If they do anything close to @cowpuc's list I will save the money and buy one brand new. Otherwise I'm going to live on my 88 -
See the reason why he's interested in the Hondamatic is that he's not very comfortable shifting with his hands. He has a hard enough time driving his civic. Basically I was wondering if itd do 60 all day and if it was reliable

Hey guys has anyone had any experience with these bikes. My roommate is looking to buy one and I was just wondering what your opinion is on it

Hey guys, while I was riding out west I noticed most of the roads were 70mph and the interstates were 80. My rule of thumb that I followed was to do an indicated 70mph (closer to 65) on the interstates and an indicated 65 on the highways that were 70. It was the first first trip I took with this 88 and took it all the way to Ft. Bragg california through highway 50. I didn't go through the real desert it was still, in my opinion a desert and a hundred degrees so I didn't want to work the bike too hard. I think running it at 75 seems to be running it a bit hard. Mileage drops, the engine is over half way to the red line at 4000rpms. The temp gauge goes up noticeably in the heat, but never too hot . So I guess my question is what do you guys run your bikes at. I believe this question applies to first and second generations.

Basically all I accomplished on this trip was making a huge list of future destinations!

Now you guys know I don't mind my threads getting hi-jacked. Its my fault anyways, if I was ever online to take over a post I'd hijack them right back! But it was the day before the last day on my west coast trip to California. I left Lovelock Nevada at 5 AM and didn't stop til 8 or so 10 miles north of Saratoga Wyoming. I credit my not doing the saddlesore (or iron butt, I looked it up online and I think the association is the Iron Butt Association and the actual 1000 miles is the saddle sore?) to three things. 1. I was heading east so I was losing hours and daylight as I went. 2. Being that the old girl who's 5 years older than me took me all the way to the coast I figured I'd baby her since she babied me so well, so I only went an indicated 70mph on the freeway. It was hot as the dickens and I felt safer and a little more responsible cruising at 70, because its technically 65mph. 3. I saw about 60 antelope through Wyoming by the time the sun was setting so I decided that I wasn't going to break my "don't ride after dark" rule. I just don't feel comfortable riding at night, especially with such a nice old bike that ran so flawlessly the whole time. I wasn't counting miles that day, or pushing hard. Just enjoying a nice long ride. I stopped pretty frequently out in the desert, pretty much wherever I could find shade and took plenty of rests. But it was an amazing trip my only regret was having to come back. I was super surprised with how friendly people were out in Utah and NV and California. People held doors for me in Reno and everyone was just very nice. I got to see a lot of things that I'd never seen before and I got to do a lot I hadn't done too. I saw a black bear, Sand Mountain on highway 50 in Nevada. I got to see the High tundra in the rocky mountain national park. I got to see the ocean which was one of my favorite parts. While I was riding through some salt flats in Nevada I got the wise Idea to just drive through the ditch onto the flat and cruise around. They had gotten a lot of moisture at that time so the surface had big deep cracks in it from the mud drying. So I only got to go 60 on it and that was probably too fast. You should've seen the look on this Harley rider gave me when he passed by. I gave him a big old cheesy smile and drove right back up the ditch and onto the road and headed his direction. I've also never almost gone to a "rave" before. They were having a big camp party at a camp ground in Humbolt Campgrounds State Park. There were a couple hundred or more people there with fires and glow sticks and running around. Safe to say what happens in Cali stays in Cali I saw a good friend in Reno and her boyfriend. We all went to a local brewery and got tanked and walked home across Reno at night. Like I said, I'm very impressed with Reno, its probably more friendly than Norfolk here. They let me stay the night and I fell asleep during a game of cards. Something about riding apparently makes me pretty worn out. I stopped at arches national park and wasted a large number of hours there. I also kind of got the Venture stuck on a 4x4 road a few minutes of rocking and I worked her right out of it! I camped in Moab Utah and fell in love with that place. I will definitely visit there again, multiple times! I ate at a steakhouse that sat you outside and I heard myself give a moan because I was hot and wanted some A/C but the trick is that at these places there they spray a nice light mist on you, and since its so arid, it cools you off almost instantly. I ordered a buffalo burger and a big glass of Mt. Dew along with a BIIIIG glass of Ice water. Have any of you guys ever taken Highway 50 aka "The Loneliest Highway in America"? What did you think of it? You said pictures I bring pictures not many

No its a ride for leisure, but I've thought about going to school there and if I can find an interesting opportunity I would apply. I'm riding 1 up, by myself. Pretty much sun up to sun down budget riding. I want to see a lot of road I have brand new tires front and back, a new brake rotor and rear brake pads (long story), and I'm ready to ride. I have no problem finding convenient last minute campgrounds either

Yeah, I'm actually going to find work in the Gunnison area when I get out there. I might have to print this off so I have my own travel list lol. I plan on being in AZ too so maybe we can meet up for lunch or you could show me the sights!

Good idea guys I will probably do that. Million dollar highway was allready on my bucket list but I've always wanted to see Arches Natl. Park. And yeah BlueSky I'm back to working 55 hours a week so now when I have time off I'm usually sleeping I'll try to get on more though because I miss Yammer Dans ordeal and feel pretty bad

Well guys I have my new rotor on express delivery and I should be leaving this Monday to see Colorado for the first time on the bike. Thinking of missing some work and making it like a 15 day ride. If that's the case I'll be doing some true CTFW-ing! Planning on bringing my goose hunting coat (waterproof AND super warm) Frogtog Rain pants, leather chaps and a couple of pairs of PJ's to wear under my jeans if necessary. As far as tools, bringing my metric wrench set, allen wrench set, 3/8th drive ratchet, possibly a reducer and some 1/4 drive stuff, voltmeter, and some wire. Other than that I plan on traveling real light with a @cowpuc special Meeenards tent, my wally world lawn chair, and my scientifically proven double wrapped with a trash bag sleeping bag. Any suggestions on where to go from Colorado do to some real site seeing. I'm about 8 hours from steam boat springs where I'm from in Norfolk, Ne, planning on staying 2 days or so in CO. Also any CTFW tips or ideas that you guys have for me will be greatly appreciated and taken into account, and don't worry guys... there WILL be pictures!!!

Hey guys, its been a long while since I've done any real sitting on this site and I just noticed that terrible news. I really hope he has a fast recovery, but I started this post just to say one thing. Remember to ride like its your first time (minus any accidental wheelies), take your time and remember that we're out on the road to listen to the radio see some sites, and have some of the best therapy known to man. Its crazy how fast you can lose a quarter of a year with even a minor injury. I feel super blessed to be as lucky as I was. Just remember guys keep the greasy side down! And god bless!

I've always been interested in something like this to cut the top off, mount a windshield, and bring my dog Buddy on my riding escapades

Hey guys just wanted to let everyone know that I'm back online and that I've been pretty busy since my last post. I've got most of my issues solved on my 88 and thanks to the rain I just now crossed over 2k miles since the accident. I'm really happy with how the bike rides, how it runs, how it looks, how it sounds and how unique I truly feel on it when I ride with my friends. (A black 1200 sportster and a black 750 shadow, cant really tell them apart ) I'm a big guy, and for what my friends say is a big bike, I truly do feel like this bike was MADE FOR ME!!! Anyways for memorial day Jon, Matt, and I headed out on the scoots towards Pilger, NE where we stopped and had a chat with some friends. His wife asked if I ride around pilger all the time and I told her yeah I go there pretty frequently since the tornado last year. She said she remembered my bike, but I don't think she does because I've only ridden there once on the 88, I went there a lot more on the 99 After that we headed north into Wayne and continued on toward Laurel. My friend stopped for gas (because that's the only town in the area with premium ((which I think is the biggest setback about most V-Twins))) and headed toward Randolph to meet with my dad who conveniently wasn't home. From there we rode into Osmond and stopped at Jon's Dad's house and had some super refreshing Ice Water. As we were riding through Osmond I noticed two old Lime Green dirt bikes sitting outside of a garage. Naturally I couldn't help but steer in that direction and take a nice long peek at the old bikes. I got past their house and pulled a U-ey and as I was headed back toward the bikes from the other way my attention was suddenly drawn to a nice, cool 83 Venture sitting in there garage. It was the maroonish one, the first one I've ever seen personally. I pulled up on my Venture, killed the engine and told them they had a hell of a sharp bike in their garage. We talked for a little while about our Ventures and about the two old dirt bikes. I don't remember what model they were, but they were both 1968 somethings that had consecutive vin numbers which I thought was cool. We finished our Memorial Day journey after that by taking the back road into Norfolk. We had clocked about 115 fun filled miles and generally had a great time. Plus who doesn't love seeing another Venture. And then yesterday driving through town in my pickup I noticed a 2 tone black MKII Venture riding through Norfolk two up. I tried to catch up to talk to them, but traffic didn't really allow. Either way I thought two 1st Gens in 2 days, maybe I'm not riding such a unique bike!

The blue is an 84 or an 83. I know for a fact that its a 1200 because of the bags. I remember me and @cowpuc were looking at a blue one like this that was supposed to have a buttload of miles. I don't remember, but maybe puc will. I do, however, think that its a pretty rare color, but my moneys on an 84

I wouldve gone home and gotten a fresh pair of pants!!!
