wiring suggestions please. USB charging port
M61A1MECH replied to Thee_oddball's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I do not know if there are any ignition switched power sources with connectors close to the trunk. I do not have a Venture any more so I cannot investigate to find a suitable source of power. I make a breakout harness that plugs in under the seat to access the rear lighting circuits, the tail light circuit has constant power that is switched with the ignition. There are bullet connectors in the triable shaped housing behind the license plate you can access the tail light circuit and ground there, but I am not sure there is an elegant way to get wires from behind the license plate into the trunk. I suspect no matter where you pick power up you are going to need to pull the driver and passenger seat to do the install, so maybe using my under the seat break out could work, it is only a matter of a few feet of wire. I could make a special harness with extra long leads for the tail light and ground to get you back to the trunk area. I know here is room in the existing wire management clips and clamps to where you can lace two extra wires in from under the seat back to the trunk. Here is a link to my under the seat break out harness. Please note there may be a slight price increase as the post office has just raised their rates, I am researching now to determine the impact to my published prices. -
Yes, brown with blue stripe or tracer should be correct.

If you have not found it yet, this is the best all round Goldwing forum, https://www.gl1800riders.com/ . I have visited the F6B forums from time to time and managed to get sideways with the owner of one of them, we had a few words and I told him to take a flying leap at rolling doughnut, just beware, wish I could remember which forum it was.

You are going to really enjoy that bike.

Post a picture of your bike, we can then confirm to you what you purchased. I have seen many RoadStars listed as RoyalStars and vice versa on Craigs list and other places.

What to do after you decide to quit riding motorcycles?
M61A1MECH replied to M61A1MECH's topic in Watering Hole
Thanks, no I have not had a need or any real desire put my foot in it, my street racing days are way behind me, it is enough to just enjoy the machine and admire the craftsmanship. -
Safety issue- ignition relay definitely saved my ignition switch
M61A1MECH replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
Dion, if the factory plugs have burned up or melted that tells me that there is not enough safety factor built into the original system, adding connections to that system could further decrease the current carrying capacity due to increased resistance in the system. So to add a bit of safety factor to your system you may want to consider If possible, increasing the wire size on your components to 12 AWG and install a 20 amp fuse. The key bit of information missing here is how much current is normally required for that circuit to work? Is the peak load transient? I am thinking it is probably higher during starting verse normal operation, for short term high current the heat load on the wires and the connectors should be minimal, but if there is 20 or 30 amps running through the circuit all the time the heating could considerably higher. Maybe build a system or two with what ever mods you think would be most beneficial and ask one or two of your previous customers to install them and test them for you to make sure the fuse and wire sizes are sufficient. Any idea what gauge the wires are in the OEM harness on the bike ? -

Correct I made same mistake , read relay, but old brain interpreted fuse, so as long as it is fused accordingly for the circuit and wire size it should be good. -

14 awg is not rated for 40 amps. Does the circuit draw 40 amps normally? Here is a link to generic wire size verse rated current. http://wiresizecalculator.net/wiresizechart.htm, there is some slight increases in the ampacity for the same conductor size based on the material used for the insulation, if you need to safely carry 40 amps you need to be around a 100 awg. -

Mine is a 2019 C7 with standard V8, the flat 8 did not get used until the C8 mid-engine Corvettes came out in 2020, and yes they have a different sound all together. -
Some of you may have followed my effort to sell my Goldwing, after it sold I wondered what I would do to fill the void , well about a month ago I figured it out and went and bought this, just spent the whole day washing , clay baring and waxing it. Certainly gave me something to do and it is fun to drive. I am sticking around monitoring the forums, hoping I can still be of help from time to time.

Carb synch, plugs and seafoam sound like a solid start to the trouble shooting, also make sure the original owner did not remove the weights on the ends of the handle bars, if those have been removed the bars can get some vibrations in them. As far as lacking get up and go, remember this V-4 like to produce power at high RPMs and both 4th and 5th gears are overdrive gears. If you are tooling along at 65 in 5th gear and try to accelerate quickly it will not respond like a V-twin. If you to get out and pass someone or just want to go faster quickly drop down to 4th or even 3rd and give it some gas. The bike actually performs best in 3rd gear, if you have not tried it, get on the road and while in 3rd gear, give as much gas as you like it may surprise you how quick it is.

I Read HERE about Reducing TOP HEAVY on the Venture, cant find it???
M61A1MECH replied to 10Power's topic in Watering Hole
Try this link, the bad news is the folks that made leveling links no longer make them, you will need to make your own or find some one who can make them. They work great. -

Have you looked here? https://www.radiantz.com/yamaha-led-lights-s/131.htm , they have the round plates for turns and also the flat plate for the tail brake. I had that or similar on my 98 Tour Classic and my Venture, I mounted a small modulator right inside the tail light assembly so the brake light flashed, really gets people's attention. Also check here for tower lights. https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/tail-brake-turn/ will need to get ones that have LEDs on the side of the tower so the show out through the lens.

Replacement engine for XVZ1300TF 1999 Royal Star Venture
M61A1MECH replied to Arthur's topic in General Tech Talk
The only one that is compatible with the Venture is the middle one https://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-2013-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-XVZ1300-1300-ENGINE-MOTOR-TRANSMISSION/133729294441, It would be easier to tell if they had left the fins and front struts on. The early Royal Star motors (1996 to 2001) did not have the struts on the front cyclinders securing the motor to the frame. See the snip I put in below. Also the early Royal Stars had 28mm carbs the Venture (1999 to 2013) and Tour DeLuxe (2005 to 2010) had 32 mm carbs so the motors are not compatible between Royal Star and Venture/Tour DeLuxe. Not to make more complicated Yamaha also called some of the earlier modes Tour Deluxe. The black engines are from Later model Ventures and Tour Deluxes, none of the early model standard Royal Stars had black motors to my knowledge. Hope that helps, maybe someone can give exact engine model number for Ventures or Tour DeLuxes -
Venture and Tour Deluxe parts are seldom interchangeable with the original Royal Stars. There are some but not many. Here is a link to another part of this forum, it is the STAR accessory catalog from many years back, you should be able to see the parts that interchange by comparing the Venture section to the Royal Star section.

I am not sure what you mean by " '99 Royal V", but here is a place to start getting some knowledge of the history of the Royal Star line, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_Royal_Star As memory serves me that bike in the photo is a Boulevard model of the original Royal Star series , produced from 1996 to 2001 as noted here, https://www.autoevolution.com/moto/yamaha-royal-star-boulevard-1999.html#aeng_yamaha-royal-star-tour-deluxe-3000-1294 Hope this helps.

If you can post photos of the connectors, front, back and sides (must be good sharp and in focus) I can see if I can find the connectors and try to help out. -

No this jumper does not fit the newer Ventures.
