So I'm in the market for a new lid. I've read VentureFar's review of the Scorpion convertible but I would want to ride with the chin guard up most of the time given that is hotter than ol' Billy heck (as my dad would say) in Houston in the late summer. I wear a half egg shell now and there is no real air flow under the plastic. A couple of things I've found while digging through tons of marketing material first air flow is king, which we all knew. Second, the DOT rating on helmets leaves a lot to be desired and although the Snell rating is better well. . . . . These all boil down to so very basic tests as well as mostly relying on the manufacturers to be honest in their testing. There seems to be a new rating, at least for me, called FIM. It's causing a lot of stink with Snell and DOT because of the testing and requirements. To the point where Snell has posted that it is an unreasonable rating. I find this interesting as being an IT guy I see this all the time when a company losing the rat race belittles the guy who is right. Anyway, I am looking for thoughts on safety ratings, on the helmets you are using as well as recommendations. I do need to make a purchase soon, say in 30 - 45 days. Here are some items I'm looking for: It should be light. Air flow - a lot of it I'm bald and sweat a lot I would prefer a full face for cold weather riding too [*]I like the convertible idea but would it work at 80 MPH? [*]I would like to have a tinted internal visor also [*=1]I live west of my place of work so I ride into the sun both ways [*=1]I do wear photochromatic shades, non prescription from 7eye that I love.

1. how long have you had the Pitbull? I've had it roughly 8 or 9 years. 2. which model - air or hydraulic Hydraulic 3. pros - what do you like Lifts the bikes easily, even the heaviest bikes like the Ventures. Multiple bike adapters that can be made myself or adapted myself. Solid Construction. I expect to have this thing for a very long time. That's one reason I went with the Hydraulic version. The lift jack can be easily replaced. I also didn't want to fuss with the pneumatic version in the future. They are not interchangeable on my version Pretty Low profile although the SVTC sits low enough to push that Everything seems very stable even at the highest point. You can rock it but my son climbed on the bike while it was lifted like you see in their ad. He's about 200 lbs. I wouldn't do it because I'm 250 and a chicken @#$% LOL. The lift height is great for me. The older model seems to have more lift height than the current one. Only by a couple of inches though. Being able to roll the bike around or rotate it while on the jack is nice but I really have not done that much. My garage floor is very smooth and makes this easy. 4. cons - what don't you like Most of the add on items like the oil drain are geared for Harleys or Goldwings. Probably market driven Changing oil without a fabricated drain pan is a PIA. Especially on the SVTC with 3 drain plugs. I have spilled a lot of oil with it over the years. I need to fab a pan for it, I just have not made the time. Too many other projects and it's really more of an inconvenience than a necessity. [*]The low profile. I know I have it as a pro too but the con is moving it in/out of the garage. I have a 2" lip at the door and it obviously needs to be lifted to get it in and out. VERY MINOR issue now but as I get older who knows. I even use this jack when I wash the bike. It makes it so much easier to clean the rims and if I decide to pull the bags to really get in there and clean it's a breeze.

I have a pitbull which worked well with the '06 venture. The SVTC though requires a little more thought into jacking it up, like making sure the front is strapped before he front starts to relieve any pressure from the shocks.

Well I am another part of the Corona stats.

Sorry to hear anyone is out of work. I'm still working but with a 20% pay cut. Once this thing is over if pay is not returned to where it was pretty quickly I'll be on the market. I've had only 4 Full Time jobs in 35 + years and have not been with out some form of a job since I started delivering papers as a boy. Counting my blessings at the moment and wish all here a strong recovery. -
Ram x Mount for me too.

I don't call it anything other than a scam. 1.2 billion went to various government agencies and things like Museums. I won't put down my real feelings as I don't want to be the cause for a thread to be removed.

Non-bike related. Cooking ground meat in cast iron, general Q.
bpate4home replied to CaseyJ955's topic in Watering Hole
My parents only owned Cast Iron until I was in my teens then they got some non-stick. They were gone within a few months. Personally my wife had a good set of steal pans which we used forever but always had issues with sticking. About 20 years ago I went to an estate sale and there was this old nasty rusted cast iron 12" skillet. The lady only knew her dad had it his whole life. He just hadn't used it for a very long time and it sat in his garage. I bought it for 50 cents, best buy ever. Cleaned it up, seasoned it and started using it. It has been great. Only issue I had was getting it too hot once which forced a heavy cleaning and seasoning it again. When I cook any type of ground meat I always add bacon grease to the pan first. This helps a lot. I also use strained clean bacon grease when I do any steaks as I just like how they come out. I also like liver and onions, in cast iron man oh man. yum. No I'm wanting that even for breakfast. -
I changed mine on an '06 with out issue. I did not have to take the exhaust off but the bottom bolt required the use of a Ball Hex bit for the flexibility. Something like these which I used a T handle with them. https://www.harborfreight.com/38-in-drive-sae-long-reach-ball-head-hex-socket-set-7-pc-67885.html

I've only run Nexans during the last 10 years. That's all I'd be willing to testify to . I bought the SVTC a year ago. I just put on a second MC tire on it after 13K miles. My next tire will probably be a run flat CT.

I think you really want this:

Screwed up? Nah, just being human. The situation was human. Some stand around and gawk others jump in and help. Glad you and most here classify in the latter.

I thought they were introed in late 82, kind of like the 64 1/2 Mustang. That 1st gen is what made me fall in love with the Venture heritage. I was 16 when they first appeared in a dealership where I would get parts for my '81 400. I turned 17 in November. The dealer wouldn't let me test ride it because I was only 16.

I too have started with season 1 ep 1. Only 6 or 7 in though as I'm one of the few still in the office and not working from home. So far it's an interesting watch. You can tell she is somewhat new to the whole VLog thing. It will be even more interesting to see how she adapts and changes.

I had a wobble at 90-95mph. I bumped the pressure to 36 psi and it was smooth to 100. I ran 75 - 80 on the highways regularly.

I purchased this for my '06: Nexen SB802 165/80 R15 It matched the site tables on https://darkside.nwff.info/?p=tires

Road pegs on SVTC
bpate4home replied to DesertLawman's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Unfortunately I am too short for any road pegs I've seen so far. I've been looking at the Jac-Knife pegs as a solution but haven't pulled the trigger yet. These connect to the foot board. -
I replace my clutch using the Barnett spring replacement set. Did it in my garage. I don't mind working on stuff but would never classify myself as a gearhead. I did have my son who is a mechanic close by for comfort but it was super easy in my opinion. Go for it.
