I won’t buy a helmet without trying it on. Too many variations out there. I’ll pay extra at a brick and mortar store. Same way with shoes.

Yep we camp a lot, this is the wife’s idea of roughing it. She ain’t sleeping on the ground.

Do you know the model of yours? I don’t use ear plugs so noise does matter for me, one of the reasons I’m asking for input. We’re gonna go try some on this week but we’ll have to travel some to do it. There’s only one shop here and it’s limited.

HJC has been our helmet of choice for the same reason, the 3/4s are HJC. Fitment and weight are an issue for us, we both have some neck issues. It’s amazing how one pound extra affects me. HJC are also more affordable than some others but with a good safety history. Not interested in those $59 modulars on ebay. Truth be told I’ll probably stick with 3/4, to the dismay of Dr. Daughter. She’s been trying to park me or get me in full face for a few years. I’m often reminded of my age, mileage on my bones, etc from her.

If I remember correctly the VMax is a lower ratio than the Virago. Swapping it would INCREASE rpm’s. The torque would be awesome though. Same reason we swap on the Ventures.

When I started riding again several years ago I had to make the concession to wear a helmet to keep the other half happy. We’ve been using 3/4 helmets so we can ride with the shield open and drink on the road. With our recent incident she’s mentioning full face, that kills being able to have a drink. I’ll go modular before full face. I typed all that to ask if anybody is familiar with the HJC I90 modular, the weight isn’t much more than our 3/4s.

I suggest printing that part of the manual, it helped having it with me. If I’m diving into something I’ve never done I like the printed pages instead of having my book there. I can refer to it with greasy hands and then toss it. Like I said earlier it’s not too bad of a job.

Ok Rooster I hope this helps. On the right side beside the headlight you’ll see a bundle of round plugs like this. The zip tie holding them has a release tab, open the tie and find the cable with the red tape marker. Unplug that plug and plug your cable in between them, it’ll only fit one way. The small wire coming off the Buddy cable will route to the voice in device you’re using, Garmin GPS or in my case a Bluestreak. The voice out from that device will go to the Aux input coming from the cassette player, you can buy a 3.5mm splitter to use there to keep the Aux on dash working. That’s the short version. If you have Mic-Mutes they plug in the same place, it makes a difference which order they go. Make sure to test everything before closing the fairing. At this point you should be able to talk on the phone thru a wired helmet. In my case I have Mic-Mutes, Bluestreak, Amplirider, and a Bluetooth receiver all connected so it looks a little crazy in there. Tape plug connectors to keep it dry. Yep it’s always their fault, I think I’ll blame my recent incident on Yamaha for not providing stronger windshield mounts to hold the aftermarket windshield blade they had to have known I was gonna use 15 years after the bike was built. The blade manufacturer for using a material strong enough to break my teeth should get part of the blame, the landowner that let the grass grow that provided habitat for the bird I hit owes me something. The state should’ve made the road wider for more reaction time and put up bird crossing signs. I bet I could find a lawyer that’d sue all of them never taking into account my actions or acts of God. I could be rich!!!!!!!😁😁😁I’d probably lose the the lawsuit because I have a car tire on my bike and as everyone knows by reading the darkside posts insurance won’t pay for a bike with a car tire so now it’s my fault. 😩😩😩. Maybe I can sue the tire manufacturer because it’s not stamped in the sidewall “NOT FOR MOTORCYCLE USE”. 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰 OK I’ll quit.

I caught a large bird that pulled my windshield out of the fairing straight into my teeth. Lots of dental work, minor damage to the bike but to major priced items.

Ok I can’t find a write up like I thought, guess I printed off that part of the manual. I tore it down one afternoon and finished it the next.

There is an excellent witeup of the job somewhere in the tech library I used when I did mine. The one thing I did was to hang the inner fairing from the ceiling to keep it out of the way but not completely remove it. It isn’t a bad job to get into. Getting the lower race out is the hardest part, I went from the bottom and welded a cross bar in the race and knocked it out easily.

For those of us that shop in the big n tall shops smaller bikes just don’t work. I had someone tell me a few years ago my bike looks too small for me. I’m not comfortable folded up on a smaller ride.

I used a Mr Gasket pump from Oreilly’s on my 1st gen. Took a little plumbing but worked.

Took the fairing off, took pictures for the insurance company. Both fairing halves have minor damage, but I’m afraid they’ll want to total it since the inner isn’t available anymore. Add on the windshield, chrome trim, and labor it won’t be cheap. I’ll repair it all myself if it works out right.

I see what the dealer offered but not an asking price.

It’s an E1 but a 94 model, was just rarely used. It’s a custom body build and has miles of wiring. We tried to send it to E1 for a complete rewire/rebuild but they say no. The technology is too old. The local college actually bought it for us because their dorms weren’t sprinkled back then. There was a fatal arson fire in a dorm in 98, that truck pulled students out that day. They then sprinkled all dorms soon after and now are phasing out all high rise dorms.

Good reminder, I tell people losing bolts can cost you your nuts.

Have you checked the neck bearings themselves? Yamaha is known for very little grease there, after I replaced mine it rode like a new bike.

We took a 105’ tower truck out of service recently because of electrical/electronic issues. As it was a custom built truck there are no diagrams or graphics to go by to track the issues. It’s all to do with the ladder movement not the engine. 18,000 miles on it and it’s being sold for scrap. To replace it is $1.3 million, we don’t have the budget so we do without. CORRECTION: they’ll do without, I’m retiring next month.

I still use my phone when I need GPS. Even in the vehicles I use it thru Apple Play instead of onboard navigation.

I wonder how much the set up affects it. I’m running a 150 front Shinko and the Nexen with leveling links raising the rear 1-1/4”. I don’t feel any wobble until over 90mph. I don’t ride like that anymore anyway. It handles great everywhere from twisties to interstate.

Went and installed an old shield yesterday and rode it home. Took the front end apart and found minimal damage to the fairing. One screw hole on the outer broke out around a windshield screw and the inner flanges broke where the shield bracket bolts to it. From what I understand mine was one of the few that hadn’t broken at the bracket bolts. More of the tabs on the chrome strip under the shield broke. Insurance took pics, we’ll see where that goes. Talked to Clearview, they are good on stock so I’ll order the shield soon. Teeth are healing and tightening well, pain has been minimal. Really the worst part is eating canned soup and apple sauce watching wife n kid eat pizza🤣🤣.
