complete the job and have a good hard brake handle. Don H.

I have read numerous posts on bleeding the clutch but none tell exactly how. My question is this: Do you just bleed it like a brake line? I saw a thing on reverse bleeding but I do not have a pump to do that with. I there another way to reverse bleed. I have bled the brakes on many different cars, bikes and even a tractor or two but never have done a clutch. Any help would be...um...helpful. Thanks

Ok, I know this has been explained here before. I put a kit in the clutch master cylinder on my 89VR thursday. I couldnt get it to bleed so I tried gravity bleed thursday night.-No such luck. I cannot get the thing to bleed. I filled line by removing bleed screw then filled until no bubbles just air comes out of hole. put screw back. When I pull handle with no line on it and my finger over the hole, I have very little pressure. It actually seems to have more when I release the handle as it gets pretty good suction. Anyways, when I hook it all together and pump the handle, when I hold in handle and open screw, I get about an inch and a half of fluid into bleeder line. Close screw, pumphandle some, open screw, I get about a quarter inch of fluid in line. close bleeder. Release handle and pump again, this time I get nothing. Am I not holding my mouth right here or what.
