  1. Eastwood makes the absolute best clear in a rattle can I've ever seen. Watch their videos and rest assured this is the clear to use. Nobody will ever know that it came from a can.
  2. I built a set for my bike and have enough stock to build at least 5 more sets. If anyone is interested Ill take $100 for them shipped Minus the cup holder. The right side is solid mount and the Left pivots up out of the way. PM if any interest, questions Ryan Vegastruckee
  3. Gonna be riding the newly rebuilt 03 up to Reno on Thursday. Ill be there until Saturday night then heading to sacramento for the night. Then back to Vegas, Ill be at both. In my 03 (best color) venture
  4. Well its official the bike is back to normal. I have put about 150 miles on it, and it is back to 100%. The carbs seemed clogged and I had to ride it like I stole it for a few miles but all of the sudden whatever it was came free and MAN WHAT A RIDE. Included is a pic of a nice clean bike. The last one had no motor and about 3500miles worth of road grime.
  5. Well my son took a 2 hour nap and gave me just enough time to FINISH everything. I pulled the bike out of the garage and drove it back in, seems fine. I cleaned the garage and to my surprise not a single exta part lying around,,,,gotta be a first. Wife should be home from school soon and a real test ride will take place. Thanks for following this and if you have any questions regarding my ordeal I would love to help out in any way I can.
  6. OK well I started the bike just now. No crazy noises or anything concerning. Still need to fill the brake fluid, clutch fluid and put saddle bags on but IT RUNS.....the wife made me call it a night early and my son is off school tomorrow so no progress will be made. Next time Ill be able to work on it will be saturday so Ill update on the ride then.
  7. Well ROUND 2 is done motor is back together with NO parts leftover or hiding anywhere. I tend to be a bit weary of HF stuff too but I pulled and twisted one of the clips apart to see how the metal reacted and it seems to be ok. Only time will tell. On a side note LOL yes I have a job Im a firefighter here in Las Vegas but you gotta have your priorities straight if your gonna enjoy life. Just saying, you only get one (life) do what makes you happy and the rest is just gravy. Ive seen to many people live to run the rat race and die before they start enjoying life....not me Im doing it all now.:cool10:
  8. NOPE the local yamaha dealers do not stock it....None of the 3. I went ahead and ordered OEM but then took a trip to harbor freight for some snap ring pliers and found a box of circlips for 9.99 I bought them and compared one to OEM and it looks identical, well besides the stretching, ground out part and not being concave. I think Im gonna roll the dice and just use the harbor freight one and see what happens. At worse case I pull the motor again and learn a lesson.
  9. Thanks guys. I agree Flyinfool I thought the same thing about that circlip, the pic doesnt really do it justice how bad it is. I never even took it off it just slid off onto the carpet I have the motor setting on. It looks overspread, worn from the inside a ton, and concave on one side and convex on the other.... Im up just made the kids spam and eggs for 2nd day of school. Trying to make it 9am so yamaha will open, should have motor back together by noon.
  10. So now its 230 in the morning with not one ounce of progress... At 130 I had motor 99.9%back together and when I was going through my PILES making sure I didnt have extra parts I noticed a large washer and circlip that I had no recollection of removing. Upon further investigation they both were to be installed on the transmission shaft where I had put the new gears. UHHHHHHGGGGGGG so I cracked the case open again....mind you that I had already torqued all bolts and was calling it a night because I had no friends to help me put the motor in the frame. Once the case was apart I put the washer on and was going to put the circlip on and it slipped directly on the shaft without having to spread it. Thats not right. I inspected the clip and noticed that it was missing about half the "meat" that it should have to hold it in place. I think this is where my broken gear problem may have originated. Remembering back to start of my problem...I felt one little hicup in my tranny. Maybe this was the circlip popping loose. A few hundred miles later I felt 2 distinct pops (both dogs breaking) then no 5th gear. Well now im done for the night until morning when I can go to yamaha and pray they have a circlip. sorry for the rambling IM TIRED>>>>
  11. OK Latest update, I got all my parts in today from Earl (thanks a million). The family is in bed so out to the garage I go. My goal is to get the motor back together by morning, and installed by afternoon. Im very OCD and once I start I will not stop until Im done. I will keep you all posted on progress and when I get my test ride done.
  12. Yes it broke 2 of the 3 dogs off. that is why it was clunking in the video. If all 3 dogs were gone the gears would have just slipped by each other smoothly. I am the most impatient person in the world. It is killing me that I have to wait for the parts to fix this. I would work 24 hours a day until a project I start is FINISHED. its a blessing and a curse at the same time. OCD severe. If I open a 12 pack I will not stop until its gone......thus my wife only buys 6packs now LOL
  13. ok so the very imaptient me went ahead and pulled the motor and split the case today. I found that the gear that engages 5th...the smaller one with the 3 posts that hook into 5th gear had 2 broken teeth. The engine pull and split was actually not that bad. I did it all by myself. Will be waiting for my dad to get into town next week to re-assemble, so that if something goes wrong I have someone to blame. LOL
  14. thanks for the advice guys I appreciate it. Im looking into a partial block/tranny from ebay now. Splitting the case looks like a ton of work.
  15. OK now for the good stuff. I pulled the clutch and basket etc. When everything is pulled there is a hole you can look through and see the gears. Its supposed to be there so dont worry there.... Ok so I looked in the hole and could see most of the gears, everything looks perfect. The case looks perfect with no sign of metal flying around. I put the bike into neutral and spun the shaft. It spins perfectly smooth. Next I put the bike into other gears and shaft would not spin, which I think is correct. I then shifted into 5th, the shaft would freely spin but would clunk quite a bit. You could see a gear in the back of the tranny that appeared to be loose. I took video and am attempting to upload to Youtube right now. Hopefully this video will help the cause. 16. Thanks for all the thoughts. Im open for all of it. So after the bike would no longer accelerate in OD we stopped at a gas station to pick up the rest of our group. The bike was off and I shifted it into overdrive and while sitting on the bike I rolled it forward about 20 feet with absolutely no resistance. I started the bike and heard the gears clicking but not moving forward at all. I pushed pretty hard in 4th quite a few times to get in front of some crazy cagers. My max speed for the trip in 4th was 99.7mph according to my gps. I did notice on a couple occasions that when I accelerated to get into passing lane I felt some clutch slippage. I would back off the throttle and away she would go accelerating perfectly. The bike was oiled with AMSOL oil put in at Christmas time. After 5th went out I took it to a shop and had oil drained to check for any signs of metal (which would have ended the trip). The mechanics is Eureka CA were amazing they let me stand next to bike the entire time. As they drained oil they let it run over a magnet, after fully drained we checked the magnet and not a single metal shaving. Then he took a extendable magnet and ran it around inside the pan. NO METAL again. We filled the oil and off I went. My question is.... Would the clutch let the bike roll in OD. Would the oil cause slippage even though its 6 months old with no prior evidence of slippage. I got some bad fuel about 2 weeks ago so I drained the tank, cleaned the carbs and went out and rode the bike like I stole it....with no slippage. Thanks everyone.
  17. OK so some of you might remember my DAD rapid rod starting a post about me loosing 5th gear 5 miles into my trip. I planned this trip for over a year and there was no way I was cancelling. What really took me by suprise is that I ride my bike at least 6 days a weeks. We got on the road leaving Las Vegas and I felt the tranny slip for a fraction of a second as I was passing a car in overdrive. After this tiny slip the bike kept driving fine but my gut told me something was going wrong. We continued to Sacramento CA about 500 miles away and as we entered town I felt the exact same slip but it was about a quarter second longer than the first slip I felt. The feeling in my stomach got worse. We went to dinner and I mentioned the slip to the guys and everyone kinda wrote it off as nerves, but like I said I ride the bike everywhere so I am pretty in tune with it at all times. I didnt get much sleep that night because this was bothering me so much. The next morning as we got on the freeway and I shifted into 5th....NADA. Was like I shifted into neutral. I thought the trip was over. Contacted my dad and he started doing research and said that as long as I stayed under 75 the bike would be fine until I got home. Well we rode 3,560 miles into Canada VIA the pacific coast. Rode the border and dropped into Glacier national park. Made it home with absolutely no problems. My bike had been averaging 32 mpg but on this trip I actually averaged 39mpg with a high of 44mpg????curious. now the task of finding out what went wrong. I am going to start ripping the bike apart and any advice would greatly be appreciated. The bike is a 2003 venture with 61000 miles on it and I ride it like a grandpa LOL very rarely do I push it hard so the tranny issue is puzzling. Thanks everyone.
  18. Looking at hitting Kelowna on or around the 31st of July, Calgary on the 1st and Regina around the 3rd. Then shooting down to Sturgis on the 4th through 7th. All my plans are tennative and subject to change at any time LOL but then again isnt flexibility the biggest part of riding.
  19. OK so Ive had the Hagon shock on for almost 2 weeks and about 600 miles. I could not be happier, I did some preload adjustment and man what a ride. Next month I leave Las Vegas and head up to Canada then east to Sturgis. Looking at about 4000 miles in 12 days. I am super excited about this trip and now that I have a good shock it should be a great ride.

  23. I will keep you all posted on the Hagon shock. I rode bike to work as usual today and was grinning ear to ear the whole way. The bike feels so much more stable and doesnt bounce through the turns anymore. A friend of mine and I are gonna ride death valley tomorrow, its about a 350miler so we will see how that goes. supposed to be over 110 degrees tomorrow so we will see how I hold up as well.
  24. I just bought a Hagon shock and installed it yesterday. I ordered it on Friday morning from Hagon USA in CA. I received it on Tuesday and installed Wednesday. The shock cost me $399 shipped which I think is a great price. Was told that the shock (as delivered with no spring adjustment) was set up for a rider between 160 and 220. The spring can be adjusted 6 full turns (not sure what the weight range would be after full adjustment). I rode the bike to work this morning and home and am very very happy with the ride. I weigh 200lbs and the ride is great (but I have been riding the bike with a bad shock since I bought the bike last year. I was really impressed with the look and feel of the Hagon shock, not sure how it will hold up over time but one day in and im very happy.
  25. I just put my set of Dunlop E3 and I cant say it loud enough I LOVE THEM. I had a set of Dunlop 404 (think thats the name) and what a difference. Got them from Rocky Mountain MC . com for a good price.
