  1. Black Cherry went to the dark side today. A new Nexen tire mounted and installed today. Thanks Ronnie! (he talked me into it without knowing it). For anyone out there who is mounting their own, spend the money on the NoMar mount/dismount tool. It's worth every penny. This was by far the easiest time I've had changing a tire, ever. I also installed a rebuilt rear shock. Thanks Fitz! And new rear brake pads. Thanks Earl! And a new AGM battery. Thanks Amazon! And fresh oil and filter. Thanks AutoZone! And, she got her annual bath and wax job. Thanks ME! I was also going to replace the stock rear brake rotor as it has well over 100k miles and is fairly worn, though not rough. Unfortunately, there were two mounting screws that refused to break loose. I ended up stripping the socket with the impact driver trying get them out. So, the old rotor stays another season at least. The dark side maiden voyage was a tremendous success. With new(ish) rear shock and the Nexen tire, she rides like a brand new bike. The rear shock has been dry since I got her, so I had gotten used to the bounce. Not going to miss it!
  2. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/664046968224295/ A link to my FB Market Place selling my 1986 Venture. It listed as an '86 RSV with an automatic transmission! FB will not let me change it. Or, more likely I am just to stupid to figure out how to change it!
  3. I finally got the rear brake master cylinder rebuilt and working on the '86. Bled the rear caliper, at the steering head and left front caliper. She stops again! Then I posted her up for sale on FB Market Place.
  4. 5 US qt total, 4 US qt @ oil change with new filter. Gen 1 MK2 oil spec.pdf
  5. Today I removed the rear wheel and rear shock in preparation to Darkside and send the shock off to Dave for rebuild. I'm sick of the bounce! Unfortunately, in the process I manage to destroy one of the muffler gaskets and bust the Schrader valve off the air line to the shock. I have a new battery and the Nexen rear tire on order for delivery by Friday. I'm not sure how big a deal the busted Schrader is...
  6. https://www.amazon.com/Petlas-Elegant-Summer-Touring-Tire-165/dp/B00HVFQM9A/ref=sr_1_2?crid=FV9NV1RT7PSH&keywords=NEXEN%2BSB802%2BAll-Season%2BTire%2B-%2B165%2F80R15%2B87T&qid=1685180582&sprefix=nexen%2Bsb802%2Ball-season%2Btire%2B-%2B165%2F80r15%2B87t%2Caps%2C73&sr=8-2&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc&th=1 I'm going to the Darkside this season and found this when searching for the Nexen tire. Has anyone ever used any Petlas tires in any application? Manufactured in Turkey.
  7. When my son ditch his Maxim 750 at low speed, the fork tubes bent enough to cause misalignment. We just replaced the entire triple tree assembly for belt and suspenders insurance.
  8. I might be interested in swapping. I love the pillow top, but it's just a little stretch for me to flat foot. What doe s the Buttler seat look like? Is it sill softer or is it hard like the Corbin? BTW, did you like that Corbin?
  9. Does anyone know what this tripod would be used for? The legs extend independently and the center shaft is a friction fit with a thumb screw clamp. The whole thing is much lighter than it looks like it would be. This is a legacy item. It came with the "new" house.
  10. She's doing great. I have to tell her to slow down and not over do it all the time!
  11. For future reference; The dummy bolt on the center cover is the same bolt as the shifter bolt. It does nothing but fill a hole on the center cover.
  12. I have a set of these on my '06. My wife loves them, they look great, they work perfectly, the build quality and materials are top notch, and the WOLO Bad Boy tucks in on them nicely. Not to mention, Cpl. Newkirk😉 is just a good guy all around.
  13. Fitz has a tool he built to pull the shaft out to access the O-Ring. I'm not sure about the clip removal. You could PM dfitzbiz about it. I plan on pulling my rear shock here soon as well. It's been pogoing for a while.
  14. I have a Chicom eBay back rest I'm not using that works OK, It's yours for the cost of shipping if you want it.
  15. Not every year, but I've read most of them 2 or 3 times. Except for the reference books. We did pare down the collection by about 150 volumes when we moved into the smaller house.
  16. I just remembered that I never posted any pics of the final product. Well, almost final. I still need to paint the base mold, but the books and mess have all migrated to their new home.
  17. This kind of project doesn't take any kind of special talent or skill. The right tools make it easier, but it's more applied engineering than artistic.
  18. I finished the Garden Arbor that I started last weekend. I wanted to give Kris something to enjoy and get rid of the old, half rotten gate posts(sans gate) that had been spanning the brick path to the back grove. It's made from construction grade 2 x 4 and 2 x 6, with a couple 5/4 deck boards as well.
  19. I wish I had room for a punch press! A few years ago the company I work for sold a Wiedemann turret punch for a couple hundred dollars. Basically scrap price. I just have nowhere to put one.
  20. The optics world has exploded in the last 20 years. My bench rest .308(I sold it to buy my '06 RSV) sported a Trijicon AccuPoint 5-20 x 50 and it was worth the discounted price I paid for a gun show display model. I'm not sure I'd pony up the $1600.00 they go for new at this time. This Osprey Global 3-9 x 40 MD has a good reputation in the bargain level scopes and does seem, at first glance to be well made. The rings it came with are junk, at least it came with rings. The glass is very clear and the Mil Dot reticle is crisp. The windage/elevation adjustments are 1/4 MOA/click and the detent is distinct but not too aggressive. The knobs can be reset to show zero at your discretion. Only range time will tell if it's durable/reliable. The MSRP is $169.00, I paid $125.00 for it at a gun show in Birmingham. I've never seen them in any retail store but there is always an Osprey Global vender at every gun show I've been to. They have an elite series which have FFP available, but you are back into the $1,200.00 range for them. Vortex glass has a spectacular reputation, though their prices have risen along with that reputation. I've never used anything but their red dots. I had a Leapers(UTG) BugBuster on an AR15, 5.56 for a few years and it was actually quite nice. I just decided to stick with red dots on my ARs and gave the BB to my son in law.
  21. I just finished converting the RAP (Ruger American Predator) to accept AICS mags, lapped the scope rings, leveled and mounted the scope. I'll get it bore sighted tomorrow, but the weather looks like a no go for the range this week end.
  22. Drain the fuel tank and refill with good gas. If it sat for any length of time with ethanol in the fuel, it's garbage. Check/replace the fuel filter. Verify the fuel pump is working. Do a compression test. Synchronize the carburetors with a four channel manometer. Have the valve shims ever been adjusted? How many miles on the clock?
  23. As it turns out, there was a pretty large gun show here in Birmingham this weekend. I didn't find a better deal on the rifle, but I did find a good price on an Osprey 3-9 x 40 glass. I've never owned Osprey before but they are supposed to be a decent, budget optic. US owned. US and Japanese(glass) parts. Assembled in China. After the gun show, I went to get the Ruger American Predator in .308 at the shop by my hotel. After a bit of a SNAFU, the salesman didn't seem to know if he could sell a long gun to an OH resident. I educated him on the current laws and pulled up some corroborating evidence from the interwebz, and a few minutes later I was in possesion of a new rifle. He appologized and offer a few nice little freebee cleaning items and a discount on a very nice looking OTF knife. The planer will have to wait until my next unexpected bonus!
