  1. I love my 30 06 but it is a heavy rifle. I was able to hunt on a 5000 acre ranch with culling permits for a few years which is why I picked this rifle. I was able to drop a deer at 400 yds with 1 shot 90% of the time. I had to use it in a more wooded area a few times and with those close shots it would destroy a lot of good meat. I too have been considering a lighter lever action though and like the idea of a 30 30 with a good scope. As a side benefit it would be easier to pack on the bike too . Maybe a short overnight hunt, hmmm, now I gotta think about this. I won't have time this season but next year . . . . . .
  2. Happy New Year everyone. We would like to wish you all a prosperous and most importantly a safe and healthy year ahead.
  3. . We had one yesterday here in the Houston area. Both the car and the motorcycle caught on fire. It appears Motorcycle was speeding when the driver of the car made a left turn. It happened at ~3:30 am. It's sad whenever we hear stuff like this.
  4. LOL, I've told that by a lot of people but I call bearings evidence. I was still in HS when a group I rode withe handed me a hand full of #5 (1/2") stone. He called it road debris.
  5. I ride mine just about every day. They only time I don't is if I'm travelling for business or rain chances are above 40% when I'm going to or from work. I'm approaching 11K since I got the bike in late April. My experiences are much different. Most cages give me plenty of room, yes, there are those out there that are nuts but watching for them you can avoid most of them. A few have caught my by surprise. I've been riding in the Houston area now for ~8 years and only 2 real issues. Once a lady was merging on to the hwy in heavy traffic and was just oblivious. not on a cell that I could tell. A truck in the other lane saw what was happening and gave me plenty of room to ride the white line. I did reach over and knock on the driver's window. I thought she was going to pass out ;-). the other time in light traffic a guy in a new Cadillac CTS (still had paper plates) was on his phone texting kept coming over on me. I'd hit the horn and he'd move back and just look at me. The 4th time I kicked his door and dented it in. He move away and stayed away then.
  6. I had a Nexan on my 06 RSV and loved every minute on it. It was great in the torrential rains we get, yes I got surprised on the way home on more than one occasion. I had ~20K on the tire when the fuel pump went out on a long trip. the only shop in the area refused to work on the bike because it has a CT on it. I had to buy an MC for it too. It rode smooth and I had it at 36lbs. I got up to 100 MPH several times with no issues. It just ate up the Highways at 70 - 80 MPH. I now have the SVTC with ~11,000 on it. I will put one more MC tire on it more for warranty concerns but then I will go dark again.
  7. It's always sad to hear but in all honesty if we see anything in the news here about a MC fatality it's normally related to speed of the MC or the car that hits them. I just checked the stats and Texas as a whole had in 418 fatalities or incapacitating injuries on motorcycles 2018. About half were not wearing a helmet as we do not have any helmet laws. There were roughly 8700 accidents that involved a MC in 2017, 490 fatalities. Nearly 75% of the fatal accidents involved the rider being impaired. If you look at the other stats though Texas is 2nd in the country in the number of Fatalities per 10,000 bikes. Florida has the highest fatality rate followed by California, Texas and Pennsylvania. California has the most registered bikes followed by Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas. The lowest fatality rates (by 10K registered) are Montana, South Dakota, Alaska, New Hampshire and Minnesota. Here's the link to to an article with 2017 numbers. https://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/which-states-have-the-most-motorcycle-fatalities
  8. Sorry to hear. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Unfortunately this Christmas has been especially sad for our Friends all over. Several different parents and another friends brother passed all within the last week. Its are tough this time of year when family passes. My father-in-law passed on Christmas Eve day a little over 20 years ago.
  9. Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried to 3D print these types of replacements? I personally don't have a 3D printer to try buy I have a friend who uses his for fishing lures and just created a replacement plastic for his Honda.
  10. Merry Christmas to everyone.
  11. A very worthy bump too. :santa:
  12. Sounds like good news given the alternatives. Hope your feeling 100% soon.
  13. A friend wife rids a Honda 600 scooter. I was actually surprised at its giddy up. She rode it a long with a group of 750's, my venture Gen 2 and a Harley SoftTail Duece 1500. She had no problem keeping up at all.
  14. I've been here less than a year and I couldn't agree with you more. Wish I would have found the site when I had my gen 2. Great people and entertaining too. It would be good to see some of the drive by vsitors hang around a little longer and subscribe. There seem to be plenty here with other bikes too.
  15. LOL I get it. I love the fact that I can ride year 'round. Did it a long time ago in Ohio and that was no fun so this is great
  16. I'm game to test some for you . It's getting a little chilly here in Houston. Low of 40 the next couple of days .
  17. I'm about 35 miles outside the city and there's still a lot of open land but it is shrinking fast. I work in Downtown Houston and traffic can be atrocious. I've seen all 20+ lanes to a crawl and no accident. Big thing here is it's flat as can be and not a lot of twisties to enjoy, there are a few but not a lot. Even when you get into the San Antonio or Austin, what they call hill country, it's just that, hills. The twisted sisters/3 sisters are a good ride and there are a few others but after growing up in Ohio and riding since I was a kid we were a hop skip and a jump from the Appalachians where there are a ton of fun roads. Even getting lost in the Appalachians was fun
  18. Come to Houston. I10 west of Houston at one point now has 20+ lanes of local, main, toll and HOV. At the Beltway interchange it's a marvelous squirrelly patch of concrete.
  19. Yeah this one goes in the stupid category for me today but when I was a kid. . . . . . We used to have an ~10" log over a creek where I grew up about 10 - 12' across where we flattened the top. It was a 3 - 4' drop. We used it mainly when hunting but I did take my dirt bike across it a few times. Me and the bike fell off of it a few times too. Luckily the worst was a broken finger from that foolishness.
  20. Darn tree keeps getting in the way of those rocks
  21. I agree with Marcarl. I've been lucky and have had very few back issues. My wife on the other hand is a CNA and has severe back issues. At times to the point of needing assistance just trying to stand and walk. She tried all of these and the only thing that has provided consistent relief for her is a full on massage therapist, deep tissue style. When she was in some of the worst lower back pain the massage therapist was working a knot in her thigh and her shoulder. I would have never believed that would fix the lower back pain she was having but it did. The basic explanation from the therapist was that they all work in conjunction so a knot in your calf may help even a stiff neck. I figure that's a stretch but hey, her work has been a godsend for my wife.
  22. Took her for a spa day. Full treatment. Looks like new again with the exception of a few rock dings from the highway. Nearly 10K mi in the 7 - 8 months since I got her. Many baths in the middle but a professional detailer can do wonders compared to my efforts.
  23. Common sense is a forgotten art. Few have it and those that do are the real geniuses. I tried hard to instill it into my kids as common sense is just basic logical reasoning. So far so good. They have their moments but. . . . . for the most part they think about their actions.
  24. I've crawled under all but my first used car or truck we've purchased. I even carry a set of jack stands and floor jack when I go look at them. My dad taught me that the hard way. My first vehicle he let me buy from one of his 'friends' at a garage. They were both in on it as the rear main seal was blown. Fixable but not easy. Luckily they had already made the arrangements to allow me to fix with their guidance. I was 17 and was not allowed to use the garage lift.
  25. So the last couple of days my SVTC has shown an alert of 'High Wind Warning'. My first thought was that there is always high wind when I ride . In all seriousness though, I did notice the big rigs and SUV types floating in their lanes more than usual and finally felt a little push when I slowed down a little. I always felt the wind push my '06 RSV. Just more reasons I love this bike, it's smooth as _______.
