If it's all there it can be repaired / rebuilt. Heck even if it's not all there. In G Flex I trust.

Probably back to gun control. Or space aliens.

Finally got out today. The last thing I did before going to bed was attach the patch.

80 degrees outside and I still need to pull my choke !
JohnT replied to AngryAmish's topic in Watering Hole
After a certain age bikes and riders share some similar traits. They all need different,,,motivation, from one another. Some more, some less,,um oh yeah, I'm talking about choke. Bike choke. I actually haven't had to use mine lately. Of course overnight lows have been well into the 60's. -

A fairly fat line that goes from the corner of the airbox to a fitting out of the base between the front and rear cylinders? The same fitting has another line that goes up, over and between the rear cylinders. Then I don't get it. I shut it down running fine. (Well I thought fine. It really rocks now compared to before.) Found that hose while fixing the plastic. Bike hadn't been running. When I fired it, 2500 RPM idle. Wouldn't be the first time that I "whacked" something whilst fixing something else though.

Snaggletooth, that is simply a deal you can't pass on. 170,000 on a quality import is chump change for mileage. With care, and no road salt, there is at least another 150,000 miles in that Infiniti. Had a 93 Cutlass that I loved. Might still be driving it if it weren't for NY road salt. I had 187,000 on that car and it ran like a top. Rode and handled well too. The only issue I had with that car other than the salt cancer was quirky. In the rain the electric trunk release would release all on it's own. Not often, but once and again. And when it did it the dome light would also come on. I guess to let me know my trunk was open?

Dude, LMAO, that is the first thing that happened. A double shot, as in shot glass (where did that come from?) and a top of of fresh fuel. No help . But he rocks now.

First off, reddevilmedic and skydoc, thanks for the guidance and the very kind offer to synch the carbs and feed me ta-boot. It would be a 7 hour ride each way and the other Yamaha dealer in my area got me right in. I dropped it off, walked to my D.O.T. physical, and it was ready when I walked back in. I will happily take you up on a burger sometime though skydoc. All I can figure is that it was never, never right when done by the other dealer. The dealer that over filled my oil when they did the oil change may not have noticed the loose vacuum line. Run different? As in there is now a very thin black stripe across almost 4 lanes of an intersection in Watertown NY. No clutch help, just right wrist. It has never, and I mean never run as good as it does right now. Am I dreaming? Or can these things pull the front wheel? 2nd Gen riders take heart. Any of us 1st Gen folk will be happy to show you this level of performance.

Just sick, want to cry. Going to have a shot and a beer instead
JohnT replied to JohnT's topic in Watering Hole
As Flyinfool mentioned the fluid does indeed soak in and continue to destroy for awhile. I got another hole in the fairing where the left end of the bag hanger was through the fairing. So I carved out around it with a knife and then a dremel. I have not final finished th repair (paint prep) and will hold off till I am sure the damage has stopped spreading. Big Lou mentioned wiring. Which may explain why my driving lights are suddenly suspect. I pulled the fuse till I can check / rep;ace / reroute the wiring for them. On the positive side of things. I sanded the interior of the fairing, then painted it with a coating of G-Flex. I saturated a piece of fiberglass cloth (that I had cut to fit the interior contour) with G-Flex and put it in place on the inside of the fairing. The next day I appied another layer of G-Flex to the outside. And then just a bit more to get it to sanding height. G-Flex is odd in that the thicker you apply it the better it cures. The following day I sanded the repair, drilled the holes for the bag hanger and the snap for the bag and put everything together. So far so good. No new ABS rot and a solid repair. I still have to rebuild the lower. It cracked in half where it runs along the frame tube. And build / rebuild a few mounting tabs. But for now it is ride-able and doesn't even look bad, with the bag in place. I can't speak highly enough of G-Flex. Great stuff. -
1stGen Fork braces are now available
JohnT replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
O.K. got to ride it today finally. My impression of the fork brace is this. The difference is subtle, but amazing at the same time. A very rock solid improvement in handling. -
I don't get to ride to work, ever. I'[m just not leaving the VR in the parking lot at work for 2 nights and 3 days whilst I'm gone. Not a nice neighborhood. The wind whistles around the door of my car. Thanks to a break and enter. Window frame is sprung a bit. I now leave it empty and unlocked.

Every state is going to get their money. So much from each and every working stiff out here. Millions on Welfare are depending on us. And the politicians need their money and stuff. We may not get raped to register our vehicles, but try living in NY State. :mo money:WHOOPEE!!!

Mine were waiting on the table when I got home. Really, really nice. Thanks

Hey guys, just got up for work. Woke up a 3:15, about 45 minutes early. I got to thinking that I was about 1 turn or so counter clockwise so when I put my cooler in the car I went into the shed and turned the screw about a turn clockwise. I was never so happy to have my bike idle at 2300 ever before. So I then got it down to about 1000, this time using the throttle stop instead of a synch screw. It still smells a bit rich but now with the vacuum line attached to the air box (which I guess it wasn't before) I have to assume they need to be adjusted and or synched. Skydoc, thanks for the offer and I just may take you up on it. I'd like to start meeting other VR riders. Your zip is just a bit west of an area I drove through week after week for almost 1 1/2 years. Lancaster to York to Harrisburg then up to Muncy on my way back to home. Every time I drove up 15 I wished I were on my bike instead of a 26' box truck. I deliver to A.C. Moore stores. Now I'm off to Mass., N.H., R.I., Conn. and back home Wednesday. Thanks guys.

Yes there is an antenna adjustment. It's called SWR (signal wave ratio?) It is simple but requires a SWR meter to do it. Can be bought at Radio Shack or some truck stops. Or there are radio shops that will do it or a small fee

[ Nuff said? Oh well, it's only right? So I guess I best get it in for a carb synch now. Seeing as I have been back and forth with that synch screw like a mad man. On the bright side. The more I tinker the more I feel like tinkering. Now if I can just learn as I go it will all be good. The screw I was turning was just to the right of the "cam" the throttle cable attaches to. I assume, now, that that is the synch screw for the rear carb?
-
So, just went out and started the bike to take another crack at idle adjustment. Now it won't idle, idles low unless I apply throttle. WTHeck? If the carbs were "synched and adjusted" with the vacuum line to the air box unhooked would that mess up the adjustment. (now that the line is connected it started idling badly) Car synch and adjustment was dome by the same dealer I never went back to due to iffy idling and an over filled oil change last year if that might matter. Worst case scenario I may have to try the other Yamaha dealer that is local. I want to ride sometime soon,,,,,

The tape is a good idea. I might put it on both sides. If I were going to try it I would drill nearly all the way through. When the bit marks the tape on the back side I would then use that for a pilot mark to drill in the other direction. Plastics are not nearly as fragile to drill as glass. They tend to just chip instead of crack. Your mileage may vary. Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear. Yada, yada, yada,,,,,

Well, while pulling plastic to clean and repair my brake fluid leakage damage to plastic I either dislocated the vacuum hose to the air box, or it was never hooked up to begin with. So I found the nipple on the air box and hooked the hose to it. Now the bike idles at 2500 RPM or so and no matter what direction I turn the throttle stop screw it only goes higher? I'm lost. Any guidance is appreciated. And if there is any information I can give to help with advice, just let me now what you need to know. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I've heard of painting one self into a corner, but,,,,, And to be honest. No way I'm calling for help if that was me. I'm going to shinny down or die trying. I mess up all the time, but I have some pride. And, doesn't pride "goeth before the fall"?

Gen I amp and speakers free for the asking
JohnT replied to alfa4door's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
And if anyone else is looking for / needing pretty much the same thing. It all worked, as well as can be expected for a 26 year old cassette stereo. If you want it, you can have it. All of it except the wiring that is in the harness of the bike. And I kept the antenna. Behind a real stereo it actually works quite well. I was going to just toss it all, so one wire is cut. The one to the handlebar controller. It's in the Watertown NY area, or I will be at Pioneer in August. Or I can ship it if you cover shipping cost. I installed a Clarion CMS 1 remote amp with controller and 4 Polk Audio 4" speakers in the dash. When I have the electrical power to run it I am adding a Clarion amp to the mix. -

I am off to strap myself into a tiny plastic boat and do a white water fish survey. Nothing like ending up upside down in a kayak and counting fish and rock hits while trying to return to an upright position. (My combat roll is less than stellar) :rotf: And once my plastic stops dissolving and I get it repaired I have an inflatable whitewater boat and a break down paddle so I can combine 2 of my 3 most fun things on this earth. I will ride my VR to go white water kayaking.
