  1. ****The truck driver speaks**** If you're gonna stay behind the truck, stay way far back. If you're gonna pass, better pass fast and watch the truck for a stupid driver. You do not want to stay beside a truck under any circumstances. The truck tires generally are pressured up to 105 PSI and higher. Not something you really need to be driving beside. Then there's the visibility factor. Cagers don't see the bikes as easily as they should. That is only magnified in the truck driver's realm. He's got that big trailer following him that he has to keep an eye on, plus everything else. Again, let me drive this point home, watch for stupidity. Don't expect the truck driver to act intelligently or to be watching out for you. There are still a lot of ignorant truck drivers on the road in spite of the best efforts of companies and government entities to weed the bad ones out. The last thing I would strongly suggest is fervent prayer and make sure you have a good relationship with the afterlife insurance agent.
  2. OK, being an overzealous amatuer musician, I just happen to have a fully chromatic Korg tuner. I also have a clip to hook to an accoustic instrument in which I plug into the input side of my tuner. This cancels everything else out and the only thing that's tuned is what ever is hooked up to the clip. Do ya figger this would work if I were to clip on to the end of the hose?
  3. Here's what's funny about the whales. In Juneau we PAID for a whale watching excursion. We saw a few whales but never got that close to them. When we left Juneau we had whales surfacing beside the ship! I've heard some good and some bad about freestyle cruising. Some folks like it and some folks don't. I've never tried it and I'm not too certain that I want to.
  4. I saw gas prices go up 29 cents here yesterday. I have no idea how high they are today, but I'll agree, it's price gouging.
  5. Those were the exact same stops we made and we were on the Serenade of the Seas. Yes, the sea days can be boring, but it's all in what you do with them. As for me, I'd grab an ice cream and sit by an upper deck window and go on "Whale Watch". I saw several Dahl's porpoises and on th night that we departed Juneau we were surrounded by whales just as the sun was setting. We were amazed at the number of whales spouting that we saw. Trips like these don't come often enough, so you've got to make the most of it while you can.
  6. She might actually be surprised. I've been checking the CruiseCams for some Alaskan ports on http://www.kroooz-cams.com/USindex.html. Ketchikan and Skagway aren't that much different than here in Amarillo through the winter months. It's on account of the warm air that comes up from Japan. Here's some shots we took during a float plane excursion in Ketchikan.
  7. I took my wife on an Alaskan cruise about three years ago and it looks like I hit the same spots. I fell in love with Skagway. If there was any way I could just pick up and move, I'd move to Skagway. I have to agree, it'd be nice to cover all the spots we did on the cruise at our own pace instead of at the ship's schedule. And it would have been nice to have had my own boat to explore the Hubbard Glacier, to go where I wanted to go.
  8. Careful now, thou knowest not whom thou mightest be implicatingeth.
  9. It's kind of hard to haul one of those back to the house on the back of a bike, ain''t it?
  10. Pffffft! Football ain't real. It's all smoke and mirrors and fluff. Why else would the call what they do before the game "practice"? They should come right out and call it what it really is, a rehearsal. Football is no more real than rasslin'. Now if you want to watch something real, watch bull riding. Now THAT'S real! You stick 150 pounds of half scared cowboy on the back of 2000 pounds of really mad bull, and it ain't IF he gets hurt, it's WHEN and HOW BAD. And it's totally unrehearsed.
  11. Well if I can win something way cool like a flashlight, especially if it's one o' them modern types that run offa batteries, I just may have to give 'er a shot.
  12. What do entry fees usually run? Say for a run under 100 miles?
