  1. I'm a huge history buff, especially the period from 1914-1945. I've seen this clip. I too am awestruck at the young men who kicked *ss and took names. I'm full of admiration and respect for these gentlemen.
  2. I've paid attention, used the search tool and taken notes on the often asked "what oil" topic. I see Shell Rotella is highly recommended and that is what I was looking for. Unless I wrote something down wrong in my notes I was looking for Shell Rotella T4 in the Blue bottle (synthetic). I cannot find that (T4 blue bottle) here in the Madison, WI area. I see T6 in a blue bottle but not T4. What's the difference? I have a feeling either one would work. In the meantime I got Castrol GTX Magnatec full synthetic 5W-30. I have not done my oil change yet but plan to soon. Did I miscue on the Rotella notes? 2007 RSV.
  3. My previous bike was an 1100 V Star. As others mentioned, I'll also brake sooner, coming to a smoother stop, especially if I have the added weight of Mrs. H. I've learned to use a little more rear brake than I used to. That helps me but others may disagree. I also soften the front suspension and stiffened the rear a bit. I'm 5'6" so I don't have much room for error if it starts tipping. I've dropped mine only one time (so far) and that was while trying to back into a parking spot my foot slipped on sand. Luckily, I escaped with no damage to the bike.
  4. Only $150? Wow! I thought the price would be much higher. It does sound intense and something I have considered. I'll practice maneuvers on his videos before I travel (also from Wisconsin) to Florida for his class. I've no timeline just yet.
  5. That panned out just how I thought it would. However, the Wolf kept it close for quite awhile.
  6. I've toyed with this idea too. I'm 5'6". I can flat foot when I have good hiking or riding boots on, so I've decided I'm OK with that. I think I've got 45 pounds in the rear shocks and zero in the front. I know for sure the front is zero. My wife is the same height but heavier than I, ergo, I've no problem when riding two-up. I have thought about the seat mod that I believe someone on this forum does. I'm just nervous about altering the seat because I do not want to upset the comfort of the bike/seat. I can ride all day without getting a sore butt. Stock seat, that speaks volumes in my book.
  7. I'm sorry to read this. Hoping for an uneventful recovery.
  8. You have my sympathy, that is very rough. My wife's mother passed similarly. Healthy & feeling good one day, a week later we're mourning her unexpected passing. Just being there for your brother will speak volumes.
  9. FWIW: my son just put these Shinkos on his 05 RSTD. He loves them, says they really hug the road. I know others who have used them. I'm leaning toward Dunlop E3 or E4s when I replace but will definitely have to consider Shinkos.
  10. One of my riding buddies has an 06 RSTD and he rides with shorts on very often. He has not mentioned anything about hot spots on the bike.
  11. At the time I worked 2nd shift as an Emergency Dispatcher for a Police Department. I was about to walk my daughter & son who were both grade school age, to school. I had the news on, listening to reports of the first crash. Suddenly the second tower was hit by a plane. I called the kids to the TV right away and told them to watch the replay that I knew would be pending. They watched and when I said that was no accident my daughter, the older of the two asked why someone would do that? All I could think of for a reply is that "Someone or some country is very angry with our country." Upon returning from walking them to school I continued watching the news. I was standing, watching when the first tower came down. My body went cold, my knees collapsed and I literally fell into the sofa. I knew life as we knew it had changed dramatically.
  12. This is horrible! My heart aches for you. Let me share a quote for you that has helped me in rough times. After the death of his son Abraham Lincoln said, "With time, we will be happy once again." Hang in there bro!
  13. I saw pics with that link. Is that through the Tech Forum directly? I typically surf through the "What's New" tab when I log in. Thanks for the help.
  14. Very true! I ride my Venture and know how it rides and handles. I ride my son's RSTD and I don't really like it. Very little difference between the two but I'm used to mine and have become more comfortable on it.
  15. Why don't I see any pictures? Apparently others do. Admin, suggestions on settings?
  16. Yikes! This sounds very similar to a situation a friend of mine finds himself. He has not ridden all year, and very little last year as well. Good luck to you getting it nailed down.
  17. I'm sorry to read of this. I feel your pain as I lost my Father this past December after a long illness.
  18. I was grade school aged. My Mom and my Dad always made sure us kids were aware of events such as this. I remember watching it while sitting on the livingroom floor. I was a bit young to totally understand but did realize that the way *everyone* was talking about it, it must be a pretty big deal. Indeed it was!
  19. This is a good question that I'll be following. At 5'6" I don't quite reach flat footed unless I'm 2 up. I love the seat though (07 RSV pillow top) as I can ride all day without getting sore. Therefor I am nervous about modifying it.
  20. I had a similar situation with my car a couple years ago. I've always gotten stellar service except for this one time. I went back and discussed the situation. They did what they had to do in order to make my situation right. Plus I got some free service for my inconvenience. Moral: Don't drop your mechanic over one goof up. Talk to him and give him a chance to "make it right."
  21. I'm very sorry to read of another such loss. At least he hit a big item on his bucket list. Thoughts and prayers to his family.
  22. This is funny, Flyinfool. My dad always said almost the same thing when ordering a steak at a restaurant. Then he'd say, "Bring a bottle of iodine along, I want it to have a fighting chance to heal."
  23. Ya, $12 per year is peanuts. The info shared and gained is well worth that. I can spend that and don't even have to ask the wife.
