  1. Too bad I feel a little scrunched on this thing
  2. Hahaha I suppose I should!
  3. Do these first gens have adjustable footpegs? I thought I remember reading somewhere that that was a feature on the first gens? How do I adjust them? Thanks in advance guys!!!!
  4. Got it done guys! Really easy and the bike runs great! Got the back right one slightly stripped but that cylinder was running fine so I wont worry about it until later. Thanks for the great tips guys!!!
  5. I dont mind letting it sit for a few days to get parts. Ill replace if they look bad, being jobless I'm kind of on a budget right now.
  6. Too Cool! Thanks for the diagram I think I'm going to make those myself!!!!
  7. I would (assuming I'm healed and my bike is running good) Would go to the Black Hills (about a 7 hour drive) ride around the usual routes, the ones that @cowpuc described, but with a twist. Id spend a huge chunk of change in Deadwood since I'm legal now!!!
  8. I remember that bolt on my TS400 was tough too. I think I just did the same thing you did and it worked out fine. After I replaced the seal it kept leaking because the inner fork tube was really, really pitted
  9. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by sleeves? Like the dust boots? Sorry I'm still learning!!!
  10. Did you leave the anti dives hooked up?
  11. Would a shot of PB blaster hurt doo you think?
  12. Of course I have been on disability for over a month so I could be a little rusty
  13. Ok that sounds simple enough. I thought the brass cap was right against the screw, but knowing that there is a gap between them totally takes my worry away. I drill for a living through light duty aluminum and the like so I'm fairly confident I wont mess it up too bad!!!
  14. Well the fork seals are leaking pretty bad and it likes to bottom out pretty hard. The CLASS system fills up, but then in a short amount of time they will run out. I ordered a Dunlop 404 for the front, progressive springs and new fork seals. I plan to cut the spacers for the progressives down like they are described in the READ ONLY section. I know that they will be just fine without doing this, but I like having to use the CLASS. I always dreamed of owning one of these new, because of all the neat toys so I'd really like to continue using the CLASS system and continuing my illusion of riding a "new" 88 venture! I dont have the tool to install seals, but maybe @Freebird wouldn't mind renting his homemade one out? Any advice or things that I should do once I've installed the progressives would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance guys!!! I'll let you guys know how the installation goes and what I think of the ride afterward!!!
  15. Well I got my girl running on all four yesterday, but It still has an intermitten misfire when not totally warmed up. I know they set the pilot screw really really lean from the factory, and I know mine have never been adjusted. What size drill bit do I use and exactly how can you tell when you've bottomed out into the pilot screw?
  16. Yup looks like the battery acid took about all the clear coat off anyway. I'll just leave the vents on cuz I know the people that are gonna are me, myself, and I!
  17. I think I'll just run to radioshack and get a resistor. Thanks guys. Now about the corrosion on the engine, what would be a good way to start cleaning it off?
  18. that thing is too cool! Ths
  19. I was considering putting a post on seeing if anyone wanted to meet up in the area and grab lunch. But I went with dad and although I'm not working right now he only had a few days off. Ohh now you got me thinking BBQ too. All in all me and dad had a pretty good drive up. Probably saw about 300 or more deer in indiana!!!! Ill keep you guys posted on the progress!!!! Thanks all for the kind words and the stores that made me feel alot better! Glad to see I'm not alone!!!
  20. I was just wondering for the sake of curiosity and the thrill of being creative! I figure since its just a fluid level sensor it'd sense when the fluid got low in any liquid/acid battery so it wouldnt really be a bypass. We filled it up anyway so I'm DEFINITELY not drilling into it now! Its a cheap liquid/acid type just to get me started. I dont let them sit in the winter anyways I always try to start the bike once a week for a good long time.
  21. Thank you so much! This one looks to bee the most solid. Ill have some pics of the finished product once I'm done!
  22. Ok fellas I'm going to do a bit more work on my 88! My first question is that the motor has alot of corrosion on it. Looks like maybe from road salt or something like that. Its very common corrosion for an old engine. Whats a good cheap way to clean it off? Also, The battery light is flashing and my new battery doesnt come with a sensor port. I'm not interested in putting a resistor in, I'd almost rather drill a hole in the battery and install it there. It is a six cell battery that I believe I can just take a cap off and put the sensor in that hole. The reason that i'm not Jerry Rigging it is because it had a battery leak on the engine before, and there is alot of paint missing from this. Any opinons would be much obliged! And i'll make sure to do a repost of my successes with it! Thanks in advance guys!!!!
  23. I love giving my friends heck about the badges they run on their trucks! Truth be told unless you were gonna plow into it at sixty I don't think any stock truck will get through that. We used to take drifts like that in my buddy's Ford Tempo and with those cars we found wed actually drove ON TOP of most the drifts. You would HAVE to be doing at least 60 in that little car and you had better NEVER hit the brakes! Now that ive got a 4x4 I don't usually try to get it stuck because I learned that once you get a 4x4 stuck it IS STUCK!!! My brother in law taught me to back in first and if you get stuck going backwards you can usually just throw it in drive and go right out! Seems like you ended with some good times and great stories so all is not lost!!! Glad you made it out ok with no damage besides that goat on your hood:255:
