  1. So, HD announced some new models today. A 1250cc, 60 deg. liquid cooled V Twin "adventurer" KTM style ATC called the Pan America. A 975cc, liquid cooled V Twin, naked street fighter and a scramble/flat tacker with the same Liquid cooled 60 deg. V Twin. Along with a few electric cycles, including the Live Wire. One YouTube commentator(angry muskrat or wild hedgehog, or something) voiced the thought that maybe HD would now bring out something with a V4, liquid cooled engine in one of those models as they have a patent for the engine already. How bizarre would it be if the 2018 Venture is an air cooled V Twin and HD puts out a liquid cooled V 4 sport bike in 2020?
  2. The Beast is happiest around 4k but will cruise at 2k and accelerate smoothly if not rapidly to 3k or so and then she screams. I found that cruising at 5k is not a problem and acceleration from there is instantaneous. One of these days I'm going to pick up a V Max and see what this power plant is truly capable of. ETA: BTW, my fuel economy does not seem to vary much with different riding styles. Loaded and two up makes a drastic difference.
  3. Let the Spending( and wrenching) commence! Keep us posted!
  4. This was my first thought; If you need lighted controls, get off the gold wing and ride your Venture! All kidding aside. It would be fairly easy to add a small LED aux lamp to the switch cluster on each bar but back lighting would be a challenge. I haven't seen any kind of after market controls for the Gen 1 bikes. But the Gen 2s were around a lot longer. There may be such a thing for them.
  5. This may or may not be related to cimmer's problem. Another forum I frequent is having major problems with the Firefox browser. It displays the forum in a windows explorer type bullet point tree format with few graphics and no navigational tools. It displays and operates normally on Chrome and Brave browsers.
  6. Thanks! It was a bit of a fight to get it open and I was sure I was going to break something, but it finally popped. It's all cleaned, lubed and working properly again.
  7. I've tied squeezing, shifting the cover right and left, nothing helps. I'll check out prairiehammer's linked thread.
  8. People who have never used paypal may not realize that you do not need a paypal account to make a payment through paypal. This sentence reminds me o a Monty Python skit.
  9. There are a couple bungee cords but nothing else inside. The lock cylinder doesn't feel tight or jammed. It turns freely from lock to set and then just stops short of unlocking.
  10. The '83 TCI is unique. If the Engine and carbs are '83 but the TCI is '84 the boost should go to the intake boot and the vac port on the No. 2 carb body should probably be capped off.
  11. Do you have the '83 or '84 TCI? The boost needs to be connected to the No. 2 carb vac port with the '83 TCI. I do believe it needs to be on the intake manifold/boot on all other years. Don't take my word for it. There will be others here who know for sure.
  12. That's where the vacuum line for boost sensor connects on the '83. Is the '84 boost supposed to be there as well? I have no idea if it is supposed to be used, capped or if it should not be there on the '84. Any chance a PO put '83 carbs on?
  13. Out of the blue today my left bag won't unlock. The key only turns 1/8 past "Set" and it refuses to rotate any further. The key woks on all other accessory locks and has never been an issue before. I have three keys and they all wok everywhere but the left bag lock. Any ideas on how to get this open?
  14. It was two days ago, but; I finally washed The Beast. My worst fear was not realized. None of my repaired bits of plastic disintegrated she didn't start leaking oil from every gasket! It did highlight all the worn clear coat and minor scuffs and scratches. All the repair rivets are nice and shiny now as well. BTW, I was caught in the rain yesterday, so the old adage holds true.
  15. OK, Did you all change your lens when you went LED? I tried LED H4 lamps and got all spill and no throw. It was very bright out to about 15 feet but did not project down the road at all. The ditch, on coming lane and the tree tops were very well lit though.
  16. I think I finally got everything dialed in. I set the pilot circuits with my Gunsen Colortune and changed the spark plugs out with DPRE7EA-9 NGKs then synchronized the carbs. This is the first tuning since I got the exhaust leak fixed. She's running great. Excellent acceleration from the hole and nice engine breaking. I would love to see what the EGA reads but none of the local Yamaha shops have a working unit and the only performance shop I can find that has one wants serious geld for the EGA/Dyno testing. Oh well. I'll just have to be happy with God Enough!
  17. My '82 XJ750 Maxim has a similar bar system and they have the same milled recessed "slots" as the Venture bars. I've never seen any thing made for them. I think they are simply an aesthetic design feature rather than a functional one.
  18. Yeah, I burned up the new rear Shinko That came with The Beast much faster than I thought possible. It went from brand new to blow out in about 3K mi.
  19. Don, I'm telling you that MagLight was there before the party started. It's yours. It's just the Alzheimer's setting in.
  20. Take this with a grain of salt as I do not ride a second gen bike. I have read at least two threads where removing the lower fairings on a second gen bike caused air intake issues and poor performance.
  21. Sylvester, That was mine that was sticking at MD. It's all good now.
  22. So, why does there seem to be such an aversion to the Morgan Carb Tune here? I've been using mine for 10 years with only one minor issue a few weeks ago that was easily fixed. One channel was lagging in response. It took 2 minutes to take it apart, clean the rods and bushings and put it back together and it works like new.
  23. Just another opinion. Take it for what it costs you. My Gen 1 Mk 1 is the first(only) bike I've ever ridden that has linked brakes. I've logged many thousands of miles on HDs with rear drum brakes and no front brakes at all. I've logged many thousands of miles on rear drum and single front disc bikes. I've logged many thousands of miles on rear disc and dual front disc bikes. I have about 10K miles on the Venture. All without a major incident caused by my application of the brakes or a lack of braking power. Heck, I rode several hundred miles on the Venture with just the un linked front caliper working with no issues. Not that I'd recommend it. Though it took me a little time to get my head wrapped around the concept, I like the linked brakes. I don't see the system as weak. I have plenty of stopping power. If I'm in gravel or sand, light application of the pedal seems to work fine. I suppose if I get into a situation where I'm moving too fast for the surface, the linked brakes could be a detriment. It hasn't happened yet.
  24. I've seen a few who said they get 40-42 mpg. Ive gotten as high as 39mpg(on one tank, tuned very lean), but average 36mpg +/- on my '83.
