  1. Miles I hope all goes well from here on. But if for some reason your bike turns out to be unrideable give me a call and I will bring the trailer and come get you. Mike
  2. You now know why many of us upgraded to the v-max differential gears. It improves performance and fuel mileage. Go figure. See Freebirds article in the tech section. Mike
  3. I have it. super upgrade. I had to enlarge the mounting holes a little though. So my lens cover would go all the way on. Mike
  4. External combustion engine. Mike
  5. No it's not backward. For those who want to know. Go out and take the antenna off your car and see what still works on the radio.
  6. There is no pressure before the fuel pump. Just the weight of the fuel in the tank. Ethanol rated fuel line is probably a good idea. Elbows used to be available if you feel the need. Also I can see a dealer charging 1/2 hour for replacing the line. Even though it only takes a few minutes. Mike
  7. I agree with those above. The best mod is the v-max gears. Mike
  8. On most radios the AM uses the mast antenna. FM generally uses a wound coil antenna inside the radio. So I agree it is most likely a poor connection somewhere. Clean and grease the plugs and contacts. Mike
  9. You might want to check this thread. Mike http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41418&highlight=muffler
  10. Camping World has some small step stools that will fold up and fit in the trunk. Mike
  11. Pins and connectors for this plug are available from Eastern Beaver. http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__Products/Connectors/connectors.html Mike
  12. Well. Lay it down a couple of more times and you will be a veteran. Glad to hear you and yours are ok. Mike
  13. The Magellan has presets for 'most use of freeways' and 'least use of freeways'. Something I have always found very handy. I like the Magellan presets and navigation the best of any GPS. Only problem is they don't make a water resistant unit suitable for motorcycles. At least as far as I know. Mike
  14. First - Floating I have on occasion noticed a slight floating sensation with both the D404s and Exedras. The first time I noticed it I had the bike completely checked out. In case something was loose or out of place on the back end. Everything checked out fine. Now I just ignore the sensation and power on through. At this point I no longer feel it so I think it was just a floating feeling not a real sliding. Perhaps the suspension compressing or something. Second - Tires I know the name Bridgestone creates visions on cupping and noisy rides but. The new Bridgestone Exedra Max tires are worth looking at. It's the Max not the regular Exedra. They are far superior to the older tires, have multiple rubber compounds, deep treads and come in the right sizes. I put a set on mine at the last tire change and I have been very happy with them so far. Mike
  15. First Welcome to the forum. Around here we don't care what you ride. You will find help on almost any subject. Yes the Venture is a wonderful bike. The longer I have mine the more I like and appreciate it. So if you buy one be prepared to enjoy it. If not enjoy what you have. Mike
  16. Ok. I was in a cage when I pulled up next to him so no flag. Ventures are some what scarce around here but not really rare. I just thought if there is another VR member nearby we might hook up for lunch or a ride sometime. Mike
  17. Pulled up next to and said hi to a fellow Venture Rider in Seatac WA. On 188th near I-5. Nice looking two tone blue and black bike. Mike
  18. The Internet is a modern day fact of life. It is not going away, no matter how much some retailers want it to. Consumers now have a way to verify how much something should cost and how much they are willing to spend. Smart retailers have learned to deal with it. 10% profit in the bank still beats 40% of a lost sale. At the end of the day it is really hard to deposit a point. Most banks require bucks. Mike
  19. Spray lock with lube. Turn the key around and try it again. Mike
  20. Actually the idea is doable. It requires a large heavy flywheel and main spring. I designed one many years ago using the wheel off a train engine as the flywheel. Through the use of overrunning clutches, energy was easily recovered on down hill runs and when breaking. The primary problem I encountered was the weight required to contain the mainspring and wound up flywheel in the event of an accident. Mike
  21. Welcome
  22. If everything is working I don't think I would recommend switching. Some of these bikes seem to be oil sensitive. I am not sure if you want to find out if yours is one of them. Some time ago I switched from Yamalube to Amsoil motor cycle oil. Within 500 miles my transmission / clutch was screaming so bad I could hardly ride. So I switched back to Yamalube. It took over a thousand miles for things to quiet back down. I feel like I was lucky because things did get back to near normal. I am not saying don't switch. Just be aware and be willing to switch back at the first sign of trouble. Mike
  23. What version of Windows? Mike
  24. The front one is low on the fairing on the left side. Get off the bike and squat down to find it the first time. The rear is under the seat near the left side. But it is not a cigar lighter type plug. It is a white two wire connector that does not have the pins in it. Mike Note: You can order pins and plugs from Eager Beaver but they come in bulk. Might be an idea for a group purchase.
