Kris and I have a new addiction and it's pursuit led to a 6 hour CTFW therapy session yesterday. I had been wanting to get Kris a Kitchenaid stand mixer for a while. I found the Kitchenaid Factory Refurbished page on eBay, and the Mr. Mixer channel on youTube. Once I realized how easy and inexpensive it is to repair/refurbish these mixers, I went on a reconnaissance mission perusing eBay, FB Market Place and Craig's list for bench fodder. Kris want's to rent a table at a local indoor flea market and sell refurbs and offer repair service. We'll see how it goes. Anyway, we set out yesterday morning on the '06 and chased down garage sales and estate sales till 5:00pm. We ended up with our sixth tilt head mixer, some bowls and attachments, a set of Devilbliss air tools, and a RoboVac. Here's the Kitchenaid herd: And our "keeper" We'll probably gift the kids with refurbished mixers for birthdays this year. It's a surprisingly satisfying endeavor to tear one of these down, clean/repair/re grease/re assemble it back to like new condition.

There is a soldered buss/terminal strip on the CLASS control board that , notoriously has cold solder joints. If your CLASS doesn't power up in ACC position, or shows an error code(ER3, I think), it's probably a bad solder joint. -
I know a couple people who have wrapped the air cleaner covers on the Gen 2s. I've not heard of anyone wraping the fairings but, I don't see any reason why it would not be doable.

Condolences on your loss. May your little brother rest in peace.

I used to say that I wanted to go down in an 80 mph low side slide with a rebel yell into my grave. Now that I have grand kids, I'm thinking I might hang around long enough to have to face the day I can't ride anymore. I have to admit, I'm not looking forward to it.

Rotella T5 is a synthetic heavy diesel oil. OP, it's possible that those clutch discs were previously soaked with non deisel oil. As Marcarl stated, standard automobile motor oil has friction modifiers and detergents that are bad for the clutch friction plates. And, hard to counter act. They may be toast even though they measure correct.

Harbor Freight is your freind! -
Scotch of the single malt variety from the Islay region seems to work for me.
-
I also found that adding some Lucas to the oil helped smooth the shifting and made finding N a bit easier.
-
If it has been hard shifting for a long time, is there any chance the shifting fork(s) may have bent?

Black Cherry went to the dark side today. A new Nexen tire mounted and installed today. Thanks Ronnie! (he talked me into it without knowing it). For anyone out there who is mounting their own, spend the money on the NoMar mount/dismount tool. It's worth every penny. This was by far the easiest time I've had changing a tire, ever. I also installed a rebuilt rear shock. Thanks Fitz! And new rear brake pads. Thanks Earl! And a new AGM battery. Thanks Amazon! And fresh oil and filter. Thanks AutoZone! And, she got her annual bath and wax job. Thanks ME! I was also going to replace the stock rear brake rotor as it has well over 100k miles and is fairly worn, though not rough. Unfortunately, there were two mounting screws that refused to break loose. I ended up stripping the socket with the impact driver trying get them out. So, the old rotor stays another season at least. The dark side maiden voyage was a tremendous success. With new(ish) rear shock and the Nexen tire, she rides like a brand new bike. The rear shock has been dry since I got her, so I had gotten used to the bounce. Not going to miss it!

I finally got the rear brake master cylinder rebuilt and working on the '86. Bled the rear caliper, at the steering head and left front caliper. She stops again! Then I posted her up for sale on FB Market Place.

Today I removed the rear wheel and rear shock in preparation to Darkside and send the shock off to Dave for rebuild. I'm sick of the bounce! Unfortunately, in the process I manage to destroy one of the muffler gaskets and bust the Schrader valve off the air line to the shock. I have a new battery and the Nexen rear tire on order for delivery by Friday. I'm not sure how big a deal the busted Schrader is...

Has anyone ever used any Petlas tires in any application? Manufactured in Turkey.

When my son ditch his Maxim 750 at low speed, the fork tubes bent enough to cause misalignment. We just replaced the entire triple tree assembly for belt and suspenders insurance.

I might be interested in swapping. I love the pillow top, but it's just a little stretch for me to flat foot. What doe s the Buttler seat look like? Is it sill softer or is it hard like the Corbin? BTW, did you like that Corbin?

Does anyone know what this tripod would be used for? The legs extend independently and the center shaft is a friction fit with a thumb screw clamp. The whole thing is much lighter than it looks like it would be. This is a legacy item. It came with the "new" house.
-
For future reference; The dummy bolt on the center cover is the same bolt as the shifter bolt. It does nothing but fill a hole on the center cover.

RSV Repaired Rear Shock 2000 Mile Update
luvmy40 replied to dfitzbiz's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Fitz has a tool he built to pull the shaft out to access the O-Ring. I'm not sure about the clip removal. You could PM dfitzbiz about it. I plan on pulling my rear shock here soon as well. It's been pogoing for a while.
