A picture would help a lot here.

Kevin If you will heading across I80, our first gas stop is at the "Chicago Southland Lincoln Tollway Oasis" on I80/I294 at around 6:00am. There is a LOT of construction to get thru coming south out of WI so it is hard to predict exact travel time. I get lousy gas mileage pulling the trailer so I have to plan for stops at around 100 +/-20 miles. Sometimes my marshmallow butt or a DQ will dictate more often........ Did you know that there is a DQ in every rest stop thru Indiana? I hit every single one of them last year...... Randy I Was hoping to be at the Bob Evens restaurant on HY2 by Toledo at around 10:00 am.

This was the last one that I heard of. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=763340&postcount=9 Sounds like there will be at least 2 of us coming from WI.

Battery you might be able to rig to run off of bike power. Then you just need a fist full of SD chips. Just don't confuse the SD chips with the potato chips,,,,,,

I have always been assured that I got it right.

Do I need a new stator???

Assuming that that little piece of bent wire that they call a shaft is actually there. It could have been left out. -
That's why I wear TRI focals. I is really old, but not so old that there was ever a problem finding the right spot.

I am not sure that a "peanut bulb" and a H3 are the same thing, I think you are thinking of the 35W H3 style bulb that is used in most lighting. I have never heard of the H3 referred to as a "peanut bulb". The "peanut bulb" is normally used to refer to the 194 type bulb like what is in the instrument panel lighting. Larry Do you know which beam pattern you have on those 10W LEDs?
-
Good thing you did not lump me in with the "light experts"........ Ya they could be made to work. A 5 Watt peanut bulb is very little light, that would make these for show, not for useful light. BUT if they meant to say a 50 watt bulb, that would be different. These are the ones I am looking at to mount near the front axle. http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/mini-auxiliary-lights/2-square-10-watt-led-mini-auxiliary-work-light--square/1362/

Solo camping trip

A bike cover may be the best option. Sometimes out of sight out of mind works. A cover with a couple of grommets at the bottom for a lock will be enough to stop those that might yield to temptation by removing the temptation. There is nothing that will stop a thief that wants your stuff. Where I work there are always people floating thru the parking lot looking for an unlocked car, they will smash a car window to take $0.50 that was left on the center console. They typically will not break the window if they see nothing worth taking. -
New Post time limit?

Its not actually my cabin, it belongs to a friend. It is in Iron county MI north of Iron River. But we still drive back down to WI to chase deer in Vilas. Around Star Lake. -
New Post time limit?
Flyinfool replied to icebrrg3rd's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
I have noticed the same thing. I don't know if it is just a timer or a time of use timer type of thing. It seems that as long as I do not take a lot of time reading on any one post and keep clicking along, that it will let me keep looking for several hours. If I have been gone for more than a day, I start at the back and work forward in time. I try to make it far enough that "Todays posts" will bring up the rest when I get the dreaded "search not found". While scanning the threads I try to just take note of those that I really want to read so that after I have glanced thru all of them. I can then go back and find the ones that I need/want to spend some time in. Typing a reply will really eat up your timer. Especially if you type like I do. When I head up to the cabin there is no telephone, no Internet, not even cell phone coverage, or TV service of any kind. And I love it that way. But it means that I have some catching up to do when I return to "civilization". -
At least they got this one. I have had to blow thru a red light a couple of times when it was apparent the car behind me was not going to stop or even slow down. I watch my mirrors like a hawk.

There is a good chance you will need to replace everything rubber. Especially the tires.

Do I need a new stator???
Flyinfool replied to Jayceesfolly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If it measures zero, that means that it is shorted to ground. Having one winding shorted to ground would also agree with your ohm readings where one is lower, and agree with your voltage readings where one is low. With the stator unplugged from the RR the battery voltage has nothing at all to do with the AC stator voltage readings. I just bought a high output stator for my 88, If you want the old one that is working at the moment, once I can take it out, let me know. The stator and RR can damage each other, a bad stator can take out a RR and a bad RR can take out a stator. Depending on the failure mode of each. -
Need some electrical input
Flyinfool replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I got my LEDs from SuperbrightLEDs.com. Mine are the 45 LED towers. They are not the cheapest, but do have quality stuff. I have thousands of their LEDs in various projects and have never had a single issue. When you replace the turn signals with LED you will have to either change the flasher unit or add load resistors. The running lights and brake / tail lights can be changed to LED with no issues. There is someone making a brake/tail light conversion that is made specifically for the RSV. -
Besides, I know you will make it to MD one way or another, cuz that's where my rum balls will be..........

Headlight problems
Flyinfool replied to lwinders's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
First you need to check the correct wires for voltage. Green is not the common. Black is the ground Green with red stripe is Low beam Yellow with green stripe is High beam. Although you did do a check from green to black witch is a valid check and the voltage seen is not correct. Also check the black wire with an ohm meter from the black at the bulb plug to battery negative. Should be less than 1 ohm It could be an issue in either the dash pcb or the RLU or a dirty switch. The 83 is a little different than my 88 so I can't help with where things are hiding. -
Just let me know what you two decide and I'll see if I can work it into my trip.
-
Be careful with bleach. Bleach will dissolve stainless steel whether it be fasteners, pipe fittings or sheet metal.
-
That is correct. Pink to 86 Fused power to 85. The horn switch is providing the path to ground.

The signal to start the timer can come from any circuit that goes hot with the key in run. If you do connect to the headlight circuit then you can keep the HID off by having the HI / LO selector in the position that the relay is not connected to. But that still requires that you remember to turn it on in the daytime. Jeff, I will be coming down 41 and be in that area late Monday afternoon on my way home from the UP. There is no internet, or telephone, land line or cell, where I will be in the UP. Just trees and critters and peace and quiet. If you think that later on Monday would be a possibility let me know, I can then call you once I get closer to civilization.
