  2. You guys certainly go for the big guns. I guess I'd prefer a small gun in my pocket instead of a 9mm sitting at home (I have both). Keltec makes some low cost, simple guns which seem to always work. Their P3AT is my CC choice: https://www.keltecweapons.com/firearms/pistols/p3at/ I like their lack of complications - pull the trigger and it fires. Plus it easily fits into a pocket. I have a little plastic holder just to keep it oriented handle up in my pocket for easy retrieval. zag
  3. Leg protection is something many riders kinda ignore. They figure blue jeans are good enough and leathers are often much to hot. Many years ago I came off a bike with jeans on and one knee was very torn up. Pretty painful getting big cuts sewn shut. I came across this stuff quite a few years ago. https://www.dragginjeans.com/categories/underwear.html Kevlar is tough stuff and the cloth weave is open enough so you don't bake. Years ago you could only get blue jeans with this kevlar in the knees and butt. I bought a pair, but after a few years, the jeans part was worn out and the kevlar bits on the inside were completely fine. Now they offer the kevlar liner (and socks) that you put on like long johns and then you wear whatever pants you like. Haven't ever crashed with them so I cannot say for sure - however, they should hold up in a sliding type smackup. I guess this is just preparation for something you hope never happens. I also wear a helmet, gloves, boots, etc. and have never tested anything on the asphalt. zag
  4. My old bike had lots of rust and junk in the tank which I managed to clean out. The next step was to protect the inside surface of the tank. I used some stuff called Red-Kote which puts a protective surface on the inside of the tank. Ebay has a good selection. As I recall, I diluted it with MEK to help it flow onto all of the tank surfaces since it is pretty thick if you try to apply it directly from the can. zag
  5. Just so ya know, I've got two compete front fork assemblies. Completely rebuilt. Extended length, however. 42" from end to end. Of course the axle sits up a bit. These were built for an '83 but might be the same as other years. Just thought you might be interested. zag
  6. Hey, the 1st gen is pretty much the Vmax without the boost valves. I added the boost valves and it has plenty of gittyup. Just so ya know. zag
  7. Maybe you should measure the bolts you just removed. Or am I missing something? zag
  8. OK, so what is WW and WWW? My imagination has run dry. zag
  9. Geesh. You certainly have lots of words type out! zag
  10. Years ago I decided to see which tires lastest the longest on my bike. Shinko's were the cheapest and had the lowest life. Adding in the cost of mounting and balancing, I finally chose to stick with Metzeler. A long life tire. zag
  11. Personally, I'm gonna choose flatblack. zag
  12. Wish zagger would chime in here,, I think his "Frankenstien" chopper has a V-Max top end stuffed into it or,, maybe it was just a V-Boost mod.. Zag? Hey guys. I have an 83 venture where I mounted the Vmax boost valves when I was rebuilding everything. The boost valves double the air and gas to each cylinder. Mine are operated with a bicycle shifter mounted at the end of my left handlebar. Maybe I don't ride hard enough or something - but the boost valves don't add that much unless you are fully on it. However, for just general riding around, the engine definitely benefits from cracking the valves open just a little. Since I use a bicycle shifter to operate the valves, one "click" is enough to make the engine happy. My venture is quite fast - once I came up on a line of Harley's on a back road and was going about 120mph by the time I passed the last one. I originally got a venture due to the under seat gas tank. It is a heavy bike and having the weight sitting low in the bike certainly helps with the overall feeling of weight. zag
  13. Personally, I like the Mossberg 590. https://www.mossberg.com/firearms/shotguns/ Although the magazine tube is quite long, you can even double the capacity by using the new buckshot "mini-shells" made by Aguila. I couldn't find a local store that stocked those shells but I was able to order them online. https://www.aguilaammo.com/ammunition/category/shotshell/minishell/ I store my shotgun in a V-line locking case which is flat enough to fit under a bed. If you have kids living with you, the case can be locked shut - or you can leave it unlocked if you feel safe with that. https://www.vlineind.com/shop/shotgun-case-home-defense-shotgun-safe/ Bottom line is that even crazy people don't argue with a shotgun! zag PS I forgot to mention that you need a little adapter if you want to use the Aguila mini-shells. Not a big deal to snap it in place, but the shells won't cycle properly without it. PPS It has been a few years, but as I recall, purchasing a gun online is not a problem but it has to be shipped to a local gun dealer where they can check your ID, etc. As I recall, the dealer charged me $25 to handle the paperwork.
  14. Geesh. Gotta love Canada and the ruling elite. They are just so gosh darn smart. zag
  15. Several years ago I was riding on a small back road in Wisconsin and a deer dashed across the road and jumped over the front wheel on my bike and just missed being hit by the windshield. A VERY close call. I didn't have any time to react in any way since the brush he came from was right beside the road. There was still a tiny amount of air between us and then he was gone. Never even hit the brakes or anything. Ya just never know! zag
  16. I'm gonna guess that you don't need to walk dogs. Gets messy pretty fast. zag
  17. Ordered some stuff a month ago and haven't seen anything. Who knows. zag
  18. Pressure washers are a good way to trash mechanical/electrical stuff. Used to build lots of waterproof hydraulic controls for firetrucks and had numbskulls destroy them with high pressure sprays which blasted past the normal waterproof seals. zag
  19. Since you are installing lots of Vmax hardware, you might want to consider putting in a set of the Vmax boost valves. I did this and operate them with a bicycle shift lever which has 5 "clicks" from closed to fully open. The bike does seem to enjoy running on "1 click" which means that all four valves are just slightly opened. Since I didn't do any engine mods which would help consume the extra gas and air, fully opening the valves doesn't really do very much. The main problem for installation is that these valves raise the carb height by a couple of inches. On my bike, that didn't matter since I don't have anything above them besides the individual air filters. Just something to consider. zag
  20. I also used Red-Kote to line the inside of my gas tanks. My Honda Sabre 1100 has two extra tanks that I made to extend the range on long trips and both needed Red-Kote to protect the bare metal inside of the tanks. It is good stuff but a little thick coming straight from the can. I diluted it a somewhat with a solvent (the can says to use methyl ethyl ketone(MEK) or acetone) so that it would flow easily into all of the small, tight areas. Then I let it vent for awhile to let it set up solidly. I did this about 10 years ago and everything is still good. zag
  21. Watched the vid and was impressed. I was ready to see about getting a Corvair but discovered that they aren't made anymore. WTF? zag
  22. I don't want to offend any of you motorcycling folks with comments about our obvious international situation. So I will just stop all posts from now on. Good luck to you guys. Out of here. zag
  23. Hard to see how anything could be safer for gasoline than a milk jug tied to the side of the bike. Of course, good luck does play a role. zag
  24. Total protection. zag
  25. CDC (Center for Disease Control) sent out Corona Virus test kits that were already tainted with the virus. You just couldn't make this stuff up. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3837858/posts zag
