Newbee needs help

What it sounds like in the video is your running on 1 cylinder with the 2nd cutting in briefly. Change the plugs before doing anything else. If the problem persists with the air cleaner cover on, start at the top and work down through all the previous suggestions in this thread... and maybe a few still to come... -
Any trick of the trade?

One last thing. If you've never replaced your battery, or the one you have is pushing 5 years in age, replace it... I'm in the 'If it ain't broke... don't fix it' camp. Check the tires. Change the oils, plugs... sync the carbs and go for it..... One more thing. Every morning while on the trip check those Metzlers. With their history of throwing caps it would be the prudent thing to do. -
How do i get this off?

If it's anything like the cost of the water pump seals, gaskets, 'o' ring, and bearings on a 2ndGen, the parts are going to run you shy of $100.00 bucks from your local Y dealer.... if they still have them available. This stuff is not available from your local Napa store. Like Puc said the MKI's tend to run right at red line. As long as the fan doesn't kick on you're OK. -

If it were me I'd just patch it if it's leaking, or do some body work on it if it's just ugly. There's a silicon tape that can be used to wrap the elbow that works really well. Even on Radiator hoses. As long as everything else works I'd avoid pulling the pump and PM'ing everything. "Change light bulb...Rewire house" -
So you're saying that he had two misters mounted on the front of his fairing?? Interesting. Do you have a link to any article about it. I'd like to know more about his set up... We all have different methods of keeping cool ad nauseum, but this is the first hint so far to a mist system. OK I just did a search for something about Paul's cooling system. It seems to be refrigerant, not evaporative. http://www.longhaulpaul.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Cooling-system-1-1024x895.jpg Probably cost a lot more than a simple evap unit.... But for anyone interested here's his link http://www.longhaulpaul.com/2014/10/04/life-farkle-tester/

I've also seen one built into the helmet. I'm thinking this mister might cost a lot less to McGuiver....

One more thing to check just because.... The caps that are removed to sync the carbs. Check them for cracking?? Just siting around may have caused them to deteriorate.

I just watched a video on another board about a Death Valley ride in 109° on a trike. Can't be fun. With these unusual heat waves we've been having out west there are several threads covering riding in the heat. Been there a couple of times and don't want to go back. This got me to thinking... They used to sell a patio system that misted water into the air, and it did drop the temps 10-15 degrees. I wonder if something like that could be adapted to the front fairing of a trike. Maybe a couple of nozzles, a small 12vdc pump, and a water supply mounted somewhere on the bike. It would put some moisture back in the air and and might even cool things off while running down the highway. Years ago while messing around I took a water hose and turned the flow down very low. Then I blew compressed air thru the stream and pointed it at the wife and kids. They thought it was great, and really cooled things down. But I digress. Wonder if it would work on a trike... or maybe even a 2 wheeler??? My 2¢

After market mufflers

They're pretty close to fitting a 2ndGen, but with a first gen they'd need a lot of McGuivering... -
I've thought about doing that, but came up with one problem. I have it, and so do you. Someone could come along and lock the side door or ramp for that matter. There's no way to open it from the inside and you're locked in. The side door should have a lock that can be locked for the inside. If you'll look at midrsv's first couple of pics he has one that can be locked or opened from the inside. I own 4 enclosed trailers and they're all outies.. The next one's going to be an 'inny'...

I dropped by my local Harley shop to see if they had any take-offs laying around. I wanted Road Kings, and I thought that's what he gave me?? Wadda I know?? Put them on the RSV'04 and sweet Jesus they are loud. Attitude plus. They eventually are coming off to be replaced by a set of turn-downs. I can't complain since they gave them to me. Someday I'll have them for sale to someone who wants to be just plain nasty.... -
It fits right in there. All you have to do is make it a typo.... 'Course Kev, you already knew that didn't ya??

So far we've escaped this heat wave up here in NorCal. Don't get me wrong, we do get into the low to mid 90's but that bearable. It hit 112° while riding last year in VW Yreka, and that was a killer. I can't imagine what 120° would be like and don't want to find out....

I think it effects us all the older we get. I may be the senior citizen on this board or close to it.... The days when I'd ride everywhere.. to the post office..to the store.. pick the kids up from school.. to have a cup of coffee.. are long gone. Now I'm lucky to do a Venture West once a year. I still like to talk the talk, but not big on walk the walk... Even the VW's are not enjoyable any longer. It's always something. I used to have big plans on doing a western US ride-about for a couple of months, and visit family and friends spread everywhere. That's no longer possible. So all I can say, to those members over 60, go now while you have the desire. It's gonna fade fast.... Some will fade faster than others...

Great find!! I looked all over the place when I did mine, and finally shortened a 17mm allen wrench that I found at Sears. I took the short piece and glued it into a 15mm socket. I imagine you could do that to one of these too??
-
I used that method to remove both wheels on the 5x10 when I needed to buy new tires. Good idea! Never thought of using it as a theft deterrent.... Might be a good idea on our pull behinds too. Take them off and lock 'm inside the trailer.

That's cool. Let's kick it around a bit... How about a Sterling to charge house battery bank? With LED fixtures it could power the entire house... "My house get's 6 months per gallon!!" The draw back? A gallon of gas...or ethanol??.. will sky rocket in price. Gas stations will become obsolete. Utility company's will go the way of the dinosaur. Unemployment will go thru the roof. Electric car batteries might last forever since they will always be topped off. Etc.....

Heck yeah... Pitch the scoot. I cooler of bear. Some chairs. A Red Neck Patio!!!!!!! On a serious note. A full cooler up in front might give enough ballast to keep things from wagging around.... Worth a try??

I don't see where you could move the axle. You're going to have to move the fenders as well. Cutting a slot the width of the tire in the front cross member and reinforcing the area under the bed might work?? Some of things that do come to mind. The tongue looks smaller than 2" square, and there isn't any bike protection from junk flying off the rear truck tires. Check both the tire load rate, and the axle to make sure there's enough rating to handle the bike after tare weight. Personally I think the trailer would be great for a smaller lighter bike, but I think you're pushing the envelope using this one for an RSV...

Yep... got the same box when trying to log on.... Then I remembered reading something about the site being moved to a new server, and started to get anxious. The crash of '06 started out with the web host messing with our site... Glad to see its up and purring again. Taking deep breath... exhaling... Thanks Don...
