  1. I bought mine in January for $3,600.00. Another guy bought a bike in May for $4k
  2. Great overnight trip Friday/Saturday to Southern Utah over Boulder Mountain and the Hog's Back (1.5 miles along the ridgetop with drop offs on both sides), then it gets steep and more curvy! Further down we pass by (didn't stop this time) Bryce Natl Park and out through Red Rock Canyon. Hwy 12 is a Scenic Highway and has some fantastic views....good thing I had the photographer on the back so I could pay attention to the road, most of the time. http://s470.photobucket.com/user/utadventure/library/Hogs%20Back%20Boulder%20Aug%202014?sort=3&page=1 I still think Bear Tooth Pass has it beat, but not by much.....I'm going to go check it out in September, just to be sure.   3. I bought both a batting glove for each hand, tight fit, breathable. To reduce hand fatigue, I love having a throttle rocker on the handgrip.
  4. When maintaining by bike, I've always tried to listen to the bike. Thursday evening when I went to gas up the bike before our Friday/Saturday trip to southern Utah, I was used to hearing a little bit a of the rear brake rubbing but the sound changed. I decided I should take a look before we left. When I pulled the rear caliper, the pad had worn through and was just starting to rub the metal. I had a spare set of pads and after installing them, we were ready to go. It was great to have the rear brakes working properly as we drove through the mountains. Glad I was listening. Had a fantastic trip, 685 miles later. I also need to thank someone here for the tip of putting a loop in a drain line to change out the brake fluid. Did the front brakes, not bad.....did the clutch, WOW, it was dark. I just wish I had the pictures Jan took.
  5. take the temp of the header pipe of each cylinder with a laser temp gauge. That should tell you which cylinder you have to pay attention to.

  10. Thanks for the lead! Any chance you have an audio file after you repacked them?
  11. I would suspect that the radio system would work with or without the handlebar controller. Make sure non of the wires are making contact with ground or another wire. You may also have one or more buttons on the radio stuck down. Dave
  12. Craig Higher octane may help some. Octane is designed to delay ignition of the fuel until designed compression is achieved. With the higher altitude, greater compression might help with power and speed. Dave
  13. Bob Myers from KY road out to SLC a few years back and stopped by. When he got to my place he could disengage the clutch. We suspected the altitude had affected the clutch fluid and after bleeding the line, all went back to normal. With the upcoming change in altitude, I would recommend a fluid change for all the hydraulics. Dave
  14. In the history section of the VR.org there are specs on the different Ventures. Under tires is will show the size and load rating. The load rating on the 1st Gen MKII is 65H for the front and 71H for the rear, if I remember correctly. Dave

  16. I've never repacked mufflers before. Did you find a good source for the ceramic packing material?
  17. Thanks for the great lead. Not the 4 pipe Nasty Boys but the Baron's Bag Slash! Now, to see if I can tone them down by wrapping the baffles or get the tone I want with replacement baffles. Dave

  19. The PO had a set of loud pipes on the bike when I bought it. I put the stock mufflers on the bike on Saturday. I've looked all over the loud pipes and can't find anything to identify them. Surprising but I find nothing. Here's what I know: They are slip-ons, they have a mount that matches up to the RSV muffler mount under the saddlebags, they have two (2) SAE allen head screws in the tail section (I assume for removal of the baffle). The loud mufflers, I can see through completely. I'm thinking that they might be great if I repack the baffles. If someone knows what brand they are, I can likely find a sound clip and decide if it's worth the effort. Wondering minds want to know........ (wondering not wandering)
  20. Had a great time yesterday. Thanks for the invite!! Jan is still skiddish on twisties since she went down a few years ago, so, if we are going through the mountains (hard not to do in Utah) she is preferring to ride with me more and more. Plus, by the time we take two bikes, we use as much gas as the car does. You understand that!
