Got a pearl red bagger, no tour pack, and she looks great. Will post more pictures tomorrow Guess is you read all the posts you can get lucky sometimes. Thanks Again!
  4. CORRECTION to last post...the Econo lodge is to the RIGHT not left!
  5. Randy, I have run this section numerous times and you should have no issues if you fuel up and water up before you head out of Salt Lake. Depending on how far you want to ride each day there are plenty of places for fuel, food and motels all across Wyoming. There's an Econo-Lodge I've stayed at in east Evanston WY off 80 and Bear River Dr if you want a place to stay before heading down into Salt Lake. Exit then go left for about 1-1/2 miles. (Don't eat at the Mexican restaurant thou--Real Bad Food) After you fuel in Evanston you can run all the way through the Salt Lake city area but before you actually head across the salt flats/desert area, there is food and "last gas" at the Clinton Landing / Hardy Rd exit. This is only about a 100 mile ride from Evanston. Once you leave this stop it starts to get real warmer and the next gas is in Wendover on the Utah/Nevada border, roughly 110 miles west on 80. As someone mentioned before you might want to do this section early so you have cooler weather and less sun to deal with. Be aware that trucks and cars run 80+ MPH across this area of I-80 and there can also be some strong cross winds at times. There are a couple of places across this stretch where you can stop but, if you pass one it will be a while before you have another safe place to pull over. Wendover has plenty of places to stop for the night, motels and casinos. From there its another 100 miles or so to Elko, NV. From Elko gas and food is about every 100 miles or so. Its an easy ride thru Winnemucca, Lovelock, Fernley, then into Reno so unless you are getting real bad gas mileage no need to take extra unless you just want to have the reserve. Hope this helps.
  6. They are the stock seats that came off I think a 2008 RSV. The guy I purchased them from wasn't sure if the RSV these came off of was an 08 or 09 but either way they are nice and are much more comfortable than the original 99 seats.
  7. Finely, After looking for what seemed to be forever I finely found a set of replacement seats for my 99 RSV. They arrived today and I've already installed them so I can ride later today to test out the rider seat comfort. If this one rides anything like the one my riding buddy let me try out it will be a great change. These are in great shape and got them for a ridiculously good price. Now I'll be ready for even longer rides and maybe even do an Iron Butt or two this year.
  8. If you can fit it into your ride you have to ride the Chief Joseph Hwy out of Cody WY. Hwy 120 to 296 then into Yellowstone. From there head into the Tetons to Jackson Hole WY. then you can head south and go into the mountains around Logan Utah then south to Salt Lake. Makes for a real nice ride until you get into the salt flats and desert heading to Reno where it is a bit warmer. Once you leave Reno head toward Carson City on Hwy 395 then up to Lake Tahoe on Hwy 50. If you stay on 50 it will take you right into Sacramento and for the majority of the ride it is in mountains and a great ride. If I am here when you ride through give me a call and I will meet up with you. Also, if you take I-80 from Reno you are welcome to swing by and we'll do the service on the bike. Have Fun and Ride Safe!
  9. Finely, Some Validation.
  10. Has a similar issue with my fog/driving lights. Found the plug has a bad wire connection at the terminal lug that was intermittent causing the light to go on and off, mostly off. Replaced it and no more issues Check the plug with a VOM or test light but wiggle it as you are testing. Most parts stores should had a replacement plug if that's the issue.
  11. Don't know what year you need but here are a couple of eBay item numbers for NIB OEM passing light mounting bars. 400881519165 171019167775
  12. Congratulations!. Has to feel great getting that payment over with.
  13. My experience so far with tires: Was doing some regular maintenance today and found the rear D-404 I had to put on in Atlanta is now at the ware bars with only 4800 miles on it. I put a new set of Metzler 880's on just prior to taking my coast to coast ride in August but had to replace rear tire once again in Atlanta when the 880 started to separate at the core. The Yamaha dealer in Atlanta only had a Dunlop 404 in stock which, I had used before and wanted to get away from using again but had little options at the time. I've used the D404 twice before and never been able to get more than 5000 miles out of either of them. The front tire, also Metzler 880, was put on the same time as the rear Metzler (both before starting my trip) and now has over 12000 mile on it and still has a fair amount of tread left. Anyway, I decided to make another change to try and find a rear tire that would last more than 5000 miles. I started my search by reading RedRider's post about his D404 experience along with what everyone else liked and disliked about tire choices. It seemed to me the Dunlop Elite series was favored a little more by the majority. I went on line looking for the Dunlop Elite-3 but during my search found an Elite-II on sale from Motorcycle Superstore for $100.00 which included free 2 day shipping. Since some of the posts stated the E-II tires were great and GeorgS had the casing cutaway information listed, I thought I would try this since the price was so good. Will see how this one works out and update in about 6000 miles . Thanks to everyone who posted their tire experiences. It made my decision a bit easier since price is never a factor when it comes to tires but, getting a good deal as well sure didn't hurt.
  14. The only thing better than working on a bike with good friends is riding with them. Get well and Ride Safe!
  15. What the ad said: Runs good but i probably would recommend a tune up. Is been as no op for a while. Lost the title but i will write a bill of sale. The Truth: Use to run but can't get it started now. Not road worthy, can't get a title because it may be stolen, has bad tires, dead battery. Got it from a guy who got a great deal from a friend of his that really needed bail money for stealing it in the first place
  16. I'm starting to understand the situation a little better. It might have been the Brunswick stew. The only place I found to get somewhat descent BWS is at Williamson Bros in Douglasville Hope you never experience that drop again.
  17. Sorry about the feet
  18. My buddy and I saw one a few years ago on a Honda while riding the Dragon. We both thought it was a mistake until we got near Deals Gap and as the bike slowed outriggers came out from each side as he slowed and came to a stop. The rider reached over to one side of the bike and grabbed his crutches. He had braces on both legs but could ride like the wind. We were impressed.
  19. That is Scary! My wife has been diabetic for 10 years now and had to start using insulin injections about 4 years ago. When her numbers go below 70 she starts to feel "weird" or "strange" as she puts it. She knows then that she needs to get protein, carb's, or some sugar into her system quickly. We had a bad scare last month where she accidently took to much insulin and spent 7 hours in the ER to get her numbers back to normal, she bottomed at 44mg/dl and was quickly approaching "coma range". You have to take this seriously and remember to EAT some type of protein all during the day to help stabilize you sugar level. Levels below 70 can quickly become serious as the lower they go the more likely you can become disoriented and unable to think clearly. When blood sugar levels fall below 70 mg/dl, a person may experience some of the following: trembling, intense hunger, nervousness, jitters, rapid heartbeat, cold, sweats and tingling in the fingertips or lips. ALWAYS carry a some form of sugar and protein with you, candy bars, Coke, jerky, trail mix, sugar packs etc. and not just when you ride. Put them in your cars glove box and have them readily available at home. These can save your life. Most important: Get with a good doctor/internist that specializes in diabetes and have them do a complete workup including an A1C test. Here are a couple links for site that can help answer some questions you may have about you levels, low or high. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/patientinstructions/000085.htm Read more : http://www.ehow.com/facts_4962512_signs-low-blood-sugar-levels.html
  20. Cut mine down early last year but I didn't like the added buffering on longer rides so I picked up a Show Chrome 13" windshield before by trip last year and love it. (specs below) I like the wider and shorter look and is comfortable riding with it in most weather conditions. These run from $100 to 125.00 average and come in clear and smoke tint. This stylish clear windshield for the Yamaha Royal Star Venture is 2-1/2" wider per side and 4" shorter than stock OEM windshields. A windshield height of 13" gives it a lower profile for a “sporty” look. Manufactured from 3/16" thick transparent Lucite DOT approved acrylic. Made in USA. •4" Shorter (13" tall installed height), •2 1/2" Wider •3/16" Lucite DOT Acrylic Also available in smoke tint. Fits Yamaha Royal Star Venture - all model years Part number 20-610 by Show Chrome.
  21. I would head north through the sierras and the Mt Shasta area then cut across to the Chief Joseph highway in Wyoming, then ride back into Yellowstone then west to the coast and home, if I have enough cash left.

    Hot feet

Welcome Dan, As slowrollwv mentioned a good set of highway pegs is the best way to keep cooler in the summer. Not just the feet but also up the pant legs. I installed a set on my RSV right after getting it and have ridden across the Nevada and Utah deserts in the summer but thought it's HOT it wasn't bad on my feet. Another good idea if you don't already have them is a good pair of riding boots. They will help the feet stay cooler much better than sneakers.
