  1. According to the service manual, the stock fuel pump is a Mitsubishi 4NK with an outlet pressure of 15~20 kPa = 2.2~2.9 PSI. The Facet 40178 is rated for a max of 3.5 PSI, min of 2.0. This is the one that I used. I took a 1500 mile trip to the Black Hills with it a couple of weeks ago with no issues which included 200 miles of 75-85 MPH interstate.
  2. Not mine. My son traded in his 2012 HD V-rod for a new 2017 Indian Chieftain Limited. Bike has all the bells and whistles, display screen and GPS. It was 97° here in Denver yesterday. He took it on a 30 mile test ride (I was on my RSTD) through our favorite twisties and on the highway. He said that it was no hotter than the HD. I felt the engine as soon as he shut it off and it did not seem excessively hot at all. Hope he's happy with it. It helped that Indian is offering a $1,500.00 rebate until 6/30/17 to sweeten the deal.
  3. Replaced the stock pump with the Facet 40178. I drilled and tapped an 8-32 screw to mount, isolated with rubber on back. Screw is located behind the flare nut. As an FYI, NAPA carries this pump under their part number BK 610-2403. Took it for a 50 mile test Saturday and bike ran fine. On my arrival home, I immediately pulled the side cover and the pump was cool to the touch. On a side note, I have a Koso digital volt meter. With the Garmin 550 and XM radio on, I always ran a consistent 13.9 VDC. With the new fuel pump, I am at a consistent 14.0 VDC.
  4. '06 RSTD, 45K. Took a 1,700 mile trip through New Mexico week before last, bike ran great. Did not start it for a week. Last Saturday started and ran fine for a short trip. Last Sunday started fined, but soon died. I took the cover off of the fuel pump contacts and manipulated contacts with my finger and it started pumping. These contacts look fine to me. I ran the engine for no more than two minutes while manipulating the contacts. During this short run time, the pump became so hot that you could not touch it so I don't think a set of contacts is the answer. Think that I will go with the Facet pump. Both the 40171 and 40178 have the check valve and positive shut off and both are rated at 15 GPH @ 2.0-3.5 PSI. Does anyone know if it matters which one?
  5. The trees fared much better than I would have expected.
  6. I carry this https://shop.antigravitybatteries.com/products/micro-starts/sport/ in my service truck on a daily basis and in the bike when I'm on it. Cheap insurance as far as I'm concerned. Will jump your battery or charge your cell phone.
  7. Canon City Skyline Dr. While you are in Canon City, I suggest that you make the short trip over Skyline Dr. http://royalgorgebridge.com/tag/skyline-drive/
  8. There is no problem so great that drinking can't make worse.
  9. This is the one that my son got. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?124577-On-my-wishlist-(non-motorcycle)&highlight=drone It has built-in GPS and a "Go Home" button. When you press it, it lands in the exact spot that it took off from with no further operator assistance required.
  10. My son bought one to use for work. He's in the cell phone tower business. Many of the new low power sites need line of sight. He can see what the antenna sees with the drone. His iphone attaches to the controller and he sees what the drone sees. Can also take pictures directly to the phone. Of course to him, it was just another video game.
  11. And then they pull this kind of crap: CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. - A Cherokee County couple says a con artist called SWAT on them when they refused to fall for his scam. It happened Monday afternoon in Canton. The victims say the scammer claimed to be with the IRS and demanded $2,600. When they refused, he said he would call police on them. When they hung up, that’s exactly what he did, claiming there was an active shooter inside the victims’ home. “I mean, it could've been a totally different scenario, and believe me, it's frightening,” said the homeowner, who did not want to be identified. He says he’s still worried that if a vindictive scam artist went so far as to do that, he could do something else. “It's horrifying to know that you can be in your own house, and something like that can happen over a scam,” he told Channel 2's Richard Elliot. In 911 calls, you can hear the alleged scammer telling the dispatcher he’s the victim’s son and that there was an active shooter in the house. “Yes, right now. That’s why I call. It’s very urgent,” the man says. Cherokee County deputies, with their guns drawn, surrounded the house as the 911 operator tried to get more information. “I have more than one or two officers. I've got about five officers outside of your house, and I need you to step out the door,” she said to the man. © 2016 Cox Media Group.  The homeowner says deputies spotted his wife out back and quickly realized it was all a hoax. Deputies say it’s a dangerous situation for law enforcement and citizens. “Their adrenaline is flowing pretty hard, and you just don't know what's going to happen so it's very dangerous,” Lt. Jay Baker said. Investigators believe the call may have come from somewhere inside India so they admit that there's very little, if anything, they can do. “I just hope there’s some way to put a stop to it before some innocent people get hurt,” the homeowner said. © 2016 Cox Media Group.
  12. Theodore Roosevelt’s ideas on immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907. “In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.” Theodore Roosevelt 1907
  13. I have this. Works well. http://www.motorcyclereararmrest.com/ The nice thing is, for solo rides the backrest, armrest and luggage rack all come off together.
  14. About 65° at 10,000 Feet. Perfect day to skip work and view the Aspens.
  15. I've often wondered about the logic to switch as much lighting as possible to LEDs to conserve watts. Unless the new found power is used regularly, it is just converted to heat.
  16. Mark, The question is, what is the battery voltage while cranking the starter? You may have a bad cell in your battery. Will show normal voltage until you put a load on it.
  17. The biggest problem is that they vote and they breed.
  18. The "highest" point in the Great Smoky "Mountains" is only about a 1,000 feet higher than Denver (the mile high city - more ways than one now). As stated before, more than one 12,000'+ pass out here in the West. I have friends with a 103 HD Ultra. They can't believe the power from that little V4 - even pulling a trailer no problems.
  19. They are in the process of trying to get it changed to allow remote starts since you can't drive away without the key. But the enviros are still upset that it causes pollution.
  20. The AMA offers a discount for Federal Transport. http://www.funtransport.com/ I have no experience with them.
  21. To add insult to injury, in Denver you would have also gotten a ticket for "Puffing". Leaving a vehicle running unattended.
