  1. Mine's easy. When I start to stare straight ahead, it's time to pull off the road and take a power nap.
  2. I pulled a trailer with my '99RSV up to Cody WY, and at 70-75mph I was averaging 25mpg. Even tried 4th, but was no help. Hit reserve a 110 miles. Hate to think what it would have been like plus another 10mph. It's a long way between towns out there on I-80 in Nevada. One stretch between Thermopolis WY and Cody was 80 miles and nothing. We came in on fumes....
  3. At 85 you'll be drinking gas like a horse eating oats. The time you gain will be lost having to refuel more often.... My 2¢

    eBay glitch

OK This has nothing to do with the board, but just wondering. Is anyone else having a problem with eBay and the up/down and side scroll bar?? IT seems like I'll start looking around and then after a minute or two the scroll bar disappears and the screen locks up. All movement functions are non-op. This only happens with eBay. No other website. It's a PITA!!
  5. Of course you can always find another one cheaper, but you've known the bike since new, and what kind of care it's had. The original owner is taking it in the shorts for over 10 grand plus the add-ons. That's over 3 grand per year. I'd say the bulk of the depreciation has happened, and what you'd be getting is a really nice scoot. I'd look at it hard and long....
  6. I always have liked those Ten'rs ever since they came out. Now if'n I were 15 years younger.... WooHoo!!
  7. Your profile sez you have a '89VR, unless you've changed rides lately and haven't updated your info.. If it is the '89 put the bike on the center stand and look down below the water pump on the side of the engine block. It should be right there.... Now if it's a 2ndGen they are a PITA to view. I usually take a flashlight to brighten things up in the same area.. As long as the level is between the two lines on the glass you should be OK....
  8. First off Annie.... Happy Birthday!! Again... Second... among his many talents Puc is a poet. Not just any poet, but a good one...
  9. If the rotors were that delicate they'd be damaged all the time with the 10's of thousands of tires being changed. I can't remember ever seeing this subject mentioned on this board?? in the last ten years. And I'm sure there have been just a few dropped on, stood on, and other on's. And if it were that big of a problem I'm sure any dealer busting tires would know that, and handle them with kid gloves.... My 2¢
  10. I agree with everything Eck said above plus I'd like to add my 2¢. Let's say the sandpaper didn't melt. The pressure would be applied equally to the high and well as the low sections and the end result would be a thinner rotor, not plumb. Rotors have a slight warp to them from the git go. Maybe a couple of thousandths. What this does is push the pad away from the rotor surface and reduce drag and heat generation when the brakes are at rest. Without it the pad would continue to stay in contact with the rotor surface and cause premature wear... Granted, if the rotor has a big wiggle to it...it's time to replace. I still can't figure out how a shop can warp a rotor by just changing a tire?? Ka-ching..
  11. I also bought an '04RSV, with 65K on the odo, that the previous owner ran Amsoil Synthetic from day one. Just a few weeks ago while working on it I couldn't get it to go into 1st. Exact same symptoms as you had. However in my case the clutch fluid got low and I lost the hydraulics. Bled the clutch, which did look pretty black and needed it badly, and life was good again. I've also had other RSV's where a simple rocking back in forth in 3rd gear broke the plates free.
  12. Dan.. If it makes you feel any better, since misery loves company, I went thru the watery eyeballs about a month and a half ago, and I still wake up with a lot of crud in them. Takes a face douche to see where I'm going. There's some really strange chit going around lately....
  13. I heard on the news somewhere that it snowed in the Bahamas for the first time in recorded history..... In 1977.... :whistling:
  14. The way this works in the bigger places is... Tip on the CC goes to the restaurant. Cast tips left on the table are shared with the shift. Cash tips in the waiters hand are theirs to keep. This isn't absolute but what happens most of the time...
  15. Holy crap!! it was 85° yesterday.... and I feel great...
  16. Those were great fries...huh?? That's all I ever ate when in Hi School. Wet Fries and a Chocolate Coke while cruising at Henry's Drive-In. Yep, just like the one in American Graffiti. Rarely have had them since... They bring back some awesome memories... Now I'm siting here eating a bowl of Cookies and Cream ice cream with Maraschino cherries. Yumm!!
  17. The last two sets I had installed at my local 'Y' dealer ran $90 and $125. They needed the biz the first time..... Ride in, go have breakfast, come back 2 hrs later, and ride out.... Bought the E3 tires elsewhere....
  18. You're just not having a good day... Are ya'??
  19. I'm probably going to get into a lot of trouble for saying this here..... But it's another form of socialism and will eventually fail.....
  20. A couple of years ago that wasn't the case. The only pump offered on eBay was described to fit the Venture, and it had 10mm bibs. I'm glad to see they've ironed out the problem. Now if they hold up over time they'll be a winner?? One thing for sure they are a heck of a lot cheaper at $13 bucks. The one I picked up ran $34, which was still a bargain over OEM. I wonder if they have a shut off in them??
  21. I don't think so, but then who am I do ask. I've never tore into a 1st, and thankfully they don't go out as often as the 2nd's. Makes me sorta wonder...?? Why is it that 1st gen rear shocks and fuel pumps last, but 2ndGens don't?? Ya'da thunk Yamaha had heard of 'If it ain't broke don't fix it'....
  22. Mike, thanks for the link to the eBay pump, but I gotta ask. I bought one of these a couple of years back to take a look at it. I found the hose bibs were much larger than OEM... probably 10mm... and would have required a McGuiver. Does the one you picked up have the same size bibs as OEM?? If so they've made the mod and that's a heck of a deal at $13. I repair mine with the Japanese point set when one goes bad. I'd also be interested to get a report back on performance. I thought it was funny that they sold quite a few since you posted this...
  23. I'm with Carl on this one. Simple question. Did you remove the rods and ball when working on the clutch?? If you did they could be binding because they weren't put back in correctly.... Also the spring in the slave will keep enough pressure on the rods to keep them against the throw out bearing in the pressure plate and keep them snug. The hydraulic fluid is static until the lever is applied and has nothing to do with loose rods.
  24. The MkII clutch cover is higher than the MkI. The MKII will fit all years. The MKI's are 83-85 only...
  25. When I rebuilt the entire clutch system on my '83 I went with Barnet springs, and never a problem. Hooked up like Velcro.... :-) Now granted I probably didn't come close to tweeks, but I bet I did come close when packed up for a long ride... I'm not as svelte as some riders I know ...
