  1. Daang! I aways miss out on the good stuff...
  2. My wife penny 120 lbs sopping wet started out on a new 250 vstar. Wanted her to move up to the my 650 vstar but she really liked the white Honda 500 shadow. She perferrred it because of the weight. When I said lets get it, she said lets just wait alittle... Currently she has lost interest in riding and the 250 is just sitting there. I'm hoping I can get her to ride this spring. If not will put it up for sale.
  3. :thumbsup2: I like how you can remove the top portion and get alot of air(much more than a OEM windshield with a honda goldwing vent). At interstate speeds it completely eliminates the buffeting just like the OEM At seconday road speeds, with clear half off, I love the completly unrestricted view and air it offers.
  4. HA! just scored a xv535 final drive off ebay for $70..... WooooHoooooo!!!!
  5. make sure it's not wiffing it at the air intake. a small amount goes a long way... If it at a specific carb, check for a loose boot clamp(Top of head), missing rubber terminator cap (inside head fins), or, a loose or cracked vacum hose(s). If its speeding up in only one or two places its pulling the vapor in thru the vacum and igniting. make sure you do the seafoam....at least twice a year also... regardless
  6. If he's any kind of landlord he'll fix it asap. I wouldn't start a fight with him over somethings that is not his fault. I'm sure he's pissed also. The insurance company needs to assess the damage... To start a fight over this, would only invite: a raise in your rent, bad reference or even eviction... If he's a slum lord, and you know it, give proper notice and move...you get what you pay for....leave on good terms. If you've lived there for any length of time, you already know where you stand. I've rented apartments and mobile homes for 17 years now and can only speak for myself, but if a tenant of mine said "do this or else"... they would be moving...period... Of course, I'm not a slum lord either, so there would be no need for them to even open their mouth... I alsways fix problems the same day... or asap.... guess im trying to say just try to look at this thru his eyes.
  7. if you haven't had your carbs apart bef0re you had this problem it's probably not a kinked or bound throttle cable... mine was after i rebuilt a set of carbs. sounds like dirty carbs or vacum leak. vacume leak: spray around one carb at a time with carb cleaner, if there is one the engine will slow down. never used ether but if in small enough doses????it would definately speed up...LOL Dirty carbs: seafoam works wonders on these bikes,.Especially when this ethanol fuel trashes them in a couple months if they sit. the varnish will ruin them. If your lucky, mix at twice the rate suggested on the can and run for at least 5 min... that way you'll have the solution in the carbs to sit overnight. then start up the next day, if the problem is still there gently tap on side of carb with a long shanked screwdriver. hopefully you'll dislodge whatevers in there. i'd also plan on changing the fuel filter. if not... you may have to take carbs apart and clean....
  8. listen to your DR. and heal quick... In 7 weeks we will be in spring riding season!
  9. I had a bike do that to me once and found it to be a kinked throttle cable.
  10. This is the heaviest bike I've ever owned and technically put her down twice... Once at Key west doing a 2mph uturn and once at Freebirds at 2-3 mph, i hit some mud on the side of the driveway and the front end washed out before i could whistle Dixie. When these things start going down bout the only thing you can do is crack the throttle and hit your rear brake, or, just let her go down. It won't hurt it. By 'put her down' i mean rest on the lower portion of the crash bar. it will actually sit there in about a 55 degree angle? Never put it all the way down and believe it would be quite a handfull if i ever did. Which reminds me i really should get the lower crash bar braces for the extra support, Just in case...
  11. a motorcycle will not usually do a forward flip by itself unless you hit the front brakes... It also happens in jumps : If the front end hits first and your rear tire is above the front "like when you remain seated in the forward position'' attempting a table top landing. If on the other hand you stand on the foot pegs shift your ass back with constant throttle all will be good. You can tweak the orientation of the bike when air born,by snapping the throttle to raise front wheel or hitting the rear brake to lower it... Gyro He was already flipping over the handle bars when he either hit the brakes again, or, his front wheel had turned enough to actually drag "puff of smoke". He was doomed to roll..................... If you wash out racing going around a turn, you are already very low to the ground and if you are wearing the proper protective clothing you have a good chance of walking away... because you'll slide same thing with downhill skiing... proper clothes will prevent you from stop and stick situation. Instead you'll slide and nothing will hurt you unless your unfortunate to Hit an immovable object. When young and foolish I wore a cotton jacket and attempted a black diamond trail when they were making snow. Fresh man made snow for those that don't know is a LOT SLOWER than natural and you must rock back on your heels to prevent a face plant. I caught the very edge of some , launched over a cornise and hit shoulder first about half way down the hill. Had I been wearing my spider jacket I would have slid. The cotton didn't and as a result I tumbeled resulting in a AC separation and subsequent operations to shorten bone because of impingement problems. Guess that's why I'm so anal about safety equiptment...
  12. Ever find out where the noise was coming from?
  13. Many years ago, at Lowery AFB, Denver Co., we had lobster every Saturday. Yum!
  14. I hear that.... never did the dirt tack in a car but use to take various vehicles out in the fields for a spin...LOL that also taught me not to be afraid when the car starts going sideways... Kinda fun to...
  15. HE IS VERY LUCKY that +800 lb. bike didn't kill him. I think he panicked, hit the front brake on downhill side of speed bump and when he started vaulting over the handlebars it looks like, he hit them again. anyone can panic on a bike... the best thing you can do is practice, practice, practice. my dirt bike riding has saved my bacon more than once...

  17. the tires will have dates on em. if Kbb is $5400 "trade in", do your really think your going to get it for half of that? If he sells it on his own, he could easily get $6K with 2600 miles...thats starting at $6400 and coming down a litle for the paint and tires? I could be wrong, perhaps your his favorite nephew? Personally i wouldn't take the chance on insulting him... he's the seller, let him quote the price. That way there won't be any hard feelings. If he won't put a price on it, have him go to a dealership and see what they will offer???
  18. Brian... that video is entirely BOGUS! Just watch Dept of homeland security video on what to do if you are comfronted by someone with a gun. According to them, all he would have needed, are a pair of scissors....and quite possibly a desk to hide under... Doh!
  19. So, whos keeping the Stop N Go tire plug gun kit, with the spare bullet in it? Seriously though, you did good. Money and cameras can be replaced. Like hiding money though, starting today, I won't be putting all my valuables in one place(like i have in the past.) doc say 6 weeks for the cast? Hope you heal fast, and i believe someone was looking out for you...
  20. mine needs washed anyway.... LOL one last ride before the new shock.
  21. My rear shock has been bad since before I started this poll.... Will take in next week before my warranty runs out.... and before this years riding season...
  22. suppose to be 68 deg and sunny Tuesday. Plan on getting in a couple hundred miles. then it's suppose get cold again. That's when I'm taking the bike to the shop so they can replace my rear shock...
  23. If they aren't careful YAMAHA will follow the lead of american auto manuf. of the 70's. Remember when everything under the sun was an add on? or, how bout rusty bodies after 3 years. Then aong comes Toyta, just for an example. They throw in a bunch of add on's included in the base price and put plastic inner fenders so the gravel doesn't chew thru undercoating and cause tremendous amounts of rust... They did this because they saw a way of getting ahead of the competition.... It worked...
  24. Although i have a 2007 midnight RSV and wouldn't trade it for the world ... I'm thoughly convinced it gets dirty just looking at it...
  25. I also prefer white vehicles, wether it be cars trucks or motorcycles.... Perhaps the most forgiving color when it comes to dirt....
