Sooo, changing the stator and starter train. Flywheel just pops off so life is good. Then I snapped off some screws in the stator cover and proceeded to really booger it up. Anyone have a replacement cover? First Gen MK II 1300. Thanks! -Jim K

Cash will bring some surprises. I was selling a minivan on CL a while back. Lots of destitute moms with 30 kids needing a nearly free van and lots of scammers. Bring cash was the answer for the scammers. Well, one I was sure was a scammer shows up with a box full of 5's 10's & 20's --the full 800 bucks for my van. I asked why he would drive from Chicago for a cheap rusty minivan, I'm certain they have cheap vans there. He says none of the cheap rusty minivans in Chicago have standard transmissions. -JK

Beginning the Adventure of Restoring My 76 Chev Luv.
BlueVenture87 replied to GolfVenture's topic in Watering Hole
Research outside the LUV nameplate. LUV trucks were Isuzu trucks rebranded so check those listings as well. When bonyeard shopping be sure to check the imported and domestic areas if the yard is organized that way. That's the easy one. Here's the tricky one. Look at other mini-trucks no matter what the manufacturer. The turn signal lenses on my '58 Dodge D-100 aren't available anywhere but that exact same lens and gasket is used on the Jeep CJ's and is available off the shelf at the 4X4 store down the street! Hemmings motor news, Ebay and Metro Molded parts are good places to start. Luck! -

I play the mileage game. Truck gets 13 mpg, cycle gets 45 mpg. For every day I commute on the cycle I save about 10 clams at current fuel prices. When gas goes up I save more Ride enough and it's a free machine! My last job charged me to park at work, about 850.00 per year for a truck but only about 90.00 for a cycle. I saved enough to by two free machines on that deal. If I would have the Commute and pay to park, I would have hit the jackpot! The savings angle works wonders around here. --JK

I picked up a cheap orange hunting vest with a zipper, probably alot like the construction vests. Works great over my regular crash protection. It's not reflective but it really stands out in the rain. I feel more visible with it when I get caught by weather so I keep it in the trunk just in case. With any luck, and diligence on my end, I won't have to fully test the theory of visibility. -Best -JK

Still could be moisture. If the condensation were to be absorbed you wouldn't see it as a discreet bubble. Best -JK -

I need some mechanic advice, not motorcycle related
BlueVenture87 replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
You're half way there! To remove a frost plug you first knock it into the block and then pull it out sideways. The removal orientation is similar to putting a coin in a soda machine but this time you're pulling the coin out. If that won't work due to access then leave it in there. As others have written, if it's not blocking flow it should be fine. I doubt it will make it's way to the pump. Luck! -JK -
Clogged exhaust? I had pickup that wouldn't breath. It had a bad catalytic converter. Best! --JK

where to find first gen chrome screws
BlueVenture87 replied to BlueVenture87's topic in Watering Hole
I have done this where I can. What's left is too specialized. I even took by bad ones into Fastenal and struck out. This is especially true on the windshield garnish screws. These seem to be specifically made for this machine! Thanks for the idea though -JK -
Hi folks, I'm in the process of putting the fairing parts back on my '87 but most of the nice chrome screws from the windshield garnish fight down to the lower chin are trashed. Anyone have spares? Know where to get spares? finding a set would be a great help! Thanks! -JK

Is the Quebec government wanting to banish motorcycles ?
BlueVenture87 replied to AngryAmish's topic in Watering Hole
In WI you have the option of a straight up DMV test or a pass on a motorcycle rider course and no test. Courses were cheap at the community college and loads of fun. It was a no brainer to go with the training. -
Soo, I want to add a sidecar to my 82 Wing. How diffferent is it to drive? What to avoid etc.. I have a lead on a california sidecar already set up for my year/model of cycle. How hard are these to install on a non-sidecar machine - welding etc...? I'm pretty good with tools / procedures but need to know all the new kid pitfalls before I jump. Thanks! -JK

I just did the same thing and it's working out. One thing I kept in mind is that you can't be assured of the political landscape on any given day. Somone else could move on tomorrow and you would no longer know the political landscape at your current employer. Same condition, treading lightly, without the bump in pay or benefits. Many years ago I left a place and it imploded later that year, I was a small fry there and really liked the folks I worked with but that one really worked out. The future is an unknown at your current place AND with your proposed move, why not make a jump up in compensation? I would take it! JK

How many need VentureRider Guardian Bells
BlueVenture87 replied to Freebird's topic in Watering Hole
Put me in for one bell. Maybe it will help get the first gen driveable again. -JK -
You have had the vehicle for a week and you have jitters? Can you still give it back? I would. These things aren't cheap and it sounds like the service is marginal at best. Add to it that this is in the honeymoon phase! Wait and see about your reception at the dealer when you become a regular customer. I don't put much stock in overall reputation of any vehicle, when you get them used some just arent right and can't be made right. If you can, walk and then run away! -JK

My chimney isn't 60" in diameter but he sent something down it anyway --but we don't talk about that... -JK

For a quick stop I'll hang it on the handlebar. Somone could steal it but since I always ride with my helmet installed it can get a little funky. So I say "go to town", as soon as you stick YOUR head inside you'll pay and I bet I find it not too far from where I left it! -JK

Ok, it seems that the 4gal minimum is designed to prevent E15 from getting into E10 systems inadvertently by diluting any residual E-15 in the pumping equipment. Moreover, this does not in any way prevent us from getting E-zero fuel that I for one work to find -and run in my machines. The local station can do whatever with the "blender" pump, I get my gas at stations that have the fuel I need so I'm in the clear. No worries!

Has anyone ever lifted a first gen on to a work table with an engine hoist? I have a sturdy table and hoist. Purchasing a lift table is out of reach financially but I like the table height for winter service. Any list wisdom on this?
