  1. Okay I sprayed my carbs while running with carb cleaner and the idle went up , ASSUMING that's a vacuum leak HOW DO YOU FIND IT ?? You have to remove tank and air intake and hoses to get at carbs so WHAT DO I LOOK FOR???????
  2. wrong area post
  3. I just spoke to a Dealer the other day because of knock I'm hearing and thinking it was the valves needing adjusting the first thing out of his mouth was USUALLY He never needs to adjust those until about 100K on bike Claims Factory adjustment on those is to the TIGHT side and Rarely if at all do they need adjustment until 100 K and IF A SERVICE MANAGER is turning away work and being honest ya know it must be true
  4. Here's a link to just a steel adapter for jack looks to be the same as carbon one minus the independent stand which looks to be a nice feature i just happen to have a jack that can't tip it's a stand jack combination but no matter what YOU NEED AN ADAPTER OF SOME SORT http://www.ebay.com/itm/261035933296?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  5. Okay i did exactly as you instructed and the idle INCREASED a great deal when I sprayed 1 carb and just a little on another both front carbs
  6. In the past 2 years I've bought and sold 20 motorcycles (not a dealer, kind of a hobby with profit) 4 Ventures 1999, 2000, 2003, 2001 2 tour deluxe 2007,2005 and 3 royal Stars 1996,and 2 1997 all Florida bikes 2 I have now 1997 Royal Star that was left outside from Pompano Beach, and a 2005 Tour deluxe from Panama city Beach . I've yet to see a clear coat peel on any of them as a matter of fact the paint is the normally the BEST thing about them. So my first doubt about the bike would be to the mileage. Verify it. Check the brake pads they should be damn near new. All the hoses underneath the gas tank should be fine , I mean think about it the heat shouldn't effect them at all, engine heat doesn't and they're under neath in the shade the of bike....... The bike should have the original tires on it, check the date on the tires, check the wear on the handle grips rear brake pedal shifter, all switches they should all be in new condition . What should show signs of age are the brake and clutch reservoirs they're aluminum and the first thing to corrode. as far as pricing I won't even guess, use NADA and KBB to get an IDEA of what it's worth and believe me nothing is bringing top price and I mean NOTHING and USE YOUR HEAD not YOUR HEART when buying. A good deal on something is what YOU FEEL is fair not what some one else thinks, and look at the bike add up everything you're gonna do to it total it and then ask your self if you saw that bike with all the ad ons and new paint would you have paid that much for it originally. I just bought a 2005 Tour deluxe it's a 9 out of 10 I have receipts from original owner who spent in 2005 $1300 in chrome ad ons the bike has 18K miles new whitewalls and I paid $3500 NADA says $6800 and KBB TRADE IN is $4600 and it's got $1300 in chrome extras SO DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!!!! AND GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I own a 2005 and a 1997 BIG difference Air shocks, electronic cruise, and HP , tank size weight. Also I believe in 1999 they went to the 4 into 2 exhaust in the tour deluxe model where as in 96 ,97,98 they were a 4 into 4. I beleive in 1999 the Venture has a differnt mounted engine with upper brackets and 98 HP but the tour deluxe has it without upper brackets and the 73HP engine. Also in 1997 they had a Palomino edition hat was all pearl white with palomino bags an seats. email me at garyboehm1@gmail.com i owned a 96,and 2 1997s one was the Palomino I'll send you pictures won't load here. I've got the 1997 for sale
  8. COULD YOU BE A BIT MORE SPECIFIC I'M ONE OF THOSE GUYS THAT DOESN'T KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT BUT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS VERY WELL . REMEMBER TO GET AT CARBS FUEL TANK AND AIR INTAKE HAS TO COME OFF AND TO GET THE AIR INTAKE OFF YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE FUEL AND VACUUM LINES SO HOW DO i GO ABOUT THIS?? EITHER TESTING??
  9. where was the kink and how did you find it??
  10. I choke the bike and it starts needs to warm up quite a bit then will idle then the idle starts to get higher and higher and will not go down PERIOD even though the choke is all the way in , at least i think it is you can't really tell with out removing the tank and all the carb breather hoses etc.. I turn down the idle but every now and then either a carb is closing or the choke is backing off because the idle is to low making me believe either a carb or choke is sticking open or something like that making it idle high the way it is I don't have to give it any throttle in 1st or 2nd gear ANY IDEAS>>>>>
  11. I run mobil 20-50 but I've been doing a hell of a lot of research again and for the money Valvoline (motorcycle 4 stroke) synthetic 20-50 is a deal and DON"T change it every 3000 miles it does not and I repeat it does not start breaking down until about 5000 miles PERIOD. Amsoil is the Best for this reason ALL motorcycle companies will void your waranty if you use Mobil 1 Valvoline, quaker , etc... but Honda, Harley, Yamaha will still honor warrany if you use AMSOIL AMSOIL is no doubt the very best but at $12 a quart I can do 2 oil changes with the others and I don't keep a bike for more than a year or so many times less. Tires are personal preference and DEPENDS HOW YOU RIDE and WHERE YOU RIDE Hot are cold area humid area dry area with dusty roads do you ride a lot in early morning when humidity makes roads damp or late at night same thing. Avons in the rain stick like glue Dunlops work great on dry pavement but I don't like them in the rain Shinko makes a hard tire and rides hard but handles great so...................???????????????????
  12. There's a 3 day bike weekend in Leesburg Florida That is far better and no cars allowed on the main strip also it's said to be the largest "RIDE IN" bike fest in Florida. Down town is about a mile long and you ride in, easy to park within a block and spend a few hours and ride out. Everthing is down town with easy access to main stage which is the courtyard of the city hall or courthouse not sure which. Also the riding in the area is great a lot of winding roads rolling country land with huge pastures because of many horse farms. It's in April. No spring breakers . You guys in the North this is an Ideal ride in. Hotels aren't expensive it's only about 45 Minutes NW of Orlando. It's a real clean old style Florida town. Also it's before the rainy season but at night ya got those pesky Love bugs, little black flying harmless critters that stick to your windshield like crazy glue.........
  13. Well first time at bike week and I gotta say NOTHING SPECIAL. I rode over there on thursday got there 8 AM and the place was like a ghost town. I was the on the bike parked across from Froggies right down town on main street. I took off riding around for a while and nothing was going on any where. . I drove up A1A past Ormond beach and then back to down town and was able to park right across from Froggies again . Things were getting crowded but really nothing to do there but watch a bunch of hot dogs gun their bikes as they go by and they allow cars to go through there to causing a LOT of back up traffic . I went across the intercoastal and not much set up there either they were just starting to set up band stage and if you want to stop and look around at vendors it's $7 to park All the bike dealers are set up at the Race track about 5 miles out of town Yamaha , Honda etc.....Then if you want to go back down town it's crowded and ya gotta pay to park again. I've ridden over to dayton a dozen times before and i gotta tell you the economic times have hit there quite s few boarded up busines, gas stations and small motels restaurants etc. I'm sure it gets hoppin' at night but really seemed slow for for a place that usually gets a few hundred thousand people. I drove back about 2PM and maybe saw 30 bikes on the 150 mile trip riding towards Daytona. Hell in years past on my way to Orlando I'd see that many Harleys broke down on the side of the rode during bike week:rotf:. Guess I'm getting to old but it just seemed kind of BLAH!!
  14. 1997 Royal Star I've taken off the rear seat back rest and saddle bags making it look like a solo ride. The problem is I took the back rest chrome off leaving the sides of the rear fender with 2 open holes I've seen the chrome eye brows ( chrome strip on either side of rear fender) on road star that go there but I've searched under that and can't find them any where is for any thing!! is there another name for them???
  15. Hey Thanks!!!!!!! Just ordered on line here in Tampa Florida . You can go 2 ways get 15% off $76.49 CODE MA15 and they give you a $25 coupon off next $50 purchase or get it for the 30% off using the VISA code $69.25 the core charge is still there I believe, because the math in't right for 30% discount (89.99 - 30% = 62.99 ) so I'll find out when I go to store to pick up battery.
  16. So far I think YOU might be on to something. It's not a venture but Yamaha has utilized many of the same parts in a lot of different models. After testing most everything I put a charger on the battery to make sure it was at full capacity . I then went out about 2 hrs later and started the bike up( charger showed battery fully charged) the lights came on. after about a minute they went out, thats when I thought maybe a short or a loose connection and wiggled all the wires . I guess I'll just start from square one tomorrow
  17. EVERY THING as far as connections are PERFECT ZERO corrosion that was the first thing I checked
  18. Hey thanks for the input but this is a 1997 royal star, no lighter just that the light set up is basically the same as venture , I had a 2004 1700 roadstar and the factory wiring for that was the same as the 1997
  19. T answer the dumb question first yes the lights work I just went out to do the voltage test and believe it or not they came on when I started the bike. stayed on briefly then went out so I wiggled wires tapped on case etc and nothing. Now I'm thinking a short or maybe a FAULTY fuse
  20. EXACTLY you are understanding me right!!! Continuity but no power!!! So I'm going to try to check voltage I've never done that so I'm assuming red prong to power wire and black to negative point and set VM to any voltage at 12 or under
  21. Yes I've checked the continuity with switch open an closed it works and yes I checked the connection in the headlight it looks as though this was a factory connection not an after market connection all wiring looks brand new no corrosion and I guess what i really need to know is how do I check to see if there is power to that line that's connected to the lamps from the connection in the headlight. Also where does that power come from I've looked at fuse box every fuse pulled and checked and nothing loose I'm baffled
  22. 1997 Royal star I have checked continuity and everything is a go from the main headlight wire fuse and all switch works everythin. but I can't seem to be getting any power to them and I don't know how to check for power also all fuses are perfect and ther is ZERO and I mean ZERO corrosian some rich guy owned this and it was kepst in a heated garage up north and a temp controlled carpeted one in Naples florida wires connection are all LIKE NEW HELP!!! the service manual has nothing on passing lights
  23. I found this posted on the STARCRUISER web site So I guess they were a limited paint scheme. I looked for a painter while the buying and selling was in high gear. I inquired at local paint and body shops, but never got a warm fuzzy about any of them. The local shops seemed to be unjustifiably expensive, so I turned my search to out-of-town sources. I finally settled on Andrew Preston, the painting expert at Bushtec Trailers in Jacksboro, Tennessee. A few years earlier, Yamaha had contracted with Andrew to custom paint 85 Royal Stars in an ivory pearl color for the one-time offering of the "Palomino" model. I figured if he was good enough for Yamaha, he was good enough for me.
  24. Beleive it or not I've actually found 2 of these the one with the custom tank paint and one thats original
  25. 1997 Royal Star "PALOMINO EDITION" Has anyone ever heard of this model/ I found one and the guy has a receipt CLAIMING that it sold brand new in 1997 for GET THIS!! $21,833 TT&T !!! AND he sent me a pic of the receipt and looks real but I just find it very hard to beleive
